I don't think we should expend our energy in that direction. We added 11 players via draft picks counting Hall and Surtain. We have upgraded our roster tremendously and now the goal should be to get these guys on the same page. Our coaches don't need to be wasting time watching a bunch of undrafted players but instead they should be getting LBs Bell and Johnson, secondary players Surtain and Knight and DE Carlos Hall all on the same page. They need to be doing everything in their power to get DJ ready to open the season. He needs to be taught hard at every opportunity.

Priest Holmes was an undrafted free agent. I'm sure there are others; besides what do you care, it is not your money.

I pretty much agree. I also think Battle and Bartee should be told they are moving back to safety pronto. We had 5 CB's oon our roster last season. Warfield, Bartee, McCleon, Battle, and Sapp. The 5 this season should be Surtain, Warfield, Sapp, Hodge, and McCleon (?).

Let Battle and Bartee enter the contest with Warfield and Woods to see who starts along side Knight.

I knew "but what about Holmes" would be the 1st response. It's not the money it's the time investment.

I think McCleon isn't a terrible $.05 and yeah Battle should be given a shot at FS but IMO Bartee is ruined and just needs to go. He's burnt so much that his brain has to be fried. Kinda like missing short putts in golf. Once you miss so many you become jaded by it.

I assume you meant Wesley and Woods?

I do not agree in ignoring UdFA. At the very least you should fill up with as many potential bodies the NFL allows in TC, fodder guys. And invariable, 1 or 2 will make just about any NFL roster.

DJ did not go to school second semester so he is ready to do the mini camp and put all his time into being a bad a$$. I really think some of the other guys on the team will step it up now that there is competition.

I think it would be pretty silly not to continue looking for players that fit into plans for the future.

Was already brought up yesterday that DB prospect Brandon Browner went undrafted, after being pretty highly ranked for quite a while. Obviously something goin on with him, heard he turned in a very dissappointing and slow 40 time. But seriously, pretty productive DB in college, often went in 2nd/3rd rounds of many mock drafts, and there's an opportunity to convince him to join KC after the draft for very cheap? What can this hurt? Just might be a misunderstood or just simply slipped thru the cracks kind of player?

There may be one or two out there we might want to take a look at but taking a look takes time away from our coaches who have precious little time as it is to fit this D together.

Browner was signed by the hated, vile Donks. too late for Shazor too.

UFA's are not a luxury, they are a necessity. I think the Chiefs will bring in some additional O and D Linemen, a LB or two, a couple of WRs(Richard Smith back in camp?) and maybe another RB/FB.

They need BODIES in camp. Too much wear and tear on the Arms of the QBs if they only have 3-4, too much wear on the WRs if there aren't enough.......the Linemen get hurt and need the reps for the DLine etc.....

I look for a slug of UFAs later this week.......just like every team will do.

Huh? What's wrong with trying to find more talent? :hmmm:

I remember a certain UFA punter who signed with the Chiefs...he wasn't too bad. :p

what does it hurt to give a football player a chance to prove himself... I don't really care about the measureables after the 3rd round.. just get guys that are "football players!"

if they produced at a high level in college.. they should be given a chance...

Coogs gets confused by 'W's. I think he probably voted for Bush too. ;)

Chiefs have signed UDFA DT/OG Arrion Dixon Arkansas and some 215 lb CB named Helms.

There's a difference between tying up coaches and tying up scouts and administrators. Our coaches may give their opinions on who they want the FO to pursue, but other than that, it will be done by personell other than the coaches. Landing the undrafted players is for Thum and his minions.

They can land them but how do our coaches know if they can play without watching and coaching them in say the rookie mini camp this weekend? We've added like 15 plus players to the roster already this offseason. Maybe I should phrase it differently and say we shouldn't sign very many because we ain't got time to look at them. Have we even cut a player yet? I know we let a few walk but I don't think we've released any players who were under contract. I can't imagine that our roster isn't pretty full counting all the guys we have in NFLE. Let's get our #1 pick ready to make an impact and on the field for the opener. When was the last time that happened?

Phil,
I understand what you are saying, however, all teams bring in additional undrafted players. Our coaches will be able to review tape of every player. Some players , like Priest Holmes went undrafted. It's in our best interest to take a look at everybody. Believe me, we'll pay special attention, to our draftees.

Gause would be a nice pickup, if he's still out there.

Wouldn't mind seeing us pick up, say, Gino Giudugli to maybe compete with Kilian/Clausen/Huard in camp.

From the site linked by Wile_E:

DT~ARRION DIXON ~ ARKANSAS (signed Kansas City)

Arrion Dixon Grade: 3.1
Position: DT
Class: Sr
School: Arkansas
Conference: SEC
Ht., Wt.: 6-3.5, 290
40 Time: 5.18

Grading System

BIO: Three-year starter who posted 29/6.5/1.5 as a senior after a career high 64 tackles the prior season.

POSITIVES: Undersized tackle with possibilities as a three-technique lineman at the next level. Quickly gets off the ball with a nice first step, plays with excellent pad level and gets leverage on opponents. Fluid changing direction, effectively uses hand technique to stay off blocks and quick locating the ball.

NEGATIVES: Gets stood up at the line or handled by opposing tight ends. Easily knocked off his angle of attack and does not play with great balance.

ANALYSIS: More of an up-the-field run-stuffer, Dixon could be effectively used in a system that rotates its front four at the next level. Offers growth potential and should get consideration for a practice squad.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent
