Browns release OL Marcus Spears
August 8, 2005
BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Offensive lineman Marcus Spears, an 11-year veteran who signed as a free agent during the offseason, was released by the Cleveland Browns on Monday.
Spears had the longest NFL tenure of any Cleveland offensive lineman. A second-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 1994, he played in all 16 games and made three starts last season with the Houston Texans.
He also played for Kansas City, starting 16 games in 2001.
The Browns, who have rebuilt their offensive line this season, signed Spears in June after he was cut by Houston.

I wonder what it is that coaches are not seeing? I thought he played very well when he played here.

I don't think Spears is the hardest worker.
Vermiel complained about it all the time.
I recall seeing some Houston O-Line analysis, referrring to Spears last year as the revolving door at RT. If he can't stick with Houston, who gives up mega sack totals, or catch on with a horrible Cleveland team, sounds like he may be done.

this dude stole my Tshirt Store idea... he would come by DNA Customs all the time and ask questions about it... Said he would be willing to pay us, for us to help him get setup... we agreed on 5K... said no problem... and he got some direction from us... bailed to Houston and never paid us a dime.
He was mostly talking to my partner at the time, and my partner freely gave him info. Man, my partner was a fool.

Depth? A 33 year-old guy who was nothing more than a sideline cheerleader when he played for the Chiefs? No thanks.

I would not mind the Chiefs trying to pick him up for the minimum, he was always more than serviceable with the Chiefs, good insurance policy for Shield's back!
