I'm actually considering coming down. I've never attended any off-season activities before, but I think I might give it a shot.

If I do come, I'd be all for tailgating.

Anyone have info on the details of the minicamp? Dates, Times, Admission, etc.

Ditto. I am planning to come down on the 18th as well.

I'm guessing the schedule goes something like this.

Gates open to parking lot at 10a.m.
Gates open to Arrowhead at 11a.m.
Practice/Mini-Camp at 12p.m.

Gates open at 10am (admission is free)
Stadium opens at 11am
Practive from approximately noon - 2pm

I'll be coming up to KC with the family, having a Father's Day BBQ that evening at the Sister-in-Law's house a few minutes from the stadium. I've never had the opportunity to swing by the ChiefsPlanet gatherings, and this sounds like that opportunity. If it gets put together, please publish where the gathering will be.

Thanks!

We're planning on a get together. For those of us planning to attend, we should setup a call tree. Next person to post on this thread gets PMed my phone #. He should PM his mobile # to the next person who posts and so on. Instead of B-5, we should really have it near SCAGA's camper. I don't know where they'll park him, but that's probably a convenient spot. Right?

New plan....
Won't have the camper at the tailgate. It'll be parked at the Worlds of Fun Village as we're now coming up Friday, God willing. I've got a brother-in-law in the hospital right now and things aren't looking too good.

Hopefully I'll still get a chance to meet up with everyone and down a few cold ones.

The only parking problem you should have is dipchit parking lot attendants . Everytime I go to either stadium they end up parking me in a lot 3 miles away from the stadiums, with miles of empty parking spaces between me and the gate.

They actually make it sound like it is going to be a good event for both the true acoholic season ticket holder real fans, and the family guys with mediocre fanship that like to watch and support a team via Time Warner.

Normally, I don't condone ignoring "authority" figures, but those damn parking lot nazis have to go. Drive past them to the B lot and park as close as you can to B5. If they approach you, tell them firmly that you're meeting your family there and you can't call them on a cell phone. I kinda doubt the parking lot nazis will be out in force for this event considering there is no charge, but there will certainly be some. They don't make enough money to want to mess with the non-conformists. So once they realize you aren't budging, they'll turn their attention to the rest of the vehicles.

Ok guys, my Suburban is all loaded up, and I'll be hitting the road early tomorrow morning.

If you want to pack light, anyone is welcome to use my grill and whatever space I've got in my cooler (which may be sparse).

Also, I have a big 10' x 10' tent/awning, so that will provide some relief from the sun. I'll try and get there first thing, so it can be in the middle of things for all to use.

I plan on getting as close to the B-5 pole as possible. I'll keep an eye out for Phil's truck, and my suburban will have the flag flying.

Looking forward to putting some faces to the usernames. :thumb:

Was it Battle that got injured and carted off the field? (nm, answered.)

LJ looked good, and Preist is fit. I caught a t-shirt thrown by Priest at the end, snagged it one-handed in quadruple coverage. Bitches.

DJ looks like an athlete, he moves with such fluidity. Key Fox looked good to me, really quick and athletic, and made a great deflection off of Collins. (Maybe Huard, dunno.)

Richard Smith made some dandy catches out there. The only times I really noticed Boomer was when he was out of position on screens. I don't really recall seeing Scanlon take a snap, I must have missed him.

Sorry I was so quiet at the tailgate, I had a little case of the bubbleguts going on. Phobia's food defintely helped, though.

Hey guys, just got home about an hour ago.

First, I want to say it was great to meet everyone. Being a new guy, it was nice to get a warm reception. I look forward to another chance to have a few beers.

As far as the practice, here's what I noticed:

The receivers caught everything, both routine and difficult. I saw some guys really go up an get some passes. I wasn't sure on names to go with some of the new guy numbers, but everyone looked very solid. As Phobia said, #6 (whoever the hell that is) looked really good. He was fast, and shifty. I'm not sure if he was just giving more effort or what, but the guy stood out.

Damon Huard sucks. Even in very light action (no defense), his passes were off target a lot IMO. If this guy ever has to be the man, we're fooked. I'm officially rooting for the rookie to beat him out.

The defense was mostly at the other end, but what I saw looked good. DJ made a nice play, and Fox made several nice plays (that I saw).

Holmes is a man among boys. He just stands out. Watching him burn down the field never gets old.

Phobia
06-18-2005, 06:37 PM
Heh heh. I though Huard looked pretty good. He's #11, right? 'course I only watched him throw half a dozen balls, but he looked smooth to me.

