Couldn't find last year's thread to pull up so I started another on.

Currently, Clinton's Red Tornadoes are undefeated and play in the OK State 4A quarter-finals this next Saturday. We play Glenpool next which could be our toughest game of the season. (none have been tough so far).

How are your highschool team doing?

My team is in the regional quarters in the PA AA playoffs. We won districts last week 35-0 at the #1 seed's (and prior undefeated) house (we were #2). So cold your nipples could cut glass (dropped to about 25 during the game). That's PA football baby!

We play Lancaster Catholic this Friday closer to our house than to theirs so hopefully we'll have a bigger representation (I know I'll be in full throat).

By the way, the team we beat last week beat the Mt Carmel Red Tornadoes the week before in the first round of districts.

They should be required to give up the name Red Tornado for losing to a team that got beat so badly.

We are 2 games away from winning our 3rd State Championship in a row. Next year, due to "enrollment" we will be bumped down to 3A. They might as well mail us the State Championship Trophy in Sept then. Basically I think there were more 4A schools voting than 3A schools and the 3A Schools got stuck with us.

We're 1-9. We haven't had a winning record since 1992. Gives you an idea of the kind of school I went to. Oh, sure, we'll win girls basketball, soccer, volleyball, and swimming championships, but never anything useful like football. Although we have won about 5 state championships in hockey since I left school

Actually, Mt Carmel is a traditional power around here. Won a few state titles in a row a couple years back themselves. They were very young this year and couldn't stop Towanda's running game.

Our defense is stout. As long as we don't run into anyone who likes to throw quick passes, we'll be in good shape. Our front 7 are frightening.

Maybe not for long though. I hear that Boone County R-IV Schools tried to pass some taxes (Property tax increase I believe) to get a football team going. Not sure the results though.

The town I moved from in KS is playing decent. A buddy of mine thinks they could beat our Red Tornadoes. I told him he just doesn't understand. Football is a Friday night in the fall thing to them, it's 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year hear. We've won 13 state championships and played in over half of the state championship games in the last 40 years. Basketball doesn't mean much here, and HS Track??? What's that. But Football is serious!

Pennsylvania

"My" high school is actually the high school in the school district I teach in. I teach in the middle school, but I had a lot of the kids on the team in class when they were kids (Mostly sophomores and freshmen, but a few of the juniors).

Montoursville High School. Mike Mussina is our most famous grad, but we had Kelly Mazzante (women's basketball player) too. It's also the school that lost 21 people on a Spanish Club trip on TWA flight 800.

Right now, we've got a defensive end, who if he would actually try in class, could be a starter some day in D1.

My old high school, Caesar Rodney, has been a perennial playoff team here in Delaware for 30 years, with a couple of state titles.

This year, however, they suck the ass. I stopped paying attention about week 5, but I think they went 4-6.

My team went 4-6. Still rebuilding from my senior year's team. My "other" school, actually the neighbor school, is playing for the state championship. Figures bc they are one of the state's 10 best programs ever.

Ah, what the hell. I'm going for a cruise down Memory Lane, and you can't stop me.

Greatest game I ever saw here was Caesar Rodney-Dover High, 1977. Last game of the year, huge nasty long time rivalry, both teams undefeated. Just an electric atmosphere for weeks around here with these two on a collision course.

Dover had Mike Meade, who would go on to Penn State and the NFL with Green Bay and Detroit. 200+ yards almost every game, he was just a man among boys. CR's kids somehow held him to 40 or 50 yards, scored early and held on. And on. Every time Meade touched the ball we held our breath, but he never did break one. We win 6-0.

Both teams made the state Div. I playoffs (only 4 teams qualified then), CR lost in triple overtime to Newark, then Dover, with Meade going apeshit again, beat Newark for the title.

Yeah, I know its was a rough one - isn't their QB going to Notre Dame ? OR am I just reading highschool stories and getting confused.

I don't think anyone in the KC area and few in the nation will argue with the athletic success of Rockhurst in a range of sports through the years.

If I remember correctly, they were part of the 1st televised highschool game on ESPN back in the 80's.

Plus, I enjoy hearing the sour grapes from people that are determined to convict them of recruiting or cheating to get players!?

Ya, he is signed on to go to Notre Dame.

