I'm not particularly interested. If we ran a 3-4 perhaps.

He must be about 40.

If memory serves me right, Keith Traylor was once a CHIEF before he defected to the donkeys. Didn't he start out as a big linebacker and the CHIEFS converted him.

Going to the pats was a pretty good gig for the guy. He plays there one year and gets a ring out of it!

Same thing could be said for Neil Smiths departure to Denver...

Hell yes we should be interested. Why not? We have Sims, Dalton, Siavii, Browning and a few others I can't think of. Do any of those names stand out at you? He wouldn't cost much and would provide depth if nothing else. Worse case we cut him after camp.

Now of course if the guy ballooned up in the offseason after picking up his ring, we might not.

Yes, I would be interested. Traylor is a big guy that stuffs the run, just the kind of guy we need. We need big guys to add depth to the DT positions, he would be good fit and would probably come cheap.

I'm frankly pretty surprised by this. He played well for us rotating at NG with Vince Wilfork. He had surprising upfield burst at times, and played solid as a 3-4 nose without ever having played at the position before (he was always a 4-3 guy).

IMHO he still has something left in the tank. Maybe it was a $$$ issue. I dunno.

Traylor is 36 years old.

I think he could be a good addition to the squad. We don't have any DT like him that can consistently stuff the run. Plus, he has played for KC in the past.

That being said, I don't think KC has any plans of bringing in another DLineman. Just a hunch.

Why not. I can't imagine he'd get that much in the open market. We could probably do worse.

Yeah, and it's also not a bad idea to have him some snaps on the 3-4, and also could provide some teaching/tips to Junior.

I'd give him a vet. minimun.

Yeah, if this was 1997.

The sound I've gotten on this is not that Traylor's play has declined but that they want to push the younger bodies. He may have another useful year in him. ..or he may not. But it's like you say, it's not as though we've got all these Pro Bowlers lined up on the defensive side of the ball. Give him a call... before Shanny does.

Yes, we had him back in like 1997 or so. We let him go to the Broncos, and then we picked up McGlockton to take his place. Big Mistake in hindsite.

I thought we got him from the broncos... He had a good year for us and then wanted money and went back to the broncos... Dont think we let him go...

You're both right, he started his career with the Broncos and he went to the Broncos for a 2nd time once he left KC.

I would really like to see us go after Traylor, he would add much needed DT depth and could be a great mentor for Siavii.

Good point, i wounldnt mind him coming back. IM sure Gunther is very familiar with what he can do as well since hes played for him before.

Quite frankly, the guy is a proven winner! I say bring him in & let's see what he can do...the Chiefs need help up the middle.

Old and busted.

Traylor was a very good DT here. Drafted as a LB...ate his way to defensive tackle. Good times.

How can he balloon up anymore? He must weigh330 lbs. No interest in him at all and I'm betting DV has no interest as well. He doesn't like it when a player's waist size approaches the number of people we can keep on the roster including the practice squad.

Neil Smith got all the attention, but Keith Traylor was hands down the better addition from KC during the 97 offseason. You guys should get the nod for turning his career around. He was a troublemaker who got booted out of Norman in college and was a thug in his early days here in the Mile High City.

That same year, Dan Williams went to KC after being an injury bust in Denver and broke out with a double digit sack season on the infamous 97 defense. He could have built on that year with more Pro Bowl caliber seasons but instead he became fat and happy and wanted his big payday.

But he's too old and washed up, NOW....no thanks.

I bet he could get more tackles than Ryan Sims did last year.

Its sad when you have a former 6th overall pick starting on your defensive line, and you say that about a 36 year old DT.

How? Need I say Ted Washington?

i wouldn't dismiss traylor completely

he would be a good short yardage run stuffer for us.

depends on what money/role he's looking for

we still don't know what we have in our defensive line

that said, i doubt Vermeil is interested ... he seems to want his defender to be "pretty".

we cannot add players to our 53 man roster without cutting others.
We "can" keep 4 DT's.

Traylor has to take one spot from either Browning Sims Siavii or Dalton.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

53 man roster isn't due for a long time

besides, i think we should move browning to LDE anyway

I would sign Traylor as a depth move. You never know with these DT's, ala Lional Dalton last year. Because Ryan Sims has been oh so special

from what I've seen, d.v. has about as much to do with this team's defense as I do, at least since the start of this offseason. I really think this is carl and gunthers side of the ball completely. If gun wants him, he will be productive - aguy like him could force donkey rb's outside to meet face to face with our new #1 draft pick. I would love to see him bump sims completely. The line would be like this perhaps. Hicks\Browning, Dalton\Sims, Traylor\Siavii, Allen\Hall. Or perhaps sims and siavii would flip flop, with browning rotating through all four positions. Stills in situationally.

With a 4.6 yards per carry average against KC last year, it would seem foolish not to give him a look.
