Happy Cinco de Mayo everybody. It's shaping up to be a great day for me. I get to deliver my machines to parties all over town, today right through the weekend. In fact--gotta run now.

Dude,

My wife is opening a pilates studio in downtown Los Angeles this week (so I've been involved, even though legally, I have nothing to do with this venture). I had to walk to get AA batteries for the wireless headset today and I SWEAR: I might as well have been in Mexico.

Two blocks from Staples Center. Three blocks from Nokia Live. Four blocks from mulit-million dollar condos. The entire street. All Mexican, every sign in Spanish, all the music - Mexican.

While I LOVE (and I do mean LOVE) the culture and food, what I witnessed today is absolutely unacceptable in 2008. The Latin culture from Mexico and English speaking Americans are setting the stage for an epic battle come 2020.

And our current "politicians" should make a pre-emptive strike and initiate a National Language Law.

Before it tears this country apart.

Cinco de Mayo is primarily a regional and not an obligatory federal holiday in Mexico. The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Although the Mexican army was victorious over the French at Puebla, the victory only delayed the French invasion of Mexico City; a year later, the French occupied Mexico.

A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day; Mexico's Independence Day is actually September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish), which is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

• According to a paper published by the UCLA Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture, the holiday, which has been celebrated in California continuously since 1863, is virtually ignored in Mexico.
• A sky-diving club near Vancouver in Canada holds a Cinco de Mayo skydiving event.
• In the Cayman Islands, in the Caribbean, there is an annual Cinco de Mayo air guitar competition.
• The island of Malta, in the Mediterranean, encourages revelers to drink Mexican beer on May 5th.

I'm sure he will, but with his b-day falling on 5/5 I expect he will go into overdrive. 19 years to save for bail. If anyone wants to contribute, I can set up a Paypal account.
