By Chris Vivlamore | Saturday, October 15, 2005, 11:34 AM

Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier died early Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack. He was 28.

Collier experienced chest pains and his wife performed CPR and called 911.

Hawks players were notified of Collier’s death at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning before a scheduled workout was cancelled.

Collier, who played at Georgia Tech, was the longest tenured Hawk player, joining the team for the 2003-04 season after spending three seasons in Houston.

Very shocking new out of Atlanta. As a diehard Purdue fan I saw him play several times and was actually glad to see him make the NBA. It's scary to see all these athletes dying so young. :( Thoughts and prayers with his familey and the Hawks.

28's awfully young for a heart attack! I wonder if there were any drugs (performance-enhancing or otherwise) involved?

Holy crap almost makes me wanna eat healthier and excercise, almost. But I guess this guy was in shape too which makes it even weirder and scarier.
