You know Denver wanted that... if Warfield gets tapped for a 4 game suspension, Shanahan brought his kneepads to the scheduling meeting.

But then again, by week three, their entire defensive line might be in the infirmary or county lockdown.

Hercules Rockefell

AS was on Denver radio this morning, he only mentioned 3 Bronco games, but that was one of them.

The other is that Denver will be in Dallas on Thanksgiving, wasn't there a KC article the other day that said the Chiefs thought they would get it?

and Oakland at Denver on Christmas Eve.

Guess just a few more hours to see if he's right or not.

Someone explain to me how the phuck we have to play Denver in Denver on Monday night?

Denver went to the playoffs, therefore, their schedule is supposed to be more difficult than ours- which means, that the Monday night game should be in fuggen KC. And, what's with this BS that we have to play them so damn early again in Denver?

Once again- KC gets fugged by the schedule....

There is no logic whatsoever to your post. All teams in the same division have 14 identical games out of the 16. The 2 are easier or harder based on where you finished in your division.

NONE of this has anything to do with home games, or MNF.

I dont see the big deal.

The big deal is, Sherlock- that Monday night football is a nationally televised game. It generates excitement in the players, the coaches, and the fans- particularly those teams who are playing at home- and the home team has a better chance at winning the home game, then the visiting team does. It has greater significance than a regular home game.

Bob Dole

6 nationally televised games and only one of them at home...

Amnorix
04-13-2005, 12:03 PM
Your schedule to me:

1. Tough to start. 3 out of the first 4 teams are rock solid.

2. Bye week follows. Not bad timing, but not great. You could be as bad as 1-3, and the bye will give you time to collect. OTOH, teams tend to prefer their bye in the middle or late, to recover from injuries, etc.

3. Next 4 games are much, much softer. After 8 weeks, you should have a pretty decent idea where you're at. I'm figuring you guys will be 4-4, +/- a game. If you're much better than 4-4 at that point, you clearly have a serious playoff contender.

4. The next 4 games probably decide your season. Bills, Texans, Patriots, Broncos are mostly non-division games, but if you can go 3-1 against that slate, you're going to be very well postiioned for the playoffs. If you go 1-3, you'll be hurting.

5. The last 4 games, Cowboys, Giatns, Chargers, Bengals, gives you a chance to recover from your challenging schedule so far. You should go at least 2-2, mebbe 3-1 against this slate. That could give you momentum heading into the playoffs.

Note to all: never complain about your schedule. ALL NFL schedules are tough. ALL fans complain about their schedules as being tougher than somebody else's. NOBODY sees their schedule as easy when the schedule comes out. All you're doing is whining.

Well I am excited at the idea of going into Denver and beating them on Monday night. Sounds like a fun exciting game in another teams house. How this schedule is that bad compared to other schedules around the leagues is beyond me. It is the freakin NFL.

It's 1/16th of the schedule. It doesn't count double. You're SUPPOSED to lose to good teams in their house. If you split with Dungver and the Chargers, sweep the Raiders, and go 7-3 against your NFC and other AFC opponents, then you're at 11-5 and in the playoffs.

Don't whine about the schedule unless you have something TRULY extraordinary going on. Like a road Sunday game followed by a road Thanksgiving game. THAT is unfair and brutal, and I think the Colts had this last year (and they crushed their opposition anyway).

Anything else is much ado about nothing.

You're right. I go to both games each year, and I got the two switched. Either way, I'm at a Dec game against the Donkeys every year. I only get to a certain umber of games, and the Broncos are always two of them. It sucks having a guaranteed Dec game every year.

And what is even better is they, up until this year, had a hard time selling out their home games to lift the blackout.... :hmmm:

Look, you and I both know that Priest Holmes is a better team player, a ridiculously and fantastically talented player, and the key to one of the best offenses in NFL history, which is what the Chiefs have right now.

