I've been working doubles this past week, got out a little early last night so I checked out what I had recorded, and lo, "My Name is Earl" has a couple of new episodes... "Joy's Wedding" documents Joy's wedding to Darnell, aka Crabman, and I about gave birth from laughter.

Folks... I'm convinced Earl lives in Independence...

Initially, I agree. Then I watched The Office and about had a cat.

Could you imagine if NBC bought Arrested Development, and programmed Must See Thursday with Earl, Office, AD, Scrubs and ER?

Agreed on this being the best MNiE yet. It was a great episode, even by the nice standards the show already had.

Could you imagine if NBC bought Arrested Development, and programmed Must See Thursday with Earl, Office, AD, Scrubs and ER?I have, and I'm firmly convinced it would be the most amazing thing EVER.

If NBC did that, I could kiss them on the balls.

Yeah, I did learn that on the streets, . . . actually, in the ghetto. . .

I liked last week's episode of Earl. Scamming that kid our of free drinks was genious.

The Smokey and the Bandit car was a nice touch as well.

How should I have my chicken, grilled or McNuggeted? If I check 'McNuggeted' do you think they'd let me have two different dippin' sauces? I like hot mustard for the first bite but I like to chase it with a little honey on the second bite. You know, it's like havin' a small meal followed by a tiny desert every 10 to 15 seconds!

Spoiler from TV Guide

HYSTERICAL DEVELOPMENT: Leave it to Arrested Development to mine the tragedy of its imminent death for laughs. Per Variety, series creator Mitch Hurwitz is planning an episode that will poke fun at Fox's decision to reduce the show's episode order from 22 to 13, effectively canceling it. In the episode, titled "S.O.B." for "Save Our Bluths," the Bluth clan considers throwing a fund-raiser to save their construction company from shutting down. In one scene, Jason Bateman's Michael notes, "Our backs are against the wall.... It's just hard for me to accept that it's really come to begging." There's even a conversation about whether the Home Builders Organization — HBO — might be willing to come to their rescue. That idea is quickly nixed though, leading George Sr. to say, "I guess it's Showtime. We'll put on some kind of show at the [fund-raiser]." Meanwhile, after reading this item on TVGuide.com, the American public released the following statement: "Huh? I don't get that last joke. I told you this show was dumb."

I haven't been commited to a sitcom in ages, and with the increase of reality TV, I've pretty much stopped watching TV all together and started working on my porno site. Errrr...how did that get in there?

try the BBC version. Two 6 episode seasons, 6 hours total, and a 2 hr f/u special. It is superior in the sense that it's some of the funniest, saddest, most schadenfreudelly painful footage ever put to print. But the NBC version is a superior americanized adaption in it's own right.
The BBC version is This is Spinal Tap, crossed with Office Space, as played by Oliver and Hardy, in the British suburbs.

NBC seems to be pretty pleased with it. There has been rumors they might try to move it to Thursday, but who knows.

I like last week's golfer episode the best I think... although the show as a whole has gotten better since the pilot.

Great news... at least I think, for fans of both "Earl" and "The Office". Jenna Fischer of 'The Office' is reporting on her blog that starting January 6th, NBC is moving both shows to Thursday night as part of the whole "Must See TV" lineup.

Apparently, "Joey" is getting whacked... or moved, I don't know which. Will and Grace and a new show called "Four Kings" will be at 8 and 8:30, followed by Earl/The Office starting at 9, then ER at 10. I'm excited NBC is this confident in both shows, but that's gonna be quite a task going up against the shows in that timeslot.

Arrested Development is MUCH better than My Name Is Earl.AD is MUCH better than anything on the air...

I like MNIE, but it does piss me off a little that Sheer Brilliance Lite™ (Earl) is wildly successful right off the bat while Sheer, Unmitigated Brilliance™ (Office) and Most Brilliantly Brilliant Sheer Brilliance EVAR™ (AD) struggle to find viewers.

Not as much as the success most of the utter tripe on television, but it's annoying, nonetheless.

MNIE is like the quasi-AD; it's a similar style, but with less engaging, less likable characters, less entertaining plots, less snappy dialogue, and less humorous humor.

Basically, it's good, but not as good. Yet it's lapped up by the masses, while the forerunner/MASTER flounders.

It takes a sort of realization to get the humor of the office. The humor is in the supposition that the characters are not trying to be funny, but are 'being themselves' in a documentary-like setting.

Exactly, it's not typical sitcom "punchline" funny most of the time. I can see why it's so hard for people to watch. You really have to pay attention... I record every episode and go back and watch it a 2nd time and usually see something I totally missed the first time, there are so many little subtle things they put in there, it's really clever.

Like a few episodes back where Dwight was talking about how his grandpa was such a hero in World War II, did all this stuff, then spent the rest of the war in an Allied prison camp. Went right over my head. One of the funniest lines of the whole series.

It's the EXACT same format. Following them around, fly on the wall, confessional interviews, no laugh track.

Like I said, the humor is in the sincerity of the characters. If the boss tells a joke, and it's a crappy joke, the scene is still funny because we can relate to an authority figure cracking a crappy joke in real life and the uncomfortable situation it produces.
If some dude is asleep at his desk in the distant background, that's funny not because the guy is acting like someone who is sleeping, but because we can identify with the guy so bored with his work he feels free to catch some Zs.