Phobia

Heh heh. I though Huard looked pretty good. He's #11, right? 'course I only watched him throw half a dozen balls, but he looked smooth to me.Yea, I'm probably being too hard on him. I just know that every time there was an errant pass, he was the guy QBing. And some of them were pretty bad, in pretty relaxed settings. Collins looked pretty good IMO, and I don't think I saw Green throw a single ball.

To answer a few questions...

1. You forgot my name on the list of people that showed up. I introdused myself to raiderhater, Pink, Phil, Stevie ray, and Weirdwolf. I even bought a Planet shirt while I was there.

2. Yes Tony was there, just didn't work out with everybody else. However, my daughter caught one of the shirts thrown into the crowd from none other than Tony himself.

3. The shirt was a basis white T-Shirt with a small logo across the chest with the words, "Hungry for football?" "Sneak Preview, Chiefs Mini Camp, Saturday-June 18,2005" On the back, there were 5 ads "Lee Dungarees, Can't Bust Them since 1889" , "105.1 JACK FM, Playing what we want", "94.9 KCMO, Greatest Hits of the 60's and 70's", 710 KCMO Fox News talk radio", and "101 the Fox, Classic Rock & Roll"

4. Colquitt had some incredible hang time on his punts (some well over 5 seconds) and the left footed kick does make a difference. Kennison dropped it twice and Hall dropped it once that I noticed.

5. I don't know what Vermeil didn't see in Thorpe (#12). The guy has amazing speed and caught everything thrown his way. He's going to be something special one day.

6. S. Parker ran nice routes and cuaght everything thrown his way as well. Reguardless of the Mitchell signing, it looks like the #2 spot is his to lose.

7. Richard Smith looked good as well... We're stacked at the WR position

8. Kris Wilson is everything Vermeil said he was last offseason. Opposing defenses are going to have a hell of a time covering all our offensive weapons.

9. Holmes was injured????? I sure as hell couldn't tell? The guy is a freak!!!

10. Wesley is still starting over Woods and deserves the spot. Woods and Sapp were double covering a WR (forgot who) and let the ball fall right into the WR's hands befor getting burnt into the endzone.

11. D. Johnson WILL be something very special in this league.

Well, I just got home today at 7:00 this evening, and first of all, I just wanted to say that it was good seeing some of you guys at B-5. I arrived around 9:30 in the morning at the lot C, and walked my way over to B-5 and I only saw raiderhater standing there by himself, and I introduced myself to him there and we were chilling there for awhile, until we saw Phil's big truck (Damn, that thing is huge  ) driving up and parked over at the C lot, and we walked our way over there and I introduced myself to Phil and his wife Pink, along with their kids. Then, I walked around, just taking a few photos of Arrowhead, and came back and saw that they moved to the B-5 spot, so I thought it was cool. Then got to met several guys over there as well. In all, I had a great time meeting some of you folks, and I look forward to do that again sometime in the near future. By the way, jspchief, that burger you gave to me, was damned good. :)

Here are a few links of some photos that I managed to capture. By the way, ignore the date, since I know it is wrong, but since I put in new batteries in it on the 18th, I didn't had time to mess with the date.

DigitalTakawira and I went to the mini camp, and when first sitting down, realized that we were sitting in front of the offense, while the defense was on the complete other side of the field, with half the amount of people watching.

We walked over and spent the rest of the practice seeing the improvements on D.

Sims looked as if he had been eating 24/7 during the offseason. He was constantly winded, and looked lethargic, from what I saw, though I've read positive things happened when apparently I wasn't watching.

The WRs dominated the corners for the most part, and both Thorpe and Curry were savages.

Colquitt's hangtime is utterly ridiculous, though half of his kicks lacked any spin at all. Once or twice the entire defense was standing within a couple of yards of the returner waiting for the ball to come down.

My appreciation for the Chiefs sweep technique and how Priest moves behind it did nothing but grow. Sitting in the endzone, it's amazing to see how fast the line pulls and the holes open and close. It was as if nothing had happened to Priest, he looked as fast as usual.

My favorite play of the day was watching Samie Parker decimate someone on a double move, while Collins looked to Kris Wilson across the middle. What looked to be a perfect pass was broken up at the last millisecond by a trailing Derrick Johnson.

I got to share this one.
I suppose everyone has one of those guys close to them in the stands that perhaps has drank a little more than most and is a little more vocal than most. I had these 2 guys in front of us that I nicknamed the "tappet brothers" that were yelling out the players names. I have to admit they were cracking me up with their annoyances when they would holler out. Its like they would sit there quietly scouting, drinking their beer, then without warning just jump up and yell a players name.
"Eddie"
"Alp-hon-zo"
"Freddy"
Most of the players would, with much hesitation and a maybe a little fear, turn around or look over and wave at the stands.

