On related news, Brosnan calls for more sex and violence in Bond movies. Calls the "no nipples" policy pathetic.

No shit. I can't remember the last one I bothered to watch one. Ridiculous kiddie-video-game violence and hot women who never show anything. No thank you. :shake:

He should also tell producers to cut the the 'over the top' unbelievable CGI stuff.

More supermodels in thongs would be nice.

I prefer Brosnan’s Bond films. “Goldeneye” is my favorite Bond flick.

Now, I am willing to concede that it might simply be that I prefer modern filmmaking techniques.

I'm in a the CLEAR minority when I say that my favorite Bond was George Lazenby... and it's not any surprise, then, that my favorite Bond movie is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

I heard the other day that the producers wanted Lazenby back, but his agent told him it would be a bad idea -- he'd get stuck with the part and never do any meaningful films... yeah. I hope Lazenby fired him, since he's done so much since then.

Gaz

I did not think Lazenby carried off “Sophisticated Bond” very well.

Can we all agree that Roger Moore stunk it up?

Roger Moore was the man. Although he was pulling a Jerry Rice there towards the end.

Heck, I haven't even seen the last few in the theatre. In fact, I can't even recall ANY Bond movie I saw in the theatre.

The notion that Bond movies have somehow degraded in quality since 1962 is complete bullshit. If anything, they've improved.

Moore wasn't half as bad as Timothy Dalton (who I understand was offered the role before Lazenby, FWIW).

As much as I loved Moore in the old series, "The Saint," I hated him as Bond.

Timothy Dalton would have been better as a villain.

Instead he was...EVIL BOND! ROFL

I disagree. Non of the later Bond movies come close to the first four. And "From Russia With Love" was the all time best best in my book.

"Pussy Galore."

Also, the sequence in "Goldfinger" where they gas all the guys around Fort Knox is HORRIBLE. You won't see any action scene as bad as that one was in any of the recent Bond movies.

That was in Goldfinger and a character straight from Ian Fleming's book.

I am willing to entertain the proposition that the smirking, goofy version of Bond was not entirely Moore’s fault, but was imposed by the Producer or Director.

“Live and Let Die” and “Octopussy” were abominations.

Dalton came along when they were trying to "gritty" Bond up a bit. That, IMO, missed the whole point of the Bond concept.

Goldfinger was the fourth bond movie.

And who cares if it was from the book? It's still part of the cheesy Bond formula. There's nothing wrong with that. It's what makes the movies enjoyable.

Bond was sly from the beginning. A nod and a wink between the movie and the audience, acknowledging that it was all in fun. That is a LONG way from the smirking and goofy mindset of “Live and Let Die.”

Except when Bond would quip something funny maybe twice in an early movie, in the later ones his every other line would be an attempt at comedy. The former, is realistic with anybody with a dry sense of humor. The latter, has made the character into a clown.

Compare your examples to mine. Which ones are more doable in real life. Bond was meant to be just one or two steps less realistic than real life. Not a comic book.

Both are pretty outlandish and stupid, but still entertaining.

You can bet your sweet ass Sean Connery would have been driving an invisible car or something similar back in the 60s if they had the technology to make it look good.

Yes, but "For Your Eyes Only" was superb.

Moore wasn't bad. Waaay better than Dalton, and Lazenby isn't even worth discussing.

I do like Brosnan quite alot, but I've liked him quite alot since Remington Steele and everything since, so it's no surprise.

I do agree that Connery was better than Moore. I've got it as:

Connery = Brosnan

Both > Moore > Dalton > Lazenby

:spock:

Lazenby was in one movie, and frankly, it was a bad one. Not all of it was his fault. Everything was bad about it, from script to directing to everyone thing. Lazenby, unfortunately, takes the fall for it all.

Okay, if it makes you happy, I'll revise:

Both > Moore >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dalton = Lazenby

The producers of Bond said a couple of years ago that they were going PC so they made Bond monogamous. That ruined the franchise right there. Thats why guys go to see Bond : All the hot girls.

Mine:

Connery >> Brosnan > Dalton > Lazenby > Moore.

I like Roger Moore as an actor in other roles. He was to the Saint what Connery was to Bond, But he truely messed up Bond, and for too long.
