Ok folks, Im moving into an apartment in a week and I want to get a cage pet. Give me ideas for the best one. My mother thinks a rat. At this point, I'm thinking ferret if I can have it. (Must reread lease agreement.) Also suggested: Guinea Pigs, Chinchilas, Hamsters

Your mother thinks a rat would be a good pet?

18 year old cheerleader, You can pick them up at any mall. They take a bigger cage but the benefits outweigh those of a rat or ferret everytime.

My mother likes rats because they are low maintenance and intelligent.

As much as I like the way you guys think, I think food would cost more a bit too much for the 18 year old cheerleader.

Rats are only good for one thing, feeding snakes. If your mom likes rats so much get yourself a nice red tail boa and you will have all the free feeders you want.

Just give her your left overs and keep her on a high protein diet.

Pet Rock. Be careful not to let it out around strangers. Very dangerous animal. The Pet Rock was recently outlawed in Denver along with pit bulls. Crazy thing is they let a Horse drive a car out there and thats not dangerous?

Something tells me you've already gone through your share of Gerbils.......I'm guessing you just want to upgrade the size of your rodent.

Be a Real Montana Mountain man...Get yourself a pet badger. Catch a wild one and tame it with string cheese.

Well if your thinking wild animals, I've been seeing several Grizzly cubs on my daily route through Yellowstone. Make great cuddly pets, and when they grow up I promise no one will EVER rob you. :thumb:

Wolverines routinely make fullgrown grizzlies back off. Pretty tough shits for only 70 pounds.

I wouldn't get a hedgehog. All they do is sleep all day, and play during the night. Nocturnal. They aren't all that friendly for the most part, and you have to handle them with a glove.

Rats are very sociable animals. I would get a rat. They aren't nocturnal, either. Thats a plus.

Ferrets smell. I don't think they are strictly "cage animals" either. Also higher maintanence.

Most rats are kept as pets. Its mice that snakes eat.

Ive had a ferret before. I like how smart and fun they are. I think I might be sold on the ferret or wolverine...

I'd say a rhesus monkey. The poop-flinging is a particularly strong selling point.

A ferret is not really a cage pet. They're like a cross breed between a doxon and a squirrel.

You want a pet that never leaves its cage get a fish...

Ferrets are kind of fun to get drunk, but the stench is unbearable IMO.

My suggestion would be a bearded dragon.

My mother likes rats because they are low maintenance and intelligent. This is absolutely true, especially if you buy a young one that hasn't had time to get "cagey".

It doesn't matter if it is a boy or girl, I swear the soccer moms have that bias. "I want a female rat because they are nicer", its pure BS.

Besides, when the girls come over and they see them two big suitcases hanging off the back of the rat underneath the tail it makes you think of AC/DC, "He's got big balls, dirty big balls."
