Maybe I'm being ridiculous, but nearly every time johnson has blitzed this preseason he's gone scot free or blows right past or through the back trying to block him.

So 15 sacks seems reasonable. and 150 tackles.

I'm gonna save this prediction and at the end of the year I'll see how close I was. It won't serve any particular purpose, but I got nothing better to do.

.5 sacks, 25 tackles

In related statistical predictions:
Scanlon 20 sacks and 137 tackles, profiting from DJ's presence :)

Actually, I think DJ will get 9 sacks and 84 tackles

He'll be league MVP if he gets 15 sacks.

He won't.

I almost pity offenses, though. Kendrell Bell is a monster blitzer. Got to worry about that. Johnson is showing the ability to blitz. Got to worry about that. And we've been running DB blitzes out the wazoo. I think our blitz packages are going to create some headaches, and I think that's going to be a boon to our d-line and to our secondary.

Anyway, I think DJ's biggest impact will be in coverage, not blitzing. I don't think he'll have more than 5 or 6 sacks, but I think he could have 5 or 6 interceptions, as well, and as many PDs.

As long as he's wearing a Super Bowl ring in Febuary I'll be happy.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, and welcome to the Planet...but those numbers are crazy.

His impact won't directly show up in numbers either...chasing a RB to the sideline for a 3 yard gain instead of a 10 yard gain, forcing the QB to throw it away on a bootleg etc...

hey, that's why i said i'll save it and see if i'm right!

on a side note, my prediction was loosely based on my first season on madden, where dj only had 125 tackles but 40 sacks.

It's harder to get sacks now since QBs are allowed to intentionally ground the ball. (Worst rule ever.) I predict 3 sacks and 100 tackles, with a couple of interceptions. However, I think he'll get enough QB pressures and big plays to make us all very happy.

If Gun uses him to blitz the QB, I would say 12 sacks. If not I say 7 sacks and 120 tackles. Thats about 7 plus tackles a game.

About 3,000 sacks, 18,000 tackles, and three babies saved from a fire per week.

I know that's getting into Scanlonesque territory, but I'm pretty hyped about DJ right now.

Strongside LBs dont garner a whole bunch of tackles, so dont expect too many. I say around 90 would be fair. (And dont give me that BS about we dont have a weakside or strongside, everyone has a weakside and strongside). He will prolly get about 4-5 sacks and 2-3 INT. A very, very good year for Johnson.

Appearantly I've missed something this offseason. Since when are QB's allowed to intentionally ground the ball? And how is the rule worded to allow defenses to get their sacks.

Yeah thats probably what I would say. 150 tackles is a lot for an OLB anyway even if he is a pro bowler. 70-85 tackles, 5-8 sacks (which I really think he will get more than that) and a few picks will be surely enough to win the DROY award.

I don't expect him to pile up huge numbers but I think his presence will be felt and he'll make some big plays.

Someone should keep stats on the planet of just 'plays made'. It could be a tackle for a loss, sack, forced fumble, interception, pass deflected, a QB pressure that causes incompletion, what have you.

I think 'plays made' would be interesting to track. Maybe even subtract a point or two for getting beat deep or missing a tackle.

Totally subjective of course but it might be a good barometer of difference-making.

can't up it past all-madden. i've made the final 32 in madden challenge the last two years, so the computer is way too predictable for me. but that's good news for virtual dj who is ungodly on this madden with his 88 speed.

in reality, i think 10 to 12 sacks is not out of the question. point of reference--didn't fujita have 5 sacks last year? dj can surely double that.

i got 250+ tackles with DJ and like 19 sacks, along with 6 punts blocked, 2 ints, 12 FF, and 2 Def TDs.
he racks up the tackles on kickoff, as well as the forced fumbles if you use the hit stick.
he has progressed to 92 overall, 90 speed, and 91 awareness. hes the best OLB on the game.
(by the way this was on all-pro setting)

A new NFL stat will be created, called asscakes. As asscake is when a blocker gets knocked on thier ass so hard they bounce at least once. ROFL

Thus far in preseason play, DJ has 3 asscakes to his credit.

I think my favorite part of that play is watching the blocker after DJ hits him. Johnson wrecks him at the 39, his ass hits the ground at the 36, bounces a solid 2 feet backwards, hits the ground again, then finally comes to rest at the 35...and he wasn't going straight back, either. All in all, the blocker went back about 6 yards, 1.5 of which were on his ass after he hit the ground.
There must have been a typo on the scouting report. It should have said that blockers can't take on Derrick Johnson.
