Watched it and thought it kinda sucked that the Capt. (Glenn Close) got fired. Anyone know if that's just a temporary thing or was Glenn Close just signed on for 1 season? I really like her character and can't stand that Assivada(sp?) asshole.

I was the shield's biggest fan for the first 2 seasons, then I stiopped watching and didn't pick it back up until midway through this past season. It seemed to get better once they reunited the Strike team for real. Can you give me more details on the finale? I liked Glenn's character too. Acevada is an idiot, I didn't care for the character transformation into the whore buyer guy who likes rough sex. they enever should have let him win that election. And Dutch banging Vic's wife? Come on...puke!

Really though, mind sharing a few details about the finale?

I totaly agree on the Captian. I am hoping that the force rallys for her reinstatement - Vic has tried to get her to stand up and Dutch (suprisingly) turned down her position.

I can give you a rundown if you like. I just thought you might like to catch the replay and see the real thing. BTW, I believe they replay it on Monday night. ;)

What CD is out tomorrow? I'm gonna assume you're referring to Dream Theater's new one. It is out already. It came out last Tuesday and I got it on my lunch the same day. :) Of course, it kicks ass. DT never fails to deliver.

Wow, a pastor watches this show. I thought it might be a little too racey for a man of the cloth.

Hate to ask this on this thread, BUT:

After the transition from 6 degrees to Train of Thought (at least I considered 6 Degrees quite a shift) how does this one rate?

About the captain;

Glenn Close is off the show. She wanted to participate for a season, but return to her life afterwards. They're sad she's gone, but knew it was a one season deal when they signed her.

Heh heh, I'm highjacking my own thread. Yeah, the new one is much more back to prog. It's similar to 6 Degrees. Train of Thought was their heavy dark thing. They said they got that out of their system. Don't get me wrong, Octavarium does have some heavy stuff in it. But it is a good mix of heavy with other stuff.

Funny, I loved Train of Thought; they did heavy with total class, if that makes any sense...?
I won't be able to buy the new one until next paycheck, but I can't wait...!

I loved Train Of Thought, too. Of course, it was somewhat their Awake part 2 and Awake is one of my all time favorite DT albums. But there were some DT fans that didn't like the all out heavy mode for that album. That's the great theing about DT. They like to change gears for every new album. Therefore, there will always be some disappointed fans. That's usually the newer fans who have only heard 1 or 2 albums. If it's someone who has followed them a long time, they know to expect the unexpected.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't. There are parts that I think they could do without - like the sexual stuff with Acevada and such, but the action and story line about the team is really intense. The show kinda hooks you like a soap hooks a housewife - you can't wait to see the next episode to see what happens.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't. There are parts that I think they could do without - like the sexual stuff with Acevada and such, but the action and story line about the team is really intense. The show wouldn't be what it is without the sexual undertones.

The Acevada storyline in particular was interesting to me (although the scene where he was raped was one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever had to sit through). And it wasn't really about sex at all. It was about control. The brilliant irony of it all (to me) was that he went to the prostitute as an outlet, and just put himself into another situation where he was not really in control, no matter how much he might have thought he was. That kind of relationship is always controlled by the submissive. She told him when he was being too rough, she told him when to stop, she eventually told him never to come back. He still hasn't dealt with that issue, and if the writers stay true to form, some interesting stuff should happen next year.

I'll step on my soapbox for a second and say that your response (sex stuff bad, action great) is what I really believe to be responsible for many of the so-called "ills" in society. Sex is treated with this puritanical attitude, as if it's something naughty, something to be ashamed about, while violence is glorified. I think that's the road that's let to the explosion (sic) of pornography as well as some more deviant sexual behavior. I think the victorian attitude about sex led to the very "decline in morality" that many of the people who believe in said victorian attitude are concerned about. Because I think the appeal (for many) is that they're doing or seeing something they're not supposed to. The appeal is more voyeuristic than sexual. And maybe I'm biased by my early career as a catholic (I've since reformed) but I think guilt plays a very large part in it, too.

But that's only my opinion.

And the most disturbing image I've seen on the shield? To this day, it's still the scene where Vic burns the guy's face on a stove. That one may have scarred me for life. That to me was as bad or worse than the Aceveda rape scene. Although it about had me puking, too.

Keg, I do agree with the undertones. My point wasn't necesarily that removing the undertones would help the storyline, it is rather that if they cut back a bit on what they actually showed, it would help the viewability. They don't have to change the storyline, that stuff happens, but if they weren't quite as graphic in some areas, I wouldn't have to change the channel and come back a few minutes later after the scene is over.

I'm in the same boat with some of the afore-mentioned violence (like the stove scene). That was too over-the-top for me, though I sat through it at the time. But, I also don't have a problem fast-forwarding through a scene if something really offends me. I'm prone to do that with male-on-male sex or even kissing scenes on shows or movies. Because as open to homosexuality as I am as a lifestyle (by "open" I mean that I don't have a problem with it, I'm even in favor of gay marriage, but I'm not gay myself...) I just don't want to watch it. Some shows (Six Feet Under) in particular I can't watch, because of that, but that's my issue; I'd never ask them to change the show. I just accept the fact that the show isn't right for me and I watch something else.

Some people complain about the language on the Shield, too, but I speak just like they do (or worse) so I love it. :D

Heh, I kind of enjoyed the face to hot burner scene. Maybe I'm just warped but I liked seeing the scumbag get what was coming to him. Like keg, I'm uncomfortable when they do those gay sex scenes. :Lin: I don't understand why Acevada wasn't such a puss when that guy's girlfriend visited him at his car. You know, put a gun to her head and make her give up the tape. Hell, if I were in the original situation, I'm certain I would've chosen death.

Hell, if I were in the original situation, I'm certain I would've chosen death. It's easy to say that. If I had lived through it, I'm not sure I'd have survived afterwards. Instead of finding a hooker like Aceveda, I could see myself at least thinking about looking for a bridge to dive off.

You are not warped. I enjoyed that too! The pilot episode was by far the best so far. When he tells the Dr. Child molestor (after the doc asks him if he's the good cop or the bad cop) "I'm a different kind of cop" Then he punches the dude in the throat...classic!