Rock has a great sports program no doubt but I cant remember the last time they made waves in baseball or basketball...never done much in wrestling...swimming...can't seem to notch a title in soccer. Blue Springs was the last KC team to get a state soccer title.

we sucked 2-7..New coach came up from middle school, and our old coach didnt care if you lifted weights or not so my HS is way behind. When I was a senior in 04 we went 5-4 losing in the first round 10-0. We sucked last year too like 3-6. But we had Conway Springs (state champs every year I was in HS) Garden Plain (runner-up state champs senior year).

Zach - I thought they had 1 or 2 soccer titles i think over the past decade. I know they have back to back football titles and maybe 1 more over that time, and pretty much are a lock for Golf & Tennis. They also compete in Hockey, Lacrosse, and Rugby which is outside the Missouri HS sports assoc, and do pretty damn well. They and Aquinas were ranked in the top 10 for a while in soccer. I tried to find more online - just the blurb below.

As for baseball - they should improve, David Cone is getting pretty hands on from what I've heard.

Wrestling and Swimming Coaches are pretty weak - at least they were last I checked.

Rockhurst claimed eight Missouri state titles and 36 district championships in the last ten years while competing with the largest schools in the state, as well as schools across the Midwest.

Thanks to Cone's donation the new baseball field and football stadium is sweet. They had field turf before any of the area's surrounding Universities. (KU, MU, NU, KSU, etc)

No soccer titles...I am aware of the good work in those other sports with limited other teams playing.

Since '98 BS has 2 titles in football (2), wrestling, baseball, cross country, and swimming. With a 2nd place showing in basketball not too long ago. 3 of those teams being nationally ranked.

Just had to throw some fire in the rivalry. I think the only school that could even talk in the same league as the two programs is Liberty. And thats a stretch.

The current district is such a powerhouse as it is. Its a shame that between Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Liberty, and Oak Park only one team advances past the first round.

Indeed, there were whispers a few years back about a BS\Jenks game but it didnt materialize.

I always got a few laughs when Olathe North wouldn't play us during the long run they had not losing any games. Even when they had Sproles they worked hard to try and get a game but ON seemed to like the perfect record they amassed slapping around the idiot Kansas teams.

They ended up agreeing to playing a JV game and when we were beating them in the second half they took Sproles away from practice...suited him up and put him in the game. Needless to say he ran all over the defense. I found the whole situation pretty comical overall.

Just thought I'd pull this up and report that the high school from my district won it's playoff game tonight. Twenty degree temps, it was football weather! We beat Lancaster Catholic 27-21 coming up with an interception at the goal line with 20 ticks left to thwart a late surge by Catholic. We actually led 27-14 with about 3 minutes left, but they got the ball back on a punt and were able to drive down and score with a nice and efficient no-huddle, then recovered the onside kick (looked like out of bounds, but oh well). They drove down to about our 6 but a pass to the goal line was tipped and one of our kids was in the right place at the right time.

We play Wilson Area next weekend in the Pennsylvania Class AA Eastern Final.

First year of the high school exsistence last year they went to the quarter finals of the state championship.

Just got back from the OK State 4A Semi-Finals. We were worried in the first half, Glenpool ran all over us on the first couple series and we went into the lockerroom down 14-0 at half time. We came out of the lockerroom at the second half, and within 5 minutes had tied the game. We went on to get the W 24-14.

Best High School game I've ever seen.

Next week we play a team that got beat by this team about a month ago for the State 4A Championship.

Our next game is versus Wilson Area from Easton, PA. We play in Hazleton, PA next Saturday. Not sure what time the game is though. From the way it looks, Wilson likes to run the ball (as do we). It should all come down to who's run D is better.

Tradition is huge here. There are kids playing who's dads and some with grandfathers have played in Championship games. Over the last 40 years we have played in 21 State Championship games and won 13. We have a great program with a HC in his early to mid 50s with no desire to go anywhere else.

Interesting tidbit about OK 5A State Tourny. Shawnee QB, Tucker Brown (Star QB BTW & Coach's son), kicked a Booker T player, was ejected from the game, and was also handed a 2 game suspension, which would take him out of the remaining State Playoff games. Shawnee went to the District Court and the Judge said the QB could play. OSSAA has taken the case to the State Supreme court and has refused to play Shawnee next game until the Supreme Court hears and has the oportunity to overturn the District Court's decision to let the QB play.

