For the second consecutive year, wide receiver David Boston will end a season with the Dolphins on injured reserve.
The Dolphins made that roster move Tuesday, nine days after Boston re-injured his surgically repaired left knee in a 21-6 victory over New Orleans.
Boston flashed some of his talent in that game with a 54-yard reception, but problems with both knees ever since he re-signed with the Dolphins in May prevented him from being a bigger contributor in both games and practices. Boston missed all of the 2004 season after tearing his patella tendon during a preseason practice session with the Houston Texans.
The Dolphins re-signed Cliff Russell to take Boston's roster spot. A four-year NFL veteran who has played with Washington and Cincinnati, Russell was signed in mid-October and released six days later.
Also, cornerback Will Poole will be ineligible to return for the rest of the 2005 season after the Dolphins didn't activate him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list by today's 4 p.m. NFL deadline. Poole required reconstructive knee surgery after getting injured during a May minicamp practice.
The Dolphins still have one week to decide whether they will activate cornerback Shirdonya Mitchell to the 53-man roster. A college free agent from Missouri, Mitchell injured his knee during a pre-draft workout and is currently on the team's reserve/non-football injury list. Mitchell began practicing with the Dolphins two weeks ago.
