Tackling has become such a big thing in the NFL. You have to be able to tackle to play defense

WTF, now he's got it figured out.

To be fair, I think there were several players on defence last year who didn't know that.

That's the truth. For all the blathering about the "scheme", the bottom line is there have been a bunch of guys on KC's defense lately who act like ballcarriers have cooties.

True, but I just pointed it out, because it is such a stupid quote. When was tackling not such a big thing in the NFL or at any level of football?

I can see this, How many times do you see players wanting to lay a big hit on a guy only to miss ? The best form of tackling is to wrap up, something most pros are not doing anymore.

Funny how you guys like to twist comments around.

Had Boomer of said this, the media and you guys would be drooling over it.

You'd be laughing your azz off if Plummer had said:

Snaping the ball has become such a big thing in the NFL. You have to be able to snap the ball to play offense

Actually if Plummer said it it would have read:

"Not throwing to the other team has become such a big deal in the NFL"

It was a stupid comment now matter how you spin it.

I don't have a problem with Scanlon. I hope he kicks some ass and don't care how he gets them down as long as he does.

How many times last year did DV or Gun say we need to tackle better, we have to get these guys use to tackling ?

Roy, I think people are more ripping on the fact he said "tackling has become such a big part of the NFL." when that comment just sounds funny when you say it. Just like if you were to say, betting has become such a big part of poker.

It just sounds funny.

OK, I'm going to explain this one more time and leave it at that.

The NFL has become a hard hitting league of players. Players who are more inclined to lay the big hit and be seen on Sportscenter/ ESPN or any other sports stations. What is happening more than what coachs want to see is players hitting but not taking the ball carrier down. The whole league in gerneral is not what it use to be.

I guess if you want to look at the statement, it can be taken any way you want to read it.

To be fair, the whole comments went like this ......
SCANLON: “Repetitions and being out there on-the-field tackling. Tackling has become such a big thing in the NFL. You have to be able to tackle to play defense. That has been such a huge thing and you don’t get to practice that here. You don’t get to practice that in OTAs or mini-camps. They are very restricted on the rules. Wrapping up ball carriers, covering people, running around, hitting people is the biggest part on an every down basis.”

Compairing the difference in NFLE and OTA's......

Continue to spin it boys ....... :)

If Gopher had said "Learning proper tackling has become a such big thing in the NFL, because so many have forgotten how to do it." not one person here would have made a negative comment.

But he didn't.
His statement implied that at one time, tackling wasn't important in the NFL, whether that was his intended meaning or not.

I'm certain it wasn't his intended meaning, but because he misrepresented his meaning, it's a dumbass comment.

People have to also realize, he just got back into America only a couple hours before... and went to practice, with jetlag.

gotta cut him a break... at least he went to practice. Pretty dedicated, I'd say.

And from that one statement you can tell the context the statement came from?

It doesn't matter what the context the statement came from, unless you believe that at some point in time tackling wasn't a big thing in the NFL.