The Link below has a video of the story...

http://newsok.com/video/1690196/

Article:
-----------------------------------------------------------
A high school football playoff game was postponed Friday to give a statewide school group more time to appeal a judge's decision to reinstate a quarterback who was suspended for kicking another player in an earlier contest.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association postponed Saturday's Class 5A state semifinal football game between Shawnee High School and East Central High School, executive director Danny Rennels said.

The OSSAA said in a statement it plans to appeal Pottawatomie County District Judge Paul Vassar's temporary injunction preventing the group from enforcing its suspension policy against Shawnee quarterback Tucker Brown, Rennels said.

Brown, son of Shawnee coach Billy Brown, was ejected during the Nov. 19 quarterfinal playoff game between Shawnee and Booker T. Washington after kicking an opposing player.
Click here to find out more!

Vassar issued the injunction on Wednesday. State courts were closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday and the earliest an appeal can be filed is Monday, the group said.

Rennels could not be immediately reached for comment on when the game may be rescheduled.

Brown was ejected with 19 seconds left in the Wolves' 14-10 victory.

According to OSSAA rules, any player ejected must sit out at least two weeks.

Brown was kneeling while trying to run out the clock when Tulsa Washington's Jermaine Holmes jumped offside and over the offensive line. He grabbed Brown by the helmet and pulled him to the ground. Brown responded by kicking Holmes.

In testimony at Wednesday's court hearing, the OSSAA said Billy Brown did not dispute that his son kicked an opposing player but questioned the integrity of the officiating crew. Allegations that the officials were improperly influenced were investigated and rejected, OSSAA said.

The group said allowing an ineligible player to participate in a game could result in the game being forfeited.

My high school won state 4A Utah (mountaincrest)
and one of our rival teams 20 minits away (Logan) droped down to 3A and they also won state, two out of three winners from our valley, we only have 3A 4A and 5A in our state. My high school has only been around for 21 years and this is their 3rd state championship.
My wife Is from a small town in Idaho 2A (West side) and they also won state but their is a huge difference in the caliber of team and competition up their not as many kids to pick from.

Well it's official. Clinton is the 2005 Oklahoma 4A State Champ. That's their 14th State championship in the last 40 years. Also, it's 3 in a row and 5 in the last 6 years. There are a lot of starters that are SO and JRs so they should be competitive for the next several years.

We were bumped from 4A down to 3A this year, which seems a bit ridiculous since we have won 3 state championships in a row and 5 championships in the last 6 years.

Anyhow, we started off a bit rough. Are kids almost seemed like they expected to walk out on the field and the W would be handed to them. They barely beat the neigboring town's 4A team on the season opener - went to 4 OTs to do it. Let the other neigboring town's 4A team hang around the entire game the next week but pulled out the W. Then, a 2A team came into our place and beat us at home to end a 84 game home winning streak. (Story of the loss below). The loss actually did our kids good going into district play. They have out and out throttled the two teams they have played since. Two weeks ago the won 35-17 with the points by the other team coming against our JVs and last week they won 48-7 with the other team's 7 coming in the last second against our Freshmen squad.

The story on our loss...

We should have put the team away in the 2nd quarter. We are a much better team than they were. So, what is following is complaint for sure, but we should have put the team away in the first half and didn't. However, our kids still seemed to struggle with the attitude mentioned above. The let this team hang around the entire game. Then with 3-4 minutes left to go, we drove down to their 20. The Refs get involved and start seeing invisible penalties. Drove us back to the 50 with penalties. Finally, we had to punt.

Refs help them down the field. They ended up scoring and were now 1 point behind with about 1:30 to go. They go for two. We could see where we were at that their player was way short but the ref on the other side of the field (and pile) ran in and signaled good. Our HC reviewed the film over the weekend and showed the boosters where the kid's helmet - not the where he was carrying the ball but his helmet - was stopped at the 2 yd line. The kid was interviewed on the radio the next day and was asked, "How does it feel to score the winning points to beat a Powerhouse like Clinton on their home field. The kid replied, "I really don't know. I didn't get in, the refs just gave it to me."

Our O's last attemt ended on a 4th down pass that was caught and our player tackled 1 yard past the first down marker. The refs called it short. One of our players pointed out his error (which was wrong for the player to do mind you) and they hit us with a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty - and marked it off from one yard beyond the first down marker.

