Ty Law and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed in principle pending Law pass a physical and is able to prove he will be ready September 11, 2005 for opening day, according to Kansas City's 610 Sports reporter Rhonda Moss. Law's agent and the Chiefs are speaking daily, and are very close in terms of dollars.

Well, I couldn't be giddier than a pile a poop.

If true, 2 out of the 3 players I wanted the Chiefs to aquire this offseason are on the roster. Kendrell Bell and Ty Law. I guess I could live without Justin Tuck.

I don't ask for much. Well there was that waitress in San Jose but she wasn't completely sane as it turned out so it's ok that that one didn't happen. I know it's been a while since I've talked to you and I only come to you with my wants... but this time it's different. This time it really matters. You see, the Chiefs... ya know my football team... are reportedly, possibly, maybe going to sign Ty Law. Yes THAT Ty Law. You did a nice job on him btw. It's like having air and water and food. I don't think I can live without it now that I've had a taste. If you could do this for me... for us..... I mean they are YOUR favorite team too. Benmaller is a great site for sports news. They reported all the signings the Chiefs have made thus far, way in advance. Thats why they are on foxsports.

Ty Law will be a Chief. All that nonsense he was spewing yesterday was to get the deal sealed. He would never talk on a KC station unless it had something behind it. Also on PTI i believe it was, Whitlock spoke to Law yesterday. Im sure Whitlock creamed all over himself in the process as well and off air whispered into Law's ear, " I told them to sign you first not Pat Surtain. I wanted you. Please come to us and I will give you a game used Ball State jersey that me and Jeff George wore while sleeping together."

Jets cant get law. They just signed a corner from Dallas and they have to resign this guy below. They are already broke.

By next Friday expect Law to be in Red n Gold.

Contract talks between the Jets and three-time Pro Bowl DE John Abraham can officially resume today as the blackout for negotiations between franchise players and their teams is lifted. The club has placed the franchise tag on Abraham ($6.67 million) but he wants a long-term deal and didn't take part in the team's off-season condition program. Abraham, who spent the off-season working with a personal trainer, may not report to training camp on time. The Jets are balking at giving Abraham a long-term deal because of his injury history. Last season, he missed the final four games of the regular season and two playoff games after suffering a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

Admittedly the downside is limited, but the upside is HUGE. If, by some miracle, they do nail this you can bet 810 will be scrambling to find a way to claim they knew.

All she has said on the radio is that Law and the Chiefs are close to a deal, not that they already have a deal in place.

Tell that to Stephen Glass.

Don't know who he is.
My point is guys like Keitzman, Whitlock, and many of the "journalists" on ESPN etc. say all kinds of stuff every offseason and they aren't half right about any of it. No one ever holds them accountable or questions their credibility because they've forgotten about it.
I'll never forget hearing years ago that Carl Peterson was going to leave the Chiefs and take the Eagles GM job. I don't remember who said it but it was on ESPN or Inside the NFL on HBO. It wasn't even close to the truth and I'm sure the guy who said it is still employed somewhere. I wouldn't have people fired for being wrong about things like that but I would expect them to tone down their sensational reporting after being made a fool of.

I didn't read the whole thing but there is a difference between sports journalism and, for lack of a better way of putting it, regular journalism. I'd say many sports journalists fall into the same trap this guy did. Difference is, they're not held accountable because their subject is sports, which is not life and death stuff in many people's lives.

Another example:

Everyone was wrong when they said that USC defensive tackle Manuel Wright would go no later than the third round in Thursday's supplemental draft. Wright, who has tremendous upside, cost the Dolphins a fifth-round pick in the 2006 draft, which could turn out to be a bargain if the kid applies himself and gets into camp right away. The Eagles passed on Wright despite speculation that they were interested.

Doesn't KC have the most cap room of the remaining interested teams? This is the only reason I think it could still happen. If only 4-5 teams want him, and KC is the team with the most to offer (even if it's not what he wants), wouldn't it make sense that they would be the front runner?

FWIW I just read this on a post at FF Today

Ty was just on ESPN Radio in NY:

- Said that the report he has signed with the Chiefs is 100% bullsh*t.

- Said that he is the best CB in the league hands down and no team should be weary of signing him as any team that he is on would now have a distinct advantage over their opponent simply because he is in the lineup.

- Said he is about 3-4 days away from signing a contract with somebody.

- Said he would like to go to a team that is in "win-now mode."

- Said that Bill Bellichik has contacted him recently about possibly returning to the Pats but that he is a "free agent now" and there would be no "home team discount."

- Said the list of teams that his agent is negotiating with are (in exact order):

Jets
Jacksonville

Said the list of teams that his agent is negotiating with are (in exact order):

Jets
Jacksonville
Kansas City
Miami

and yesterday the bastard said that the chiefs hadn't done anything besides call.

that he told his agent not to tell him about teams that just called and that he only wanted to know about serious teams.

The thing I don't get is Rhonda Moss. Besides this bs that's been going on for 2 days, she's been talking repeatedly about how he should sign for 1-2 years, prove he's healthy and then get his next big contract. Apparently she doesn't realize he's 31; there is no "next big contract". He's got to get as much money now as he possibly can.

