Bob Dole's baby sister sent Bob Dole an email with a link to the obit for a friend who died this past Tuesday. It's posted on the funeral home's website, which Bob Dole supposes is nice for those of us who have moved away and don't subscribe to the local newspaper.

Bob Dole is having a tough time deciding, however, whether the guestbook and memorial message feature is creepy or kind of cool.

Depends on the person..... for me, it's OK, neither creepy or cool.

I suppose it is sort of neat. That way the families will have a record of friends who couldn't actually attend the funeral, but send their regards.

when an online friend of mine died a while back we made a memorial site for him including a guestbook (which has to be cleaned of spam regularly)

i think it's cool.

What's the difference in sending a personal card thru the mail?

i think it's cool.

The guest book on the funeral home's site is set up so comments are screened before they are posted.

It hink it's cool, but what would REALLY be creepy would be a drive thru Funeral home...

You drive up to the speaker/menu and hear:

"Welcome to Casket King, Please say the name of the deceased..."
- you answer

"Spouses name?"
- you answer

"Any children?"
...

"Would you like to view the body?"
...

"Would you like music?"
...

"One moment please..."

Then you pull forward to a viewing screen/window on driver's side..

Music plays, body appears (or not)

Voice comes over that crackly speaker again...

"We are gathered here today to pay respects to:"

yeah, THAT woul be creepy

Bob Dole can't wait until they set up virtual visitation.

First thought was creepy. But, after I thought about it more and visited www.rememberdark.com decided it would be better than nothing. Have had a few friends who have died that I couldn't make it to their funeral and would have been nice to express my thoughts to their family.

Postcards work too, but that never happens.

When I die, my funeral arrangements will specify that everyone arrive in costume. I'll go as either Dracula or the Mummy.

On topic, I think it's cool.

Nice if you can't make the funeral, I guess.

Sounds like a come on to add to the funeral cost,

Pass the technology use on to the customer.

FYI - Bob Dole thought he was joking about the visitation cam.

Difference is that with my idea, you'd actually see the body...this website only has pictures of the deceased, in their life...
