Policy changes regarding sigs, avs, and URL use. Please review. [Archive]

Signatures:
Signatures are out of control. We must introduce a guideline. 200 pixels tall by 650 pixels wide is plenty. But, that includes your graphics AND any text.

If your entire sig does not fit into the box at the bottom of this post, it is TOO large.

Avatars:
Avatars are increasing to 150x150 immediately.

URL length:
A lot of people disable the graphics functions on this board. Using this setting changes a lot of your linked graphics to a clickable URL. Some of those URL's are extremely long. If you're using a ridiculously long URL to link to a picture, please visit www.tinyurl.com to downsize it into something manageable.

To illustrate how I've conformed to these 2 changes, right click the above image and choose properties. You'll see the tinyurl URL and that the graphic is 200x650.

I usually try to keep it about 200X500... mine's gonna be close. That 600 pixels extends my screen cause I'm on 800 x 600 though... and I like to sit far away from the computer and don't like everything so small, so before some nerd comes in and comments on it, I extend to that nerd a hearty "F you".

I'd say it's really close. Your flags are 50 and the video is 120. I think a line carriage is a little larger than 10 but you're so close nobody is going to say anything.

I just turned off sigs and it does load much faster. I would turn off the avis but I recognize you guys first by your avi. It kinda defines your character to me!!! :-(

BTW... Phil & mods ... I support you in this move. Most sigs are nice/funny/informative the first couple of times you see them but then they get old.

Actually, I've been downgraded to Vicodin, so it'd only be like $5.

DSL is $15 a month these days.
And my dial up is $5. Guess I could sell two pills and it'd be a wash. :)

Of course, that $15 doesn't include all the other services you have to get in order to get that "$15" price. In reality, it's like $40. Hell, we don't even have cable—we figured it wasn't worth it for the hour of TV we watch a day.

Should also have a file size limit. There are some that are over 2MB in size. We probably have lost potential members that are on dialup and lost interest waiting for the page to load completely.

A hack that would limit sigs to the first post by each user would also be nice.
