View Full Version : Tornadoes in KC area today

Archie F. Swin

the Storm Prediction Center has placed NE Kansas, NW Missouri, SE Nebraska and SW Iowa in a High Risk of severe weather. Basically draw a line from Des Moines to Lexington to Emporia to Topeka to Omaha back to Des Moines and that's the bulls eye. The only time SPC issues a high risk is when they feel nearly every thunderstorm that develops in the area today will be capable of producing a tornado. So be careful guys. Todays the kind of day where you need to have a way to monitor the weather on an hourly basis. Good day to have your NOAA weather radio with fresh batteries.

This is the front that was in this region two days ago and produced several twisters. It's one nasty SOB.

I was gonna clean and waterproof my deck. Looks like I won't be touching my deck today.
You know, in Suburbia a man is measured by the size of his deck.

I get really really bored on rainy summer days....

yep, it was orchestrated by Tatsumi Maranara.

All you could see for miles and miles were the carnage of seeds and spilled juice for miles and miles.

Tornadoes have a bad reputation for destroying homes and killing people and stuff, but in my opinion they don't get enough positive recognition for their important role in helping people evolve into flying creatures.

Unplug your anything electrical you don't want fried, check your batteries in your flashlights, grab some candles and hunker down. These storms are chalked full of lightning and several power outages have already been reported.

Heh, yeah. My dad lives up there. And he moved out of his house a couple years ago into a trailer. :shake: Lucky for him, he was out at Perry Lake.

Lucky for me, the rain and crap didn't hit until about 7:30 or 8:00. I got a lot done. :)

Here's a big 4321 to the weather tonight.

The wife and I were in Galena this evening for a mini-getaway weekend. Around midnight the worst part of this storm system was over Cedar Rapids producing large hail and heading straight for us. With no safe place to park the Mustang, I decided the risk was too great, and we headed home to the safety of the garage. Just got in.

F#cking weather. :cuss:

I hope you didn't share the sentiments with the wife.

Galena is west of Chicago. The shitty weather was traveling northeast. We got out from under it quickly.

Wow.. after all that hype and hysteria the weather people were pimping on the local channels, I think we got about 1/10th of an inch of rain total in South KC tonight. I know other areas in the North region of the metro didn't do so well, but it's amazing how far off their prediction was.

Here's a big salute to the local weather crew for making us ditch our plans for the evening because of the threat of severe weather. 4321

Their prediction wasn't far off at all. 100% of the tornadoes reported for last night occurred within watch areas ranging from Oklahoma all the way to Wisconsin. Just because one didn't hit KC doesn't mean they were "far off".

They may have saved several lives. There's a reason that year after year we set records for fewest tornado-related deaths. But God forbid you had to ditch your plans.

On a different note, a friend of mine who lives near the MO border (near Kellerton) had SOFTBALL-sized hail last night. He said the biggest one he found was almost 4.5".

ExtremeChief
06-05-2005, 07:12 AM
It hit here around 11pm. We got lucky and just got ridiculous wind. Maybe pea sized hail and some rain, but no tornadoes as far as I know. Since I have a tornado magnet (double wide), I try to keep an eye out during tornado season.

Man, that second sentence reads like it came straight out of an Athan article...

No, and I didn't ask. Nothing wrong with the room, and I can't fault them for the weather or me being paranoid.

Odds are nothing happened. Even when it hails, the big stuff is generally isolated. It probably just rained like hell and that was it. But the way my luck runs :grr: I wasn't going to chance it.
