Cell Phone numbers to be released to Telemarketers

JUST A REMINDER

Did you know that on October 1st, cell phone numbers will be released to
telemarketing companies and you will start to receive calls from telemarketers? YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!!

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:
888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT Call list operated by the
Federal Trade Commission. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. Pass this on to all of your friends.

I think the Nuge has been trying to take credit for it.

If you read that its complicated. And the snopes article has been around for awhile. Coming from the telecommunications business I know a little about how they market to the public.

The 411 can be used to do marketing in the future. There is nothing in there that says it will never be used or sold as a marketing list. It says there is no plans to do that at the present time.

This is not an urban myth. The phone number is the real government do not call list. Won't hurt anything to get your cell on the list. You will burn up a mintue of your cell time. No biggie

And another thing you will see in much more wide spread use is the random dialer.

Computer picks a number at random and uses a pre recorded spiel once the call is answered.

Perfectly legal to call people with that tool. Said to be adding cell phones to that list also.

I nearly forgot (I hope you haven't left on your ass beating trip yet)....

Boozer is one of them lawyer types. Instead of beating his ass, you might just want to empty your bank account, pack up everything you own, and go set it all on his front lawn.

Same result, except no cast on your right hand for 6 weeks this way.

I don't know after dominating Boozer I believe I will go on an expedition in the space between your desk and wall. Looking for checks and money and other assorted bullion.

I actually have a set schedule of a wide range of activites the spectrum goes frombeating the crap of CP members to annoying them in real life.

Where do you get this shit? No, using a random dialer doesn't get you through some loophole, and no, telemarketers can't call you on your cell phone.

I think some on this thread are over estimating the kind of scrilla they would recieve from the selling of my posessions.

I hope you clipped some coupons.

Guess you had to be there.

Just FYI, the FCC prohibits anyone calling a cell phone using an automatic dialer. So even though market research firms are exempt from the no-call list, we aren't allowed to call cell phones if we're using automated dialers, which nearly all survey firms do.

So if you get a survey call on your cell phone, it's either a mistake or it's someone using really old equipment.

In fact, a 411 directory should result in fewer calls to cell phones, because now the calling list can be scrubbed against it to eliminate accidental calls.

Take it like a man.

If this ever were to happen you'd only experience one one-THOUSANDTH of the suffering you've caused others while doing stupid $#it on a cell phone.

It's universal, just like losing 100 IQ points while ordering food over the phone. Doesn't matter who, everyone is the same.

Actually, you're on our own industry's "do not call" list. We just don't think you have much to offer.

Most cell phone plans have 1st incoming minute free. A minute should be all you need to hang up on anyone that tries to sell you something.

Or just don't answer your GOD DAMN PHONE. I don't see why people have such a hard time doing this. If its important, they will leave a voice mail.

I don't want telemarketers leaving me messages, I won't know whether it's important or not and the only way to find out is to listen to it, which leads to spent minutes...

When is the last time a telemarketer has left you a message? They don't. I'm pretty sure they are not allowed to.

Well, I don't have a cell yet but plan on getting one in the near future, and while everyone seems to be making good points on the subject I don't see the harm in calling the number just to be safe. Thanks for the tip. :thumb:
