Converting your vehicle to propane? (http://www.motherearthnews.com/top_articles/1972_May_June/Convert_Your_Car_To_Propane)

It may not be practical for fuel injected vehicles, but I’ve considered converting the Corveep to the ‘Pane for a couple of reasons.
1. It has a higher octane rating than anything available from the pump, and allows for higher compression (read more power).
2. Is cleaner burning than gas.
3. Because it’s a pressurized liquid up to the point it’s emulsified, vaporized and mixed with air, an engine running the stuff will run at any angle including up side down. Admittedly this means more for off road use than on.

The down side is gas is just plain cheaper and easier to get, though if prices keep climbing that may change.

Just food for thought.

originally Henry Ford wanted automobiles to be powered my alcohol, but Rockefeller had a different idea for a fuel source which would make him money. That of course is oil.

If we converted cars to propane, when we tailgate, we just drive in, pop the hood, lay down some burgers and brats...voila!!

Brilliant!!

I wonder if the "gas & go" attempts have risen lately

Doesn't propane come from oil too? I would think the cost of propane would rise as well, keeping it's pace ahead of gasoline.

No, but I have seriously stepped up my search for a used Metro. The wife travels 110 miles round trip to school, so this is killing us. Gotta get a car that gets 50 miles to the gallon.

What does propane cost? Is there any road tax on it?

I admit that I'm intrigued by the possibility that I could drive my car upside down.