Watching ESPN PTI now. Two interesting things...

First - Rosenhaus calls out Brett Favre! Apparently Drew has stated that he'd like Brett to call him up before he talks anymore about his client (Javon Walker) in the media. If I was JW, I'd be a little concerned about my agent putting himself above my QB. One has to wonder if Walker has started to question his choice of representation yet.

As for Law...they just interviewed him. Spoke highly of his time in NE. Even said there was still a chance he could be back there for the season. When asked directly which team was the best situation (KC, Detroit, Miami, and a few others), he indicated it was difficult to say and would depend on his role and finances. However, he was asked directly "What's it going to take for KC and Carl Peterson to get you into KC?" His response was that "KC keeps calling but I don't see it happening. They've got Patrick there and I don't see how they can pay both of us. If they can, great." He went on to reiterate that he wants "fair market value", and wants to be paid what he's worth. It really looks that he still believes he will get the Surtain money this late in free agency.

Not to sound like I think we're going to sign Law, because I don't, but I've seen a few reports that the Jets need Law to drop his price tag to even start to think about signing him.

Jacksonville's in the process of trading for Travis Henry.

Miami would be his best fit for location, but I think we've got a better cap situation, and a much better chance at winning sooner. I don't think he really fits there.

Mr. Laz
07-15-2005, 02:42 PM
it's a difficult position for us i think ... because we have to go above and beyond to pull Law away from NE

1. any 1 year type deal goes to Pats imo

2. any under market deal goes to pats

3. top cornerback type money with long term contract goes to other team

1 out of 3 and then we'd still have to outbid other teams.

We don't exactly have a history of overpaying people (or the means right now) and we can't offer the same media limelight as the teams we're competing with, partly because of location and partly because we just haven't been good for so long.

But I still think there's an outside shot until his name's on a contract with someone else.

Interesting segment on 610 right now. They're talking to journalists that cover the teams in the other cities that are interested in Law. So far, Indy, NY, and Jax. Sounds like they're trying to justify Moss' statements by process of elimination.

Indy has no interest in Law. Jax has virtually no more interest in him since they're concentrating on Travis Henry. NY had the most but said that they're nowhere near signing him for what he's asking.

Dallas up next...

There not goin to put TY LAW on the front page until he has passed his physical, really i think Law wants to play with the chiefs. Even though he said he didnt, sometimes players will say these things just to get by the media so that they can sign with a team that they said had no chance at gettin them.

That way so the interviews would stop also. I think Law is playing the other teams and that his front runner is the Chiefs.

Anyong Bluth
07-15-2005, 11:51 PM
Well, it looks to me like Ty has been going full force hype himself because he doesn't have the $$ he wants coming in.

Someone posted on here a while back about FA contracts this late in the game, and how low they are, so while he may be trying to squeeze every red cent out of the remaining teams or using going back to the Pats as leverage, I think his agents has told him to take a 1-2 year performance contract so he can showcase his talent and get the big payday next off season.

If he wants to talk the big talk then take what the market bears and reap the benefits next season, might as well play for KC - what other situation will he step into and look better than if he has surtain on the other side? You can debate the whole #1 and not being thrown to versus having surtain and getting plenty of chances to make plays and INTS...

If he really wants to play for a team that can make a run, no doubt here! Otherwise, Miami probably can offer the best $ but worst situation

From yahoo sports

Jul 15 Reports have surfaced out of Boston that Law has agreed to a deal with the Chiefs, the Boston Herald reports.
Recommendation: The Chiefs, however, have yet to confirm the report, which is being broadcast on WEEI radio in Boston. If he can fully recover from last season's foot injury, and that's a big if, the physical veteran cornerback could team up with ex-Dolphin Patrick Surtain in adding a much needed spark to a defensive unit that ranked 29th overall in the NFL in points allowed (27.2 per game) and dead last in passing yards surrendered (262.7 per game) last season. If this move pans out, the Chiefs will have capped off an extremely busy offseason, which saw them retool their defense through a series of trades, draft picks, and key free agent signings.

Jul 15 Mike Reiss, of the Metrowest Daily News, reports WEEI radio in Boston has been reporting that free agent CB Ty Law (Patriots) has reached a contract agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical. Neither the Chiefs, nor other source are confirming the news at this point.

Saturday's Boston Herald:

In an ESPN radio interview yesterday, cornerback Ty Law [news] hinted that a return to the Patriots [stats, news] is a possibility, and said he has spoken with Belichick, who has called Law directly. He didn't address reports that he reached a deal with the Chiefs.

Me: I still think WEEI is recycling the Rhonda Moss report. That thing has more lives than Shirley MacLaine.

If this stuff is legit, the Chiefs would be the division favorite. If Law is healthy, him and Surtain would prolly be the second best CB trio in the league outside of Baltimore. We'll see if King Carl can pull this off, but i think the Jets, despite trading for Pete Hunter are going to find a way to clear cap room as well. We'll see what happens.