I think your average Oakland citizen isn't THAT big a sports fan. It's the Left Coast, and they're probably all too busy going on hikes or something... The Raiders have their fanatical following, but the Athletics and Raiders both can't seem to get a really good gate even when their teams are pretty good. When the teams suck, the fans quickly and easily find something else to do.

We got the highest scoring offense and most exciting, best tight end, best running back nd we can't get 1 Prime Time show here?

That is CRAP!

I will admit I'm surprised that you don't have any prime time appearances.

CosmicPal

Yes...you are right. I've had my cheese with my wine now, thank you.

I just look at the fact that when you are in the playoffs one year- you are given a difficult schedule while the non-playoff teams get the least difficult schedules. Therefore, playoff teams should be on the road, and non-playoff teams should be at home when they face each other.

The fact of the matter is- the Chiefs have every bit of talent and jest to go into Denver and beat them, and I would absolutely love the idea of that happening- particularly since I reside in Denver. That would be an absolute joyous occasion for me to be around a bunch of donk fans and watching them weep at an embarrassing loss to KC on their home turf in front of millions. But, I just think the tables should have been turned, and the game should have been in KC. But, that's just me....

Anyways, it really doesn't matter where and when you play- it's all in how you play that matters.

I just look at the fact that when you are in the playoffs one year- you are given a difficult schedule while the non-playoff teams get the least difficult schedules. Therefore, playoff teams should be on the road, and non-playoff teams should be at home when they face each other.

Denver and the Chiefs will play against each other 2x per year, once in each other's house, for the rest of eternity. Doesn't matter who does/doesn't make the playoffs...

Also, think about what you're saying -- it's logistically impossible. There's 32 teams in the NFL, and only 12 of them make the playoffs at the end of the year. The playoff teams can't ALWAYS play non-playoff teams as an away game -- they wouldn't have 8 home games left to play.

The NFL schedule is beautifully simple, logical and set in stone with only 2 games per year in doubt. You can see most of the teams you're playing against through 2009 if you look on the web.

Amnorix,
I understand what you're trying to say about how the schedule is pretty much set by a formula. But that doesn't take into account which games will be nationally televised and/or prime time. I would like to see a MNF game or at least a SNF at Arrowhead. We all know it's one of the best venues in the NFL and Chiefs fans know how to support their team. That is really the only thing I have a problem with in regards to this schedule. Aw well. Maybe DV can use the disrespect card to fire his team up this year. :)

I will note, although I never recommend bitching about the schedule, that getting the AFC East this year is no prize. I expect the Patriots, Jets and Bills to all be at 10+ wins, and the Dolphins should be better than last year.

And, of course, being in the AFC is a disadvantage compared to being in the powder-puff pathetic NFC.

That problem, however, is one the entire AFC West will need to deal with.

If indeed the AFC East is as good as it appears it might be, then this would be the AFC West at a disadvantage for (1) bye week playoff considerations, and (2) getting a wild card berth.

Figure a good AFC West team can/should be looking at making the playoffs like this:

4-2 within the division
2-2 against the AFC East
3-1 against the NFC East
2-0 against the AFC South/North teams you're up against

That gets you to 11-5, and an almost definite playoff berth.

(obviously, I'm overanalyzing, but you see what I mean).

You're right that, based on our record, we don't deserve to host a Sunday or Monday night game.

But I'd accept that reasoning more if I didn't see games like the Oct. 2 San Fran at Arizona, Oct. 9 Cinci at Jacksonville, Nov. 20 us at Houston and Dec. 18 Atlanta at Chicago. Remember it is not who you play it is when you play them that matters.

We have no idea how the teams will shake out right now and some teams may have some major injuries in preseason or early in the season that could destroy their season.

Agreed on all counts.

Between the rabid fans and the high powered offense full of high profile players like Gonzalez, Holmes and Green, plus the well-known DV, I am surprised you didn't have a bit more high profile exposure and a home prime time game.

edit: Plus you have some really good teams coming into Arrowhead, which would've improved your odds of hosting a prime time game, I would've thunk.

