To see something truly amazing:

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY (mms://a1503.v115042.c11504.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/11504/v0001/mlbmls.download.akamai.com/11504/2005/open/topplays/archive10/101505_sjelag_derosario_goal_384.wmv)

It was cool from the San Jose section last night - we were at the opposite end of the field, near the goal line, on the side of the field DeRo took the shot from. So, we actually had an unbelievable view of the shot, pretty much the angle they show in the final replay in the game where you see the shot bend right around the wall and go into the upper corner. In the section right next to us, all of the Galaxy fans even went "oooohhhh".

COO-UHL!!!

Sure hope the Wizards thing gets sorted out. Went to the Price Chopper free ticket game, which was neat. Arrowhead is much too large a venue, but where else can the play in town, smart-ass answers aside?

Arrowhead is much too large a venue, but where else can the play in town, smart-ass answers aside? That's pretty much the big problem, in addition to the fact that the Wizards play a less-than-sizzling brand of ball.

I'm a Quakes fan (which made the DeRo magic and the LAndycakes-thrashing Saturday night all the more sweet), and the thing that instantly made me a fan was the fact that they play beautiful soccer, especially this year. The passing, the pace... it's all there.

Spartan Stadium is a dump, and like Arrowhead, not well-suited for soccer (or anything, for that matter). But it's a 30,000-seat stadium, so even with some of the lowest attendance averages in the league (due to the stadium, the ownership situation, and the absolutely non-existent marketing, largely), the place is very festive and the fans are vocal even when crowds are as low as 10,000. And when the place is packed for games against the Galaxatives, there's almost no better atmosphere in the league aside from DC (Barra Brava/Screaming Eagles) and Chicago (Section 8 does an awesome job, and when Bridgeview opens next year, it's going to be off the hook like a party with juice).

I truly hope SJ and KC keep their teams, find good local ownership, and get sparkling new soccer-specific stadiums that at least meet the standards of Crew Stadium and Pizza Hut Park, if not the dazzling Home Depot Center and Bridgeview; and I'm not just saying that because it would really, really suck to see the Quakes be wiped out, though it would.

That is impressive; at least an 8' bend on that sucka.

Only 3 men on the wall (or should I say fencepost?)...and none of them jumped up when the ball was struck: That's piss poor!

Only 3 men on the wall (or should I say fencepost?)...and none of them jumped up when the ball was struck: That's piss poor! The wall was fine. They had the goal blocked off, and jumping wouldn't have made the slightest difference. This was an absolutely PERFECT banana-shot that rippled the air in its wake.

Speaking of fun goals, here's one from Mr. Adu (mms://a1503.v115042.c11504.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/11504/v0001/mlbmls.download.akamai.com/11504/2005/open/topplays/archive10/100505_dcursl_adu_goal_384.wmv). Totally different kind of goal, but pretty impressive nonetheless.