Our HC the following week cancelled the school's contract with the refing agency that hires/sends refs. When he was asked about having to pay the remaining 2 years he told the board if the agency asks for that, he'll show them the tape of the game. It was litteraly THE MOST BIASED officiating I have ever seen.

Like I said, our guys should have handled this team easily and been 28 points up on them by halftime and weren't. It should have never been in the refs hands with 3 min to go. But it is still frustrating.

We are 4-1 and Clinton has lost 2x since I moved to town 3 years ago (the other loss came at the hands of the 5A state champs at their field early in the year - we beat them the next year).

I'm coaching a high school team for the first time this year. Though my emphasis is ont he freshman O and D-linemen. Our freshman team has not been doing so great. Our varsity has been playing out of their class, and losing a lot, but now that we are beginning to play within our class should get some wins, and go to the state playoffs for the first time in over 20 years.

The weird thing is that our homecoming game is against the high school I graduated from.

How much speed training are you doing? I've been told that working with kids to teach them technique to help them run faster isn't focused on too much in most high schools, but our coach does and it makes a real difference here.

I've been on the OK hs message boards and people will say we have so and so who is really fast, I think we can beat Clinton and players from OTHER TEAMS that have played us have corrected them and told them, "You have a fast player, everyone Clinton has is fast."

We have VERY FEW kids go on to play football in college because of the lack of size. Speed, attitude, and our HC make the difference.

Of course, working with the line... I'm just trying to teach them the difference between a 1 and a 3 at this point.

If you keep working with them and turn them into a good team the math teacher will fix the grades for you so you don't have to worry about that stuff.

Here you go, I'll help you out...

One is what the kicker gets for kicking the ball through the goal posts AFTER a TD.

Three is what the kicker gets for kicking the ball through the goal posts when there was no TD scored just prior to him kicking it.

Lest you forget Lee's Summit West.

First year of the high school exsistence last year they went to the quarter finals of the state championship.

This year is the first year they have had seniors on their team and they made it to the state semi-finals and lost on a 80 yard bomb with one mintue left. Beat Blue Springs and played Ray Pec within 3 points. Give us about 4 years (just about the time my son is a senior) and we will be able to paly with Rockhurst and the rest of the area big boys.

Damn, I didn't even know there was a Lee's Summit West. I guess it's been a while since I've been home. Is that the 3rd high school in L.S.? I must be getting old, because there was only one high school there when I graduated.

But I did find this info on my HS team.

The Lee's Summit Tigers trounced the visiting Truman Patriots football team by a score of 35-0 in Friday's league game.

With the win, Lee's Summit improves its record to 5-0 on the season. The Tigers host the Blue Springs Wildcats in a non-league game on Friday, October 6.

Nice.
I was talking about positioning for D-linemen.

As far as the speed training... this being my first year, I am nearly the lowest on the totem pole. I would change a LOT about the way things are done, if I had any say. But for now, I am just learning.

I just looked up my old high school, and they're doing pretty well. 4-1, with the only loss coming in overtime. They've scored 169 points and given up 82, so their average score is 34 to 16.

The more interesting thing to me is the size of the kids. When I was in high school 25 years ago, the biggest guy on our team weighed 245 pounds. I remember that because he was almost exactly 100 pounds heavier than I was. He was an all-state tackle.

On the current roster for the school, there are 8 players who weigh 245 pounds or more, including 1 each at 270, 280, and 300. What are they feeding these kids nowadays?

Our local school is undefeated and ranked 7th in the state (1A). For perennial losers, it's a nice turn around.

As for my high school - who knows? It's been 24 years; I don't care. :)

In a related note, both of my boys are playing youth football (4th through 6th grade) this year, for the first time. My 6th grader broke both bones in his right arm last Saturday during the game. :( That sucked big time. He's obviously done for the year. I think we are down to 13 players left.

Lee's Summit nearly shut down explosive Blue Springs running back Carlos Anderson.

The Wildcat passing game was a different matter.

Quarterback Nick Caldrone finished the night 20-of-28 passing for 208 yards and two touchdown passes as the Wildcats knocked off host Lee's Summit Friday 44-7.

The 44 points were twice as many as the Tigers had given up in their first five games combined.