I like our schedule. The two games at home to finish the season is what I really like. I'll take some tough games at the beginning of the season because some teams aren't ready that early, and you can always rebound. The schedule does look brutal to start.........but that is based on how teams looked lAST year....

Oakland has to start AT NE....
The Donks have 2 division games in the first 3 weeks...Sandy Eggo and KC.

No one knows 'how tough' this schedule is until teams start playing on sundays........We'll know more about week 2 how the schedule looks, and its no given then.

beating the Donks Early in their House, on Monday Night would be Fargin AWESOME!. Instead of crying like a bunch of beaten, burka wearing denises.......Think about how COOL it will be to hang 45 on Denver, in denver, on MNF.

Playing Moss, Porter, TO and co, in the first 3 weeks is going to be a very good test for the secondary.............AND before they've had a chance to get all the dings that come along with a season.

games against the Pats, Eagles and Co, are going to be national games if the Chiefs put up a fight this year.

Everybody needs to chill about the schedule.

Remember it is not who you play it is when you play them that matters.

We have no idea how the teams will shake out right now and some teams may have some major injuries in preseason or early in the season that could destroy their season.

For the most part, I'm cool with our schedule. I do however see a couple of problem areas. Number 1 if Warfield is suspended, playing all of those divisional road games early could seal our fate before it ever begins to take shape. Number 2 the balancing of home/road games sucks ass. All the way around, 1 at home 2 on the road 1 at home 2 on the road. That's bullsh*t and while I know they've done away for the most part with the strength of schedule, the balancing of our schedule and our toughest games appear (granted appear means sh*t until we find out who's who) to be at the start of the season. It's cool though, if we can get the defense holding teams to under 24, we're the division winner. I just would've liked to see some "easier" games up front to help this squad build that confidence back up. Eh, what are you gonna do?

It doesn't bother me at all that we don't have any prime-time home games.

But 3 prime-time games on the road? Jeez, the home field advantage is magnified about 10x for those Sunday and Monday nighter's.

We'll need to play those games the way we played at Balt. last year.

There should be a rule that if you are chosen to play a night game, you play as many on the road as at home. So if you're good enough to make prime-time, you either get two night games or four.

I think it's a little unfair to make our 1st two AFCW games back to back Nationally televised 'Night' games. Important games for us and they make the venues as tough as possible. I also think it would have been nice to put our Christmas Eve game on the road since we got to/had to play on Christmas last year. Give us fans a break :)

Build a new stadium, and you will likely get a Super Bowl in your city and more prime-time exposure.

If you have an older stadium that's not bringing in the revenue, your city can fug off. KC voted down Bi-State, and voila, the prime-time scoreboard reads KC - 0, Opponents - 3.

There's gonna be tough stretches on the schedule, we knew that coming in. I would have to say I'm surprised we got our three road divisional games in the first 7 games, pretty tough. The flipside to that obviously is our three home divisional games come last, as long as we don't totally shoot ourselves in the foot early on we'll have a chance to finish strong in the division.

I really don't think the Chiefs deserve any Monday night games and I am glad just to get one even if it is at Denver. The Cowboys will always get some Monday night games because they are the Cowboys.

The Chiefs were a 7-9 team last year so I don't understand why everyone feels entitled to a Monday night game just because Arrowhead is the best venue in the NFL. The Chiefs were a bad team last year, they shouldn't have been but they were.

The League loves offense. When the Chiefs play you usually see lots of offense on both sides of the ball. Whether or not they are a bad team is immaterial. The league seems to think that more people will watch a 45-42 game between mediocre teams than a 13-10 game between the Pats and Ravens.

I agree that the Chiefs are as deserving as the Cowboys don't get me wrong on that. The NFL knows that if they throw Dallas and Parcells out there, no matter how bad they are, most fans will watch. People will watch either to cheer for or root against the Cowboys.

I mean look at the bright side. The Chiefs get to knock off the Raiders and Broncos on the road in back-to-back weekends in Primetime. The whole nation will witness the rise of the Chiefs and Gunther's defense. After that it is smooth sailing.
