Damnit Szott!!!

Honestly, I believe that 1990 team was one of our best teams of the Carl and Marty years. Deberg was on fire that year. Stephon Paige had a career year, DT in his prime. We had a great D except for that Oilers game.

I'll always remember Szott for that. BTW, that happened on 1st down.

What is this holding on Szott nonsense about?

1990 playoffs. We were playing in Miami in the wild card game. We were down 17-16 with under a minute left. KC had 1st and 10 from the Miami 28 and we were running out the clock to set up for a game winning FG. On 1st down, Okoye runs for 11 yards, but Szott gets called for holding, which puts the ball back at the 38 yard line. We only get 3 more yards and Lowery misses a 52 yard FG with about 30 seconds left just under the crossbar. We had that game in the bag until that holding call.

Nah, the horrible part is that it was a phantom holding call. We got hosed then as bad as when the refs didn't call the second Gonzalez TD in the '97 playoffs against the Broncos. :shake:

Ugh, that is f*cking horrible.

That was the first of many times watching a Chiefs game that I truly wanted to put my foot through the damn TV. There were other Chief screw ups before then, but that kind of behavior was expected of us in the 80's. Damn that game. We blew a 16-3 lead in the 4th quarter, too.

That holding call was as bogus as that holding call on Manusky on the FG attempt early in that 97 game against Denver.

Agreed.

That 1990 team was very, very good. It's too bad that Paige's career was cut short by injury. The guy was a top notch WR(and an undrafted FA if I recall).

The season rested on Steve DeBerg's broken thumb. He came back the next year with the offense sputtering and he was soon replaced.

Since I was too young to remember the '69 season, that 1990 group ranks as my favorite Chiefs team of all-time. But the losses from that season really stick out. The Monday Night classic at Denver. Derrick's 7 sack game. Warren Moon's career day. And on my 21st birthday, I drove to Indy to see them play the Colts, and they somehow let freakin' Jack Trudeau beat 'em. And then, of course, the playoff disaster in Miami. Our whole defense was pro-bowl quality that year, and our offense featured career years by DeBerg, Word, and Paige. The defensive coaching staff included Cowher and Dungy. That team should've been in the Super Bowl.

On a side note, I don't know if you can look this up anywhere, but I believe that the referee for both the 1990 playoff loss at Miami and the 1997 playoff loss at home against Denver was Jerry Markbreit. Coincidence?

For some reason I thought that holding call was on Grunny. *shrug*

I still think the worst crap ever to happen against the Chiefs was the 'foreign substance' fiasco in the 97 playoff game against the Donkeys.

No ejections, no penalties, hell, Denver wasn't even charged a time out. They just stopped the game, walked the Denver Oline to the sideline, wiped 'em off, and started the game as though nothing had happened.

Gawd, I remember that. I was young too. Had a bunch of peeps over at my townhouse that day and we all had been drinking all day long, starting around 9AM. I had an argument with my father that morning and felt absolutely horrible about the way I talked to him. But, I figured a Chiefs win would make it all better.

As soon as Lowry kicked it, I thought it was good and starting screaming and jumping up and down in complete utter joy. When I realized I was the only drunken idiot dancing around, I looked at the TV to see that he had missed it. My heart sunk faster that a ton of bricks. I stood there motionless for the longest time. Everyone went out to the bars after that, but I stayed behind as I was way too drunk and depressed. It was a terrible day.

I do truly believe that team was one of Martys best during his time here in KC. If they had beaten Miami, I believe they would have had to travel to Buffalo the next week though. I highly doubt they would have won that game. But its nice to dream.......sigh...

Agreed. He was a great reciever. Anyone remember his 300 yard recieving game in like 1988 I beleive?? I doubt many people remember it because our team was crap in those years. If I remember right, both Blackledge and Kenney both QB'd that game?

That game was actually back in the 85 season finale against San Diego. I think Bill Kenney had like 337 passing yards and 309 of them were to Paige. I don't remember Blackledge playing that game, but maybe he did.

Cox DVR. Motorola DCT something something. It works pretty good...my favorite part, DUAL TUNER! You can record a show/watch another show,or record 2 shows at once.

That holding call if I remember correctly was the first holding call of the game on either team . Man that sure brought back memories of Derrick Thomas , what a defense . Then the thing about Willie Lanier , man I miss those defenses .
