If the average height of a Cambodian is only (for example) 83 percent that of an American, is the definition of midgetry for a Cambodian only 83 percent that of the definition in America? Is it possible to have two people of identical height, yet one is a midget and the other isn't, purely because of the height of those around them?

For some reason I find midgets to be the most hilariously funny thing in world. I know it is mean to laugh at a person affected by something out of their control, but I can't help it.

Even worse, it must be hereditary because we were at Chimney Rock, NC in gift shop, when a family of 5 walks in and the Dad is a midget. My son sees him and starts laughing his butt off, pointing at the guy. I was embarassed for the guy, quickly removed my son from the store and gave the talk about making fun of people like a good father should, but deep down inside I wanted to laugh also.

Now I can't even watch Monster Garage in front of the boy because I don't want to be a bad example laughing at that crazy midget, who is the best part of the show.

Isn't there some sort of medical condition associated with being a midget? Something they can diagnose... or, is the title based solely on height?

Dwarfism is certainly a medical condition, but I don't know about, um, 'midgetism'. Obviously there's a shortage of pituitary activity or something, so maybe it is a medical condition, but at the same time it seems like it would not be a discrete condition. If you're only a pint low, maybe you're 46 inches tall and if you're two pints low you're 29 inches tall. Are both people midgets?

I need to learn more about this.
