Bengals | Hardy Could be June 1 Casualty - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 28 Apr 2005 11:15:32 -0700

Updating previous reports, Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals LB Kevin Hardy realizes time may be running out with the team after they selected two linebackers early in the NFL draft this year. "They don't draft guys in the first round to sit," Hardy said. "Until I'm told everything different, I'm continuing to come, work (and) get my body in shape for another new year." Hardy could be released after June 1 this year, which would save $1.7 million in cap space this year and $2.4 million next year.

Dont know a whole lot about him.

well Barber(health?),Fujita (health?) im sure Fujita is fine, Maz (done)... you can never have too many players at the LB position, unless most of them aren't that good..like the DB position

Isn't Hardy a MLB?

If so I think we should take a look. I'd feel better with him at the MLB position than Ka-WEAK-a.

Fujita will be healthy to start TC.

Doubtfull are "only" Mas,Barber

we don't need another 30+ LB.

Vet minimum, as insurance....to beat out Caver, Fox, or Scanlon....sure, why not. He's got some juice left....as long as we don't pencil him in as a starter.

No, he's a OLB.

Hardy is a SSLB. We could keep Bell in the middle if we signed him.

The problem is he's too old (32 in July). We need to keep our younger developmental players that we have invested in more than we need to sign an aging LB on the downslope of his career (DAL-02, 75 tackles in 15 starts, CIN-03, 91 tackles in 16 starts, CIN-04, 69 tackles in 14 starts).

I would rather Gunther spend more time developing Fox, Mitchell, Bell, Johnson, and Fujita than teaching Hardy our schemes. He's got enough work cut out for him this offseason. At least he has a head start with Fujita, Mitchell, and Fox.

I believe he has played inside both in college and at the pro level. He's always been a smart, field general type and he's listed at about 6'4" and 260 lbs by NFL.com., so I have little doubt he could handle MLB duties in Gunther's scheme. I wouldn't have a problem with adding a heady vet who's good in coverage to the middle of the D, giving Bell and DJ more freedom to be disruptive from the outside.

I think Boomer will end up at ROLB because he's so explosive like Bell and the former Chief Gun compares Bell to, Anthony Davis. Johnson is seen by Gunther as a challenger for Fujita's LOLB position as Fox was last year. It seems like there is a huge hole at MLB that a heady vet with a couple years left in his legs could fill nicely. I like Mitchell but I'd rather have a field general like Hardy between Bell and EJ.

Hardy's best years are far behind him. He is not better then anyone we have now that would play MLB. I think we would be much better served by saving our money to get another CB, DT, or WR.

Yeah, he really sucks compared to Maslowski and Mitchell. Hardy could outplay both of those guys in his sleep.

He certainly could.....if this were 1999. Hardy sucks now, he is not starting material at all anymore.

Mitchell
04, 75 tackles in 12 starts, did not play in one game.

Maslowski
03, 59 tackles in 10 starts
02, 123 tackles in 16 starts

02 Maz is the best of the group. 05 Mitchell will be better than 05 Maz and 05 Hardy. Hardy's legs are long gone.

I agree. If the Chiefs sign way-over-the-hill guys like Hardy, it's a sign of desperation. Hopefully, after the offseason they've had, they aren't that desperate anymore.