"Coach (Kelly Donohoe) said they'd be focusing on Carlos," Caldrone said. "That opened things up."

The passing game helped the Wildcats (5-1) dominate possession in the first half.

After a 19-play drive left Blue Springs with a 30-yard Chase McCoy field goal that took up most of the first quarter, Blue Springs followed with a 13-play, 99-yard drive capped by a Quinn Bass 1-yard run as the Wildcats took a 10-0 lead.

On both drives, the Wildcats came up big on third downs, converting four third downs and one fourth down.

"We knew they would be good," said Tiger defensive back Nathan Graham, who had an interception in the game. "But what do you do when you've got third and 10 and they keep completing 10-yard passes?"

Later in the second quarter, after another Graham interception was called back on a penalty, Caldrone hit Eric Silkwood on a fade pattern for a 3-yard score, taking a 17-0 lead at half.

In the third quarter after Anderson scored on a 3-yard score to make the lead 24-0, Lee's Summit (5-1) started throwing and completing, courtesy of quarterback Andrew Schnell.

A 42-yard pass from Schnell to Kevin Johnson set up a 25-yard touchdown pass from Schnell to Johnson three plays later.

Johnson finished the game with four catches for 104 yards, while Schnell threw for 232 yards.

But that was as close as Lee's Summit would get. Caldrone hit Bubby Williams for a 28-yard score two minutes into the fourth quarter. A Jordan Porter interception later set up a Derwin Hall two-yard run. Hall later busted an 87-yard score to close out the scoring after Marcus Brown picked off Schnell. It was Schnell's fourth pick of the game. DeAndre Clark picked him off twice.

Williams said he was impressed with what he saw out of Lee's Summit, despite the score.

"Their secondary speed was very good," Williams said. "Lee's Summit is a good football team. They're stronger and faster than last year. I don't know if it's because they're more confident now or what."

With the two teams coming in with a combined one loss, as well as it being Lee's Summit's homecoming, the game was televised and there was a big buzz surrounding it.

Lee's Summit coach Mike Spiegel said his team wasn't used to playing in a game like this and it cost the Tigers.

"Blue Springs has been in big games," he said. "We haven't been in a game this big since 1988. With all the media and homecoming, you might as well have thrown senior night in too."

One negative for both teams were the number of penalties. In total 20 penalties were called including an uncharacteristic 13 penalties on Blue Springs for 90 yards.

"We've had five games where I've been pretty proud because we've had very few penalties," Donohoe said. "We'll have to see the film. I don't mind aggressive penalties. A few of those were irritating."

Included in those penalties for Blue Springs were three personal fouls and a pass interference call.

Spiegel, whose team was penalized seven times for 50 yards, said his team will work on that in practice.

"We have to eliminate penalties," he said. "I might bring officials into practice next week or put stripes on somebody."

In addition to the loss, the Tigers lost senior linebacker Jason Kingsolver to a knee injury in the second quarter. His status was unknown after the game.

The Tigers have already lost running back Kevinn Mitchell to an ACL tear in week three.

5-1 after losing their first to Springfield Catholic by a score of 28-26. Took over after a 6 point score by the Fightin' Irish, and was over in five plays after completing a 30+ yard pass into Catholic territory, a incompleted touchdown pass, an forced throw out of bounds to avoid a sack, a 5 yard slant out of bounds and a fourth down incomplete slot receiver out that was thrown a bit too far ahead of him. Depressing loss to watch, no fun as a radio commentator to discuss either.

South really laid it on them...it is itneresting that BSS is in Rock's district these days. South was always intimidated by Rockhurst.

I watched a HS game on the game of the week last night, Clovis East from Fresno area. They Passed the ball only twice and completed neither, but still won the game.

They run a double wing offense with 2 tight ends, the QB blocks after pitching it. Wierdest offense I have ever seen, total power inside the tackles, and yet they gained yards.

The FB was up almost in the QB's ass and the line of scrimmage was tight, shoulder to shoulder as they lined up.

The FB ran had 2 touchdown runs of over 50 yards where it was a quick handoff, and he dissapeared in a pile and then all of a sudden was streaking for a TD behind the defense.

The D would get so preoccupied with the sweeps off tackle, that they would forget the A gaps, and it would be hit so quick, that they, and the camera didn't know he had the ball until he squirted out behind the D.

