View Full Version : How many hours do kids really need to walk home?

Phobia

School lets out at 3:00, right? When I was a kid, the streets were empty of kids by 3:03.

It sure is a good thing school zone speeding tickets run through 4:30. Hell, if I saw evidence of one child around, chances are I'm gonna drop down to 25 with or without school zone signs. No kids, just a couple of protect and serve jackasses. Though, I'm not sure what in the hell they were protecting at 4:00.

Remember a couple weeks ago when I said it costs me more to leave the ****ing house than it does to hide out in the basement. That stands.

I should have tried to give the "peace officer" those game tickets. I'll bet he couldn't have wanted them, though.

They just passed a law in Oregon that sets the school zone speed at 20 24/7. Doesn't matter if it's summer, Sunday, etc.

Personally, I think that school zones should have a higher speed limit than other places.

Since they took away dodgeball, they need something to help them hone their reflexes.

I used to get 3 a year. I haven't gotten any since I started this job 2 years ago, even though I drive 10 times the amount of miles I used to.

It's amazing what driving the speed limit will do. :D

Slowing down in school zones is all swell and good and it works while they're at school, but teaching kids not to play in traffic works all day every day no matter where they are.

Yeah those can be irritating. Recently on the first few days of school a cop was siting at one of them to catch people speeding. Pretty annoying considering that if you dont have kids you would have no idea school started back. Plus the damn the school zone starts like an hour and half before school does so there are no kids in sight.

They also have school zones around here on large 4 lane divided roads. The have them up around high schools since I guess they are not old enough to not walk in front of traffic.

I dunno about 3:00. My kid's elementery school gets out at 3:30 here. But on the first day of school, my wife got a speeding ticket heading to the school. She slowed down in the school zone but sped up right at the end of the zone where you see the regular speed limit sign. She said the cops were snagging people left and right. That is kinda BS if you ask me. Then again, there are idiot drivers who don't pay attention or just plain ignore the zones. The cops should bust those types. They are the real danger.

Not sure where you live in KC, but I got a ticket yesterday in a school zone also. It was in KC North on Waukomis drive, right in front of Line Creek elementary school. There is a corner before you can see the school, so right as I go around the corner there is this dipshit cop standing in the road pointing his radar gun right at me. There are three cop cars on the side of the road, and they are just pulling people over one after another. They didn't even turn their lights on or anything, they just pointed you to the side of the road to line up behind the other cars that are getting tickets. On top of the speeding ticket, the dickwad gave me another ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.

Needless to say, I was furious.

Do they still have the school zones where the sign says, "When children present"? Like someone with no children would know when a particular school has children present...

The school zones here are reduced only when the lights are flashing.

My wife is a crossing guard at one of the elementary schools around here. At least once a week she tells me of someone who almost runs her over! This is at an intersection that is a 4 way stop to begin with in a residential area. If she has problems like this there, I don't even want to think what it must be like on a busier street.

Yea they do Phil, at least here in Cody they do. My daughter who was in 2nd grade last year choose to go to study hall M-Thur, which got out at 3:50pm.

fwiw, having driven the Bus for a couple of years, unfortunately most people could care less about school zones or crossing's.

Last year at least once a week, if not more often, I had people run the lights on the bus, or try and pass or million other dumb stunts. Hell I WISH our local PD would take more interest in enforcing the laws pertaining to school crossing and bus's.

All of the teachers at my school with kids in elementary are always griping about how much homework their kids have to do. After seeing the reads and responses, both ways(excluding the non-topic argument), it seems like the most likely answer can be found in the bible.

Render unto Caesar what is due to Caesar. In other words, Caesar says the speedlimit is X miles an hour, when you don't do the limit pay Caesar what is due him. (Cheesing your way out with Chiefs tickets can get you more than a fine.)

Think of it this way, you slow down you save the fines and after a time your car/truck/suv insurance goes down.

Just curious, Phil, is the inferiority complex/competition attitude you reference prevalent among the board "leadership" as it were and/or a majority of their regular posters, or is it a subset of dingbats? I know there's a subset of the population here I'd hate for outsiders to judge the board based on.
