Computer ???????

I have a COMPAQ LAP-TOP and if i shut it down and try to re-start it it wont turn on for about 3 or more days, i have put in a good battery from a friends that has the same one.
I cant use it away from the AC-POWER a friend said it might be 1 of 2 things.
1-Voltage convertor board
2-Mother Board

Today the power went out and i powered it up and it started right up but on the screen it said "102- BATTERY CHARGE FAILED"
Any help would be great.

I thought that at 1st but i took my battery out and put in my brother in-laws battery from his lap-top which is good and it still didnt work for me, But as i have powered it off with the power hooked up twice and it fires back up which it used to take 5 or more days before it would before.
And as i said before at power up it displayed a message that said 103-BATTERY CHARGE FAILED, If it was my battery it should of fired up with his.