Unbelievable.

Clovis is a respectable program in their own right, so it wasn't because a lack of Defense.

Got to the game last night about 35-40 min late because of smoking ribs at the church. As I was walking up to the gate, the score had us up 42-0. I looked at the time, saw 2 minutes left and I thought, "Just in time for half. Another look at the scoreboard and I notice there is a 1 in the quarter column. I could have sworn that showed which quarter we were in but thought that maybe I was just mistaken and it was really saying 2 min to go in the first half because it had been too much time since kickoff. As I walked to our seats, the clock ran out and instead of running off the field, the teams just switched endzones and kept playing. Oh my! That was the first quarter!

At half we were up 56-0. The final score was 56-7. I'll say this for thier team though, they had great sportsmanship. Even though they were losing and struggling against our JV and freshman teams in the second half, they kept trying AND played a really clean game. They are a charter school in OK City and this is only their 3rd year to play football - they have only won 2 games since they started. But they haven't forfeited their season.:)

At one point in the second quarter, their QB scrambled to the left, got shut off, tried to Dante Hall around the field and finally threw a pass out of bounds on the other side of the field right before he got tackled. The ref threw a flag for intentional grounding. OUR fans booed the refs for it and there was so much noise from our side of the field the refs had a conference and waved the flag off. I have never seen the home team boo the refs for a bad call they made on the visiting team.LMAO

Wildcats handle Blue Jays, setting up rematch against Blue Springs South in Class 6 quarterfinal game. By BOB LUDER

The Kansas City Star

Bring on Blue Springs South.

Blue Springs’ players and coaches weren’t exactly shouting it after their 45-21 annihilation of Liberty in the teams’ regular-season and district finale Friday night at Peve Memorial Stadium. But it was written all over their faces — in the wry grins they cracked when asked about their cross-town archrival, and in the intensity in their voices.

The Wildcats improved to 9-1 and in so doing earned a rematch against South, which defeated Rockhurst 27-7 and improved to 10-0 in its district decider Friday. The two teams will face each other in a Class 6 quarterfinal at 7 next Friday night back at Peve.

“We just wanted an opportunity at Blue Springs South again,” Wildcats coach Kelly Donohoe said. “Our competitive juices are flowing. We’re excited for this chance.

“But we know we’ll have to play a fantastic game.”

If Friday’s games were any indication, next week’s game will be a matchup of Blue Springs’ offense, which exploded for 17 points in the game’s opening 7 ½ minutes against Liberty, and Blue Springs South’s defense, which not only held Rockhurst to one touchdown but held the Wildcats to just three points in a 34-3 win in week 3.

“They’re fantastic defensively,” Donohoe said. “You’re not going to see this many points next week.”

Actually, only 31 of Blue Springs’ 45 points were generated by the offense Friday. In fact, the Wildcats nearly matched Liberty on punt returns alone. Senior receiver Bubby Williams returned two punts for touchdowns, the first covering 50 yards, the second 51.

He scored a third touchdown on a beautiful one-handed grab in the end zone of a Nick Caldrone pass.

“We’ve been working on the line springing me clear on punt returns all season,” Williams said. “That’s what happened the first time. The second time I don’t know what happened.

“(On the touchdown grab) I just stuck my hand out, and Nick put the ball out there.”

When Williams wasn’t pulling off his heroics, junior running back Carlos Anderson was running all over the Blue Jays defense. He had 185 yards in 15 carries at halftime and finished with 218 yards in 24 carries.

Liberty appeared shaky from the opening kickoff, and Blue Springs took full advantage, mostly behind the running of Anderson. On the Wildcats’ first possession, Anderson carried for 12, 17 and, finally, 1 yard as he plunged across the goal line just 2 minutes, 19 seconds into the game.

Meanwhile, Liberty’s receivers had trouble holding on to quarterback Jimmy Costello’s passes early in the game. After holding the Blue Jays to three downs and punt, Blue Springs took over and this time marched 38 yards in seven plays before settling for a 37-yard Chase McCoy field goal.

The Wildcats again held Liberty to three and out, and when Williams fielded a punt at the 50 and dashed to the end zone, they had a 17-0 lead with 4 ½ minutes left in the first quarter.

