Yeah... that's right.

I prefer brisket and ribs... brisket's more of a weekend thing, but ribs I can set to go just about any time. Same with chicken.

Poll is forthcoming... BE FRIGGIN' PATIENT!

Hell yes. I want to find out how to make those. I can only get them at Worlds of Fun and places like that.

Shit, they're about the easiest thing to smoke in the world.

Do you have a charcoal grill like a Weber kettle? Just put charcoal/wood in one side of it and put the turkey legs opposite the heat. Easy.

I smoke any meat that will give me a buzz. Preferably beef cause cows eat anything including gonja growning in the pasture.

I'm pretty bad at it, so I limit myself. My favorites in terms of what I make are Salmon and Turkey.

If it's someone that's good at it, nothing beats a well smoked brisket.

This needed to be a multiple choice poll.

Brisket
Pork Butt
Country Pork Ribs

Dartgod

You left pork butt (shoulder) off the poll. Ribs is no. 1 for me, followed by pork butt.

My favorite is pork roast (Boston Butt), but brisket, pork ribs, and chicken aren't far behind.

It's supposed to be a "if given one choice..."

It's just poorly worded.

I marked brisket because it is my favorite to eat. I do pork butt more often because it is both faster and easier to get good results.

What? No Salmon in the poll option. I'd have to say Salmon is preferably my favorite. Anybody here ever try Moose Ribs?...I love smoking Moose Ribs as well.

I'm with ya. If I'm not feeling like shelling out the $$$ for babybacks or spares, I do country-style. They turn out quite well on the smoker.

I probably smoke more butt roasts than anything else, mostly because of price.

How does beef brisket compare in price to pork butt? I don't have a smoker but probably should get one.

You should try buying better country-style ribs then. They're cut from the loin, so they have alot of fat, but no more than a roast. Not only that, but they do have alot of meat and that meat tastes better BECAUSE of the fat. Pork fat is one of the best flavoring agents on the face of the planet.

I'll have to check. IIRC, they're about the same, price-per-pound.

If you shop around you can usually find either on in the $1 per pound range.

Yeah, I've never bought any country style ribs, because every time I've eaten them somewhere, it nearly made me sick from all the fat and grease.
I suppose it's a combination of bad cuts of meat and bad preparation of the cook. But just the thought of country style ribs make me ill. This is coming from a guy that buys his steaks and other meats with major marbling.

I don't grill country-style ribs. I've only bought them a couple of times and both times I smoked them for about 7 hours. The fat kinda melts away, leaving fairly large hunks of meat. They're kinda the best of both worlds -- stringy and tender like a butt roast, but with the smoke penetration potential of a rack of ribs.

I'll have to buy them sometime and prepare them the right way. I've smoked shoulders and butts, so I know what you mean about fat melting away.
I haven't even tasted country style ribs since I was a kid, because of the bad experience. It was probably prepared by one of those people who like to get out a pan, put in the meat, pour 2 or 3 bottles of BBQ sauce on top, throw it in the oven and call it BBQ.

ROFL ROFL ROFL

That's precisely the way me MiL fixes it. In fact, I got the idea to smoke country-style ribs from eating her "BBQ".

Buy a small package of the country-style ribs next time you do a butt. That way, if you hate them you always have your butt to fall back on, so to speak.
