I'm thinkin' it would have something to do with where your nose has been, and what you were doing with it there prior to the smelling of said booger.

I didn't know that they smelled, but they taste funny and are rather slimy going down.

If you're sick they stink pretty bad. But you won't notice because they're inside your nose.
