Hakim changes his mind, spurns Chiefs
Az-Zahir Hakim’s stay in Kansas City lasted about 48 hours.
The free-agent receiver, who officially came to terms on a one-year deal Wednesday, has left the team to pursue a more lucrative offer, coach Dick Vermeil said Friday.
“I think he’s going to end up in New Orleans,” Vermeil said. “I was a little disappointed, but I understand. That’s just the nature of this game. You can’t get everything you want.”
Just two days ago, Hakim was at the Chiefs’ practice, saying he was ready to reunite with his old coach who took the Rams to the 1999 Super Bowl championship. But Hakim was gone by the start of Friday’s minicamp, and Vermeil said the Chiefs will now resume their pursuit of Freddie Mitchell.
Mitchell, a former Eagles receiver, visited the Chiefs last week.
