Shanahan Brings Back Running Back After Anderson, Bell Hurt
POSTED: 8:25 am MDT September 21, 2005
DENVER -- The Denver Broncos have re-signed former Oklahoma running back Quentin Griffin, bringing back last season's opening-day starter who was surprisingly released before this season began.
To make room for Griffin, the Broncos waived kickoff specialist Paul Ernster, a seventh-round draft pick who was inactive for last Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Denver also released former Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury from its practice squad.
Griffin was fourth on the depth chart in Denver's training camp. But he wound up on the list of Denver's final cuts because coach Mike Shanahan said he likely wouldn't see much playing time.
Things are different now with Mike Anderson struggling and former Oklahoma State Cowboy Tatum Bell questionable after hurting his ankle.
