This is from Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post via way of The Salina Journal. There is just a paragraph about the Chiefs within another article. I am just going to type the paragraph word for word...

By the numbers: Six, maybe seven. That's the number of new defensive starters the Kansas City Chiefs figure to have this season compared with the start of last season.

Here are our opening day starters from last season...

Defense
LE 98 E.Hicks
LT 90 R.Sims
NT 93 J.Browning
RE 99 V.Holliday
LOLB 51 S.Fujita
MLB 56 M.Beisel
ROLB 59 S.Barber
LCB 44 E.Warfield
RCB 22 D.McCleon
SS 25 G.Wesley
FS 21 J.Woods

...Myself, I hope their numbers are too low at 6 or 7. I would prefer 10 new starters from that bunch with only Warfield holding a spot.

Surtain, Johnson, Bell, Knight..?

I would guess Surtain, Bell, DJ, Knight, Allen, Dalton, and Mitchell would be the new "opening day" starters that is predicting.

ah...I was counting Allen/Dalton/Mitchell as starters already

Opening Day line-up to Opening Day line-up...

Allen, Dalton, and Mitchell would be my guess to complete the 7. I would also like to see Saivii and Wilkerson/Hall finish off the front 4, and Battle possibly move Wesley or Woods back to the bench as well.

Battle move Wesley or Woods ?

Wesley has 16 ints over the last 3 years thats pretty good even Knight has "only" 12.

Knight plays SS
Wesley moves to FS

I'd love to add Hicks at the very least to that list. Sims and Wesley would not bother me in the least either. Three years at the bottom of the heap. Time to get rid of the crap.

Battle move Wesley or Woods ?

To many 20+ yardage plays and 40+yardage plays both running and passing for me the last two years given up to think these jokers are legit top 10 defensive safties.

Hicks
Sims
Dalton
Allen

Fujita
Bell
Johnson

Surtain
Warfield
Knight
Woods/Wesly (this one will be close but technically, both were starting safeties last season so I wouldn't count either as new starters)

I wouldn't mind seeing Hicks spot being threatened, but DV will make sure he has a job.

All in all, with last week's moves, this has the makings of a top 10 D.

LE Hall; Gun loves him
LT Siavii; unmovable object
RT Sims; returns to college position
RE Allen; relentless
LLB Johnson; playmaker must be accounted for
MLB Mitchell; continues to respond to Gun's coaching
RLB Bell; explosive blitzer plays the Anthony Davis role
LCB Warfield; will be tested a lot
RCB Surtain; competence at CB at last
FS Woods; redidicated
SS Knight; strong leadership at strong safety

Eight new starters for the worst D in the league seems appropriate.

Ideally I'd like to see...

DE - Allen/Hall
DT - Sims/Siavii
OLB - Johnson/Barber or Fujita
MLB - Bell
CB - Surtain/Warfield
S - Knight/Wesley

But I think Woods, Mitchell, and Hicks will stay as starters.

Really if you look at it, if Wesley were to become the FS and Warfield would happen to move to RCB or just covering the #2 WR... it's possible to have only 2 guys starting the season as starters in the same exact position they were in at the beginning of last year.

I'm curious as to why so many people are leaving Fuji out but leaving Mitchell in of the starting rotation. Fuji was probably our best LB the entire season. Bell can play all LB positions and currently is our best MLB option.

I saw enough of Mitchel last year to want someone else besides him starting for a while.

I can't believe anyone thinks Hall will start at DE. Who starts is kind of irrelevant anyway. They will all get some time in the rotation.

By "start", I really mean get the majority of snaps. I think that Hall will outshine Hicks in camp and in the preseason.

How come not Fujita,I read that Dicky said he should be fine but no one is including him in any of these things. Is he going to be injured or are people saying he will lose his starting job??

DV and Gunther are saying that as of right now Mitchell will be starting at MLB and Bell at OLB. That would leave DJ and Fuj competing against each other for the last spot. Of course all this could change seeing as how we have only seen one day of rookie mini-camp.

They want Bell on the outside, because they think it will exploit his big play ability better, especially in regards to pass rushing.

They really ought to move Battle back to his natural position. He's not going to make the transition. For that matter if they would have left Warfield alone and let him remain a FS like he was at Nebraska he'd probably have been to a few Pro Bowls by now. I've never been able to comprehend Kansas Citys facination with trying to convert safetys to CB's when the players haven't played CB once in their football life. You watch... Battle will probably end up being cut and then snatched up by some other team who will put him back at Safety and excelling. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I wouldn't count out Fox or Siavii, or anybody else that we know virtually nothing about. They could come into camp and surprise.

It wouldn't take much to beat out the stiffs that played last year.

At least this isn't going to be the same craptastic defense we've been trotting out there year after year.

Well with the FA aquistions there will be a few players who are going to have to pick it up a notch or two or be sent packing.
