Where is it? My personal favorite was the Brookville Hotel when it was still in Brookville, Kansas, and I'm gonna bet that since they moved it to Abilene it's quality has gone down a touch. Stroud's is damn good, too.

So let's here it...

My vote goes for the original Brookville Hotel.

Never had Brookville Hotel chicken, heard good things though. Strouds just doesn't have enough flavor for me. Popeye's makes good spicy chicken and that is my preference for fried chicken.

While not fried chicken, the best chicken I have ever had was beer can chicken in the smoker. The juicest, most tender, fall off the bone chicken you have ever had. I'm gonna smoke 2 birds this weekend as a matter of a fact. I'm gonna use apple juice this time around. It will all be gone by Monday.

Being a Louisiana native, I have to go with Popeye's spicy.

Unless any of you are ever in Opelousas, Louisiana...then go to Mama's fried chicken, not the franchise, it's a place on E Landry St...as we say down South, it'll make ya wanna go home, F the wife and beat yer dawg

NOTHING compares to Grandma's fried chicken smothered in gravy. Too bad she isn't able to cook anymore. When I was up to see her this spring, my aunt brings her from the care home to her house and made fried chicken and gravy just like grandma used to make - so she said anyway, she didn't. You just can't make fried chicken and gravy like grandma did and be health concious too.

Well they do have the best gizzards.

I will also give a vote to Popeye's for the best fast food chicken. It's some mighty tasty stuff. I used to like KFC years ago, but anymore that shit just gags me. :Lin:

Popeye's spicy titties.

My aunt, who lived in N'awlins in the 1970s, told me that the original, local Popeyes were way spicier than what we get today; when they went national they had to tone it down for the masses.

When my dad was still alive and teaching night school it gave him plenty of time off to drink beer and anything else he wanted but mostly drink beer and chase skirt.
Anyway sometimes the store would run specials on cut up chickens 39c a # or something, and he'd fry chicken all afternoon long and then make homemade gravy w/ the grease.

Id come home from school or running the streets and there would be breadsacks full of chicken and a big container of gravy.

thats livin son!:)

I would have said Peachtree until last week, but that has now changed to Corner Cafe. I went to the Corner Cafe in Liberty on Sunday, and there 4 piece fried chicken dinner with 3 sides and a roll for $9.50 was not only the best tasting meal, but the most meal for the money that I have had since my last trip to Sikeston.

Lamberts RAWKS!!! Chopped steak with Peppers and Onions.

For chicken, I umpteen the motion for Strouds. Those who complain about the spice mix are missing the point. they actually take time to give you a fresh serving with primo fresh chicken meat. All the spice wizardry in the world flies out the window with every second that passes between the frying pan and your seat.

That's why KFC, Lee's, Churchs, et al make me puke [and I have an iron stomach]. And while Popeyes is servicable, I'm too into the red beans and rice to pay any attention to anything other than MAYBE a biscuit with some honey and butter.

I haven't had any fried chicken as good as my Grandmothers, but in 2nd place I'd say:

Chicken livers @ Go Chicken Go, and the original Threadgills in Austin, TX. Then chicken @ Strouds, Chicken Mary's and the Westphalia Hotel in Westphalia, MO. Popeye's spicy is probably the tastiest yardbird chain, still comes in behind the others.

Is Brookville hotel that place that serves the Chicken at the table and they keep bringing more untill its gone? That place is almost just like home cooking. Id have to second that if so. Also those Chicken Marys and Annies resaurants in southeast Kansas are great too.

They both do..... actually you have a choice of either two or three sides with the meal. Slaw (2 kinds), Potato salad (2 kinds), baked beans, spaghetti, fries, etc. Being Italian, I stay away from the spaghetti, because it just doesn't compare.

Reminder. Eat lots of berries(blue, black, cranberry)green vegetable(antioxidants) and fiber(veg and whole grains) if you eat lots of deep fried. And excercise too. Fried still is bad for you.

You can get all the benefits of wine w/o drinking it. Get yourself a bottle of grapeseed oil extract (tablets). That's got way more of the "good stuff" wine has. That's if you're drinking wine for the health benefits. I drink wine 'cuz I like it.

They're by Pittsburg.Actually, Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's are in Yale, KS. Yale is north and east of Pittsburg/Frontenac. There is also an Annie's south of Pittsburg on the highway. My personal favorite is the Annie's east of Girard, which is north and west of Pittsburg. Zack's (downtown Pittsburg) has similar chicken and onion rings, but is more known for their steak tips. Barto's of Frontenac also has similar chicken. To each, their own, I suppose.

Damn, I miss home.
