my son's pc has become infected with the Home Search Assistant malware and it needs to be removed and i don't know how to do that for sure, although i've found some stuff through google...

in addition to removing the damned thing, i'm wondering how to keep such things off his pc...

will win patrol stop Home Search Assistant and cool web search and the like from installing in the first place?

is there some better way to keep these things out?

it's not important, but i wonder why that one pc gets all the troubles and the other 4 computers on our home network do not...

two of the pc's download a lot of music, but only one gets these search bar parasites...

I can't say for sure if WinPatrol will stop you from getting this again, but I think it will.

AdAwareSE will get rid of it though... www.lavasoft.com

You could try Spywareblaster to stop from getting it.

Home search assistant is one of, if not the worst malware, I have ever seen. I believe the only true way to rid yourself of it is to reformat. You can fight it, but you will always see remnants of this thing from time ot time (crashes etc.)

That is what I did. That is one hardcore piece of sh+t.

The best way to get rid of that stuff is to reformat and install a Unix based OS. Problem solved permanently. :)

I have always found runing spybot and adaware in safe mode does the trick

Running Spybot S&D and AdAware in Safe Mode will get rid of it pretty much completely.

Using BOTH of Spybot's resident protectors (the main one is on by default, you have to ENABLE Tea Timer) and WinPatrol will keep you from ever getting it again.

I have some addition options if you were unable to remove the malware from what has been suggested.

:banghead: VX2 and I can't get it off :banghead:i remember seeing that in either adaware se or spybot, but i can't remember where exactly...

but it sounded like it was specifically designed to get rid of vx2, whatever that is...

it was one of those advanced settings or an add-on or something...

edit: yeah, i found it, it's an add-on that you download for adaware se and install, then you run it from the add-ons screen...

I need help.
Everytime my wife tries to google.com on her desktop to do a search, an info bar comes up and an ad for SpyBouncer pops.

And this pop up add won't allow her to access google, and do a search.
