View Full Version : Should we go easy on the Bills?

Just a hypothetical, sort of tounge in cheek question...

..but the Bills need to lose to the Chiefs next week, then beat the Chargers the following week. The Chargers' bye week will probably find them well rested and raring to go, so I think the Chiefs should rely more on the passing game next week. This will allow the Bills to stay stronger up front and be more equipped to handle Tomlinson.

Am I crayzeeee for thinking this way? I dunno.

I'd like to see more of Kennison, Hall and Gonzo anyway... and I'm not suggesting we lose the run game altogether. I like the short pass to Hall or L. Johnson, and the run potential after the catch.

We need to embarass them. That way they'll be playing with more intensity to save face against the Chargers.

We are not good enough to take a week off on ANYONE!

Didn't say take a week off... just thought we might take a more artful passing approach. Beating them up and injuring their defensive line like we sometimes do, well that might backfire the following week. Win at all cost, for sure. Still, if we destroy their defensive line it will only bode well for Tomlinson the following week.

Buffalo is the 31st ranked rush defense (yards/game). They are 32nd ranked in terms of yards/carry. Meanwhile, they are the number 1 ranked pass defense and have given up on 6 TDs through the air (compared with 13 on the ground). I think your gameplan idea sucks. Nothing personal.

Yeah, I'm just not following your reasoning at all.

Wow you're just as insane with your football picks as you are with your politics :p The Bills may not scare anybody but Buffalo is still a tough place to play. Stick with the game plan if we build a substantial lead late in the game take out the starters but I don't think you take it easy on anybody in this league.

Let me caveat this with some tangible stats for everyone to chew on:

Chiefs (5-3) @ Bills (3-5) Stat Comparison

BUF pass O: 130 ypg (30) vs KC pass D: 261 ypg (31)…wash
BUF rush O: 127 ypg (8) vs KC rush D: 95 ypg (8)…wash
BUF scoring: 16 ppg (26) vs KC D: 21 ppg allowed (22)…slight Chiefs advantage

KC pass O: 228 ypg (10) vs BUF pass D: 157 ypg (1)…Bills advantage
KC rush O: 129 ypg (7) vs BUF rush D: 151 ypg (31)…Chiefs advantage
KC scoring: 24.5 ppg (8) vs BUF D – 19 ppg allowed (17)…wash due to homefield

Bills 3 wins: Texans, Phins, and Jets. Rush defense is horrendous. But...

Bills Pass D is #1; 9 INTs and 19 sacks.

Regardless of yesterday's comeback (and it was GLORIOUS!), our offense is still flaccid and we're still beat up. The Chiefs MUST find their offensive legs now.

One good thing about the Chiefs not having a chance for the playoffs, SportsWax was never anywhere near ChiefsPlanet.

He only shows up when the team has a chance. What do call that kind of a fan?

Yup, run, run, and then run some more is what that says to me.

The Chiefs have no control whatsoever with how the Bills or the Chargers will play the following week. Changing our game plan to try and dictate the outcome of someone else's game the following week makes about as much sense as Paris Hilton teaching Calculus III.

Let's focus on what we have control over.... beating the shit out of the Bills and giving our team more momentum and confidence.

Buffalo's pass defense is obviously a mirage. Teams are running on them at will.

I would agree, but I don't see any reason to innovate when the blueprint for offensive success is available to us. We too, should run on them at will.

If the Chiefs want to be a playoff winning team, they should not be worrying, at this point in the season about who wins and the math of getting to the playoffs. Halfway in they still hold all the cards and controll where they end up (for the most part, they probably aren't catching Indy).
The Chiefs still get everyone ahead of them coming to Arrowhead. The playoffs start in 3 weeks.

 Go easy on a team that stands in our way? In no way is this upcoming game a gimmee. We need to give our all EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY game, including the one in Buffalo, suggesting otherwise is laughable.

Interesting thought; IOW, much like the reason most teams pass against the Chiefs?

Here's a stat breakdown of all of Buffalo's losses:

RUSH/YDS COMP/ATT YDS
TB 40/193 16/22 136 73%

ATL 36/236 15/27 167 55%

NO 41/167 15/26 172 58%

OAK 37/162 19/27 261 70%

NE 22/93 14/21 199 67%

Hmmm...you may have a point.

Add strength of schedule in there and you have another Chiefs advantage.

Let's not get over confident in this game. Every game is huge for us now. We don't have any margin for error. Cincy, J-Ville and Pittsburgh all have very soft schedules so we must win and keep winning. We need to prepare for them as if they were 8-0.

I was here for some pretty frustrating times, actually. Truthfully, I wasn't posting here because I thought this BB had died long ago. I sort of "rediscovered" it by accident doing a random search. To my surprise, when I put my old log in from the Kansas City Star's old Chiefs board, I was back in the mix. Same old log in works on the HBO ITNFL site where you make the weekly picks. That's not as much fun, though.

Back to my ridiculous hypothetical...

You don't think it sort of negates a victory over the Bills next week, if the Chargers come off the Bye and beat 'em too? We'll be one game up on 'em if we do complete the win, but they gain it back if Buffalo comes up lame the next week.

I know it will probably happen that way despite my flawed hypothesis, but would no one else love to see us toast the ballyhooed pass defense of the Bills? Where's the fun in crippling an enemic Run D, and making it that much easier for Tomlinson?

I know, I know. Dead Horse.