I wish I could have caught more of him but this is just a snipet.

We had a pretty good time. I got fried as I was too stupid to remember to put on sunscreen, despite the fact that I got fried last time I went to the minicamp. Chilled aloe with lidocaine is a godsend.

I was amazed at how many people showed up - there was 2-3X more than the last time I went. It's not surprising that it didn't look very full as Arrowhead tends to swallow up smaller crowds.

We sat in the East endzone and had a great view of the receiver's practice. I too felt guilty at thinking "Oh - it was only Battle" when he went down. Parker and Smith made some awesome catches and Sutain is a very physical corner. I remember thinking more than once "Illegal contact - defense #23". Sapp and Battle (before he got hurt) were getting burned all over the field.

LJ looks great as did the Priest.

Did anyone else notice that giant TE? (http://www.kcchiefs.com/player/willie_walden/) I don't think he did anything and is probably just camp fodder but the roster listed him at 6'7". We just kept thinking "damn he's tall". He's the kind you stand in the back of the end zone and just say "Jump when the ball is thrown".

I did noticed the TE as he stood out in terms of height and size from the other TE's and I thought he was an O-Line until I looked up on the program where they had him listed as a TE. You never know, he might have a good shot as a PS player.

Did anyone get one of the free t-shirts? I wasn't about to go in to the middle of an angry mob fighting for a $5 hanes. I just wonder what they said/looked like.

We got 3 of them, and yeah they are pretty cheap, but hey, they're free! My wife caught one, then my sis-in-law, and the last one thrown on my side was K.Bell. I swear he looked right up at me, and threw a perfect lob right to me, kinda cool. I think I'm gonna have to get a #99 jersey instead of #95 I'd been planning. Although DJ looked bad a$$! So a #56 would feel pretty good too!

Sorry I didn't make it to the talkgate gathering. Had my 2 little kids with me, and my son Jay (4) really wanted to go jump around in the Fox inflatable thingy, and my daughter Hallee (7) wanted to see the Cheerleaders. Now how am I supposed to pass that up? :)

My standout impressions from practice:

Priest and LJ both just look awesome!! Especially pleased to see Priest with the signiature burst and finding the right hole. I know the practice is designed to let the RB go by with little more than a touch, but a couple plays were legit breakthroughs. There was a UdFA RB, #41 I think, can't remember his name, looked like he had some potential. Anybody help me out with that?

Huard sucks, but so does the rook, Killian, although he's got some nice wheels. Nice QB bootleg to show off those wheels and he broke clean around the edge for a big gain. Not impressed with the passing, got a long ways to go.

DJ is a stud!! Despite the fact I was impressed with Fox, there is absolutely no way DJ is out of the starting LB group. Same for Kawika, he looked pretty good, made some nice plays. Scanlon didn't practice at all, but Boomer did, and he didn't make any plays that I saw, other than chase down a RB after being out of position to stop the play initially. Bell looks healthy to me, saw some good plays from him. Over all I am psyched about our LBs!!!

The WRs dominated the DBs, in my opinion. Sammie Parker is for real! He was smooth and make every play. Burned Surtain on 1 occasion. I thought Thorpe looked pretty good, but saw him blow a couple plays. One thing I noticed on individual drills, his pattern was lazy, not sharp. Then Booth and Curry followed him with very crisp execution of the same pattern. Richard Smith looked very sharp. Our WRs look just fine as is, and looks like we're gonna have to cut a couple guys that really could warrent a roster spot. If we get anything positive out of Freddie, we are set! Bo didn't practice, but did work out before practice, and didn't show any favoritism for his knee(he was wearing a brace). Chris Horn also worked out before practice along with Bo, didn't seem to be injured at all.

Tough break with Battle, looked like no more than an ankle sprain, until he was writhing around in pain, and many teammates came over to support him. Once the cart came out, I knew he was done. I can't say I noticed anything special about his play, but putting Dexter back in the starting lineup if Warfield gets suspended does not sit well with me. Only standout note on the DBs was Hodge is very raw, but this guy looks like he really could be somethin in the future. He is very aggressive and determined. He fights very hard on every play he was out there, didn't give an inch to anybody. Very tenacious player, and that excites me down the road for him.

EDIT: Oh and by the way, Dustin Colquitt is da bomb!! Huge, huge hangtime! Very impressive! Punting problem solved.

K Bell- quick and fast
A Hodge-aggressive and stuck to his man
D Colquitt-I wont be surprised if he becomes best punter in league
C Thorpe-little green\ caught some impressive throws
