I was just cleaning out my office this morning when I came across an article I had saved by the Rocky Mountain News. They named what they thought were the top 100 players available for the draft. The Chiefs did pretty good:

10. Derrick Johnson: Consistent 4.5 speed in the 40 yd dash and a big-time finisher who forced a fumble every 14.4 tackles in 04. Set an NCAA record with 9 forced fumbles last season.

41. Craphonso Thorpe: Broke right leg in 03 and was spotty catching the ball in 04.

72. Alphonso Hodge: So rarely challenged, he finished career without an interception although he always covered the best WR.

The top 100 did not include a punter, so if you add the fact we arguably took the best punter in the draft and had Surtain in the 2nd round- that was a pretty darn good draft.

Typically, I'm usually somewhat happy with the draft at this point. New players and the thought of what they will bring, especially after reading all of the positive reviews of them and all. It's in November and December when I come to the realization that shining a 2 foot square spot on the bench it about the only think our draft picks can do a decent job of that I get disappointed.

Time will tell. On paper, now...it looks good.

We'll know in a couple of years.
