What I want to know is...what is the cheapest deal for getting set up with HD right now, and what is involved? Is the setup difficult or do I just plug the HD DVR in and it's ready to go?

Is your Tivo HD? The last I heard they were high dollar like $1000.

Er, no, but I guess I don't need that, just the HD receiver? And then the DirecTivo unit runs to the TV through the HD receiver? Or do I have it backwards?

go chiefs how do you like your tv? I was thinking of buying the same one tomorrow. You have to get a new satiellite dish and a hd receiver to see broadcast in hd, a off air antena is also helpfull for receiving local hd content.Direct tv has a package with all included installed for $299

I'm pretty much just interested in watching football in HD. Looking on DirecTV's website right now.

If have NFL sunday ticket disregard this. Check out Time Warners HD packages. They have HD-DVR for not much more per month and offer a decent amout of HD channels.

Otherwise you might be able to find a deal on the net for the Direct TV HD-Tivo.

Things may have changed over the past few months that I am not aware of but Direct TV's HD channel selection is a little weak.

This is the deal I got, and I love my HD Tivo. I had to upgrade mine though, I added a 400gb drive, which gives me 50 hours of HD and 337 hours of SD recording. Worth the $199 and 2 year contract IMHO.

If you just want a HD receiver, goto ebay and buy a Hughes HTL-HD. They are selling for $149, and are a great deal.

I got mine for 299 with a 100-dollar rebate from DTV last week.

Plus, they gave me 3 months of the HD package free, free hbo and showtime.

you wouldn't happen to know if that's the kind of DVR that has output ports that allow you to run it to your PC, do ya?

DT,

Where did you get the 400gb drive and can you mirror them?

PM me if you have a chance about it.

Thanks.

What about the dish? According to DTV's site I need another dish for HD, too.

Can I just get the dish from DTV?

You need an oval dish with 3 LNB's in order to get HD programming. Hd is on satellite 110. You DO need an HD Tivo to get HD programming. Judging from other posts, The HD Tivo has come WAY down in price. My company installs about 300 systems per month and we have yet to install an HD Tivo. Look at your dish and see if it has three little white things at the end of the arm. If it only has one, call Directv and they will update you for free but will make you sign a one year programming agreement (even if you already are under one).
