I cannot remember where I read it, but there was a fascinating article about saving “Falling Waters.” The cantilevered decks have sagged over the years and they had to do some pretty ingenious engineering to restore stability. They were unable [or unwilling] to straighten the sagging decks, so they stabilized them in the crooked condition. Cables were used for support. This was back in 1999 [the house was built back in the middle 30’s].

I used to work in a medical office in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was located in Dominos farms, the owner of Donimos was in love with Frank Lloyd Wright. He had even purchased many of FLW's works and had them in places about the building. The design for Dominos farms was inspired by FLW. It was a long flat building. I never saw the big deal, but WTF do I know

My in-laws and I had several discussions about Wright and his work. After WW2, Wright asked my father-in-law to join him and his group out west. His work did put a premium upon form over function and many of his buildings can be criticized for failing to meet need. But his use of materials both new and in new form, freed up architecture to pursue new and inspiring structures. New ideas, new forms, always need refinement in their production. But he did so much to inspire investigation of new processes and uses. Only the German Bauhaus movement compares.

That church at 46th and Main in the Country Club Plaza is a Frank Lloyd Wright building. My college alumni office (the U of Chicago) is in his Robie House and I twisted my ankle once jogging around some tourists to the Oak Park neighborhood where his studio and some of his other houses are. The entrance to our neighborhood in California is named for him, too.

Dude designed some great buildings for keeping roofers busy. :)

Here's the page from the Community Christian Church (KCMO) on the architect for their building:
