Conclusion - Even though our defensive numbers are not incredible, We have improved a little bit and should get better in passing defense with Warfield and Surtain playing Man to Man coverage. Once the defense gels by week 9 I think they will finish strong.

Also comparing the last 2 years of G. ROb and the first 1 1/4 of Gun's you can tell how the RUN has been stuffed. The pass has been the same, and the takeaways have not been there for Gun.

GRob sucked, but you can't deny that we forced more turnovers with him at the helm.

they will need a strong finish....the bottom line is those rankings won't get you in the playoffs.

I'm thinkin' Warfield will be a man on a mission...much like Eddie K.

Pathetic.

I don't see much of a difference. No pass rush, receivers running unchecked through the secondary and biting on play fakes like it's mom's apple pie.

Despite what some may think, it's been going on all four games.

#7 vs. the run :hmmm:

Our _efense will not improve much to make a difference without improvement from our D-line. I see more of the same old $hit now. Losing Sims absolutely crippled our D-line.

The biting on play fakes is what drives me crazy. That is the most basic of defensive fundamentals.

#7 vs. the run :hmmm:Just in time for Portis coming off the first game he's looked like Portis since he came to Washington.

How many spots can a team drop in one week?

looks like a consistent pattern of sucking to me

:deevee:

I don't think I've ever wanted the Chiefs to stop another running back so badly.

We will stop Portis.

I think we hold Portis to less than 90. Just my gut feeling.

I think we'll stop Portis too. It seems like the only big running play we have allowed in 4 games was the "stunt" mistake that allowed Mike Anderson to break free. I think our run defense is solid. The problem is, our pass D still sucks. But while we work to improve that, we have to make sure we continue to stop the run. I also think our D will begin to show real improvement by the second half of the season, unlike the last few years.

We will stop Portis.

I'm less concerned about Portis and more concerned about what kind of day Santana Moss is going to have.

Well, I hope we do well:

C. Martin - (285 yards 2.7 pc 57.0 pg) vs Chiefs - 57 yards, 2.85 pc
L. Jordan - (274 yards 3.7 pc 68.5 pg) vs Chiefs - 59 yards 3.93 pc
M. Anderson - (301 yards 4.1 pc 60.2 pg) vs Chiefs - 98 yards, 4.9 pc
B Westbrook (231 yards 4.2 pc 46.2 pg) vs Chiefs - 15 yards, 1.66 pc
C. Portis - (366 yards 4.4 pc 91.5 pg) vs Chiefs - Hold him under 100 yards - we win by 10. (20-10)

I'm not making any predictions about Moss, but I think you're right on the money with that one.
We will probably stop Portis.. but what about S. Moss.

Also, teams that get their run deffense down, statistically don't they start to show improved pass D shorty thereafter? Who was it here that was studying all of those statistics and made the coorelation between 1st and 2nd down defense being a predictor of eventual good 3rd down defense? I think that goes along with what I'm saying..

The stats that matter will be the ones available at the conclusion of week 17.

I know keg, just not sure if I will survive until week 17... I watched the whole game on MNF and I stayed for the whole game vs Philly, not sure how many of thos I can endure... My CP posting has been down as well...

All I'm saying is that the first four weeks might be representative of what's to come. Or they might not.

My guess is that they won't, that we'll get better as all the new pieces get more comfortable working together. But it's only a guess.

I agree. I gotta believe that having Warfield back in the mix is gonna change our philosophy in the secondary. No more of this zone stuff on every play.

Post #1 mentions that... week 9 will be the turning point, I think we will be 5-3 or 4-4 at that point

oh,yeah...that was like 20 posts ago. I can barely remember the last two or three.

If we are at least 5-3 after week 9, the playoff are in reach. If not, I think we're in trouble. I don't see this as being the type of team to overcome early season adversity. Not enough bonded personalities yet.

n00b... the #1 post is always the header as well... :p

Welcome to CP and hope you enjoy... I think you are right... 5-3 (4-4 at worst) should be our goal after games in Florida (we never win), and in San Diego.