Liberty finally countered with two touchdowns on a 1-yard run by Blaine Crow and 10-yard pass from Costello to Wes Harper but could never get closer than 10 points.

my team, Cedar Hill, is doing great, 9-0 going for 10-0 and a perfect regular season this friday. #4 in the state of Texas. (best state for HS football) This is crazy good for the school because last year was our first year in 30 or so years that we had made the playoffs. We lost in the first round to Allen last year, but this year the Senior class is the best we've ever had. Our QB/WR/RB/do it all man is getting offers from LSU and such. Our CB has commited to Nebraska. We're going for 5A state championship baby!

We are in the state playoffs. Had a chance to win districts last friday (we were in 1st place going into the game and could have lost by 1-2 points and kept the championship) and lost to a team on the road we should have beat 19-10. We were ahead until sometime around the 4th quarter and they got their last TD off a fake FG attempt with just a couple of seconds left in the game. Coach said all week the players wouldn't take the game seriously and no matter what he did (for our HC that means yelling, being tough in practice, etc), he couldn't get them to take the game seriously. He blamed himself for not getting them motivated. However, we lost by enough that we ended up dropping from first to 3rd place and we get to go through the playoffs on the road.

It will be a tough road from here on out. This team just isn't as tough or fast as past teams. They are young though so hopefully with maturity that will come.

We play Sat evening up by Tulsa in the second round of our state's playoffs. Seems this year we have two teams - one is dominating and puts the game away by the end of the second quarter. The other is passive and lets other teams - even lessor teams hang around and stay in the game. Problem is, both teams are made up of the same players - and we never know which team will show up on any given gameday. :banghead:

We play Sequoia(sp?) Claremore Saturday. They are the top team in the standings for 3A in OK. If the right team shows up, it should be a good game. If the other team shows up, we won't have to worry about football again until '07.

BTW, Skip, (and any others around Tulsa) if you want to see our Tornadoes in action, they will be in your stomping grounds and I recommend going to see them if you like HS football. Had it been a daytime game, a bunch of us from church would be making the trip and I could meet up with you guys. But since KO is at 7:30, it would be too late by the time we got home.

Yup, quite a game I heard...10k+ on hand for it. It is tough going about your days in that town when you lose to the other side. South hasn't gotten the best of them to move on in the playoffs since '99. They won a state title with this game...nobody would be able to touch the winner of BS\BSS.

Jags' edge

South's Jag of all trades helps team top Wildcats

By Bill Althaus
The Examiner

Jeremy Mack glanced at Blue Springs South quarterback Blaine Dalton as he sat in the visitor's locker room at Blue Springs High School.

Mack, the big wide receiver who's already made a verbal commitment to Kansas State, just smiled and said, "He's not from this planet."

Perhaps Dalton is from Krypton, because Friday night at Peve Stadium, the sophomore turned into Superman.

Dalton accounted for all four touchdowns as he led the 11-0 and No. 1-ranked Jaguars to a 28-24 come-from-behind Class 6 state quarterfinal victory in the sleet and snow at Peve Stadium.

The Jaguars will host Jefferson City, a 30-2 winner over Francis Howell Central, in the state semifinals 7 p.m. next Friday.

"I don't know how he does it," Mack continued. "Well, I do know how. One word: composure."

South coach Greg Oder agreed.

"Have you ever seen Blaine get excited?" Oder asked. "I know I see him a lot more than (most fans), but I have never seen him get excited or lose him composure at practice or in a game.

"When we need 6 yards on third down, he rushes for 16. When they score on the opening drive, he throws a touchdown on his first pass of the game. He's not your normal sophomore."

Dalton finished with five completions in 10 passes for 124 yards and two scores and carried the ball 13 times for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

"We just tried to take what the defense gave us," said Dalton, who hit Kellen Bartlett on a 55-yard bomb in the first quarter to tie it after the Wildcats had taken a 7-0 lead on a 4-yard run by quarterback Nick Caldrone. "Nothing was really designed for me or Kellen tonight. It just happened to work out that way."

With Tony Randolph picking up most of the yards on the ground, the Jaguars then drove 58 yards on 11 plays to take a 14-7 lead. Dalton capped the drive with a 1-yard dive over the line.

On their next series, the Jaguars drove 51 yards in just six plays, with Dalton again scoring on a 1-yard run to take what appeared to be a safe 21-7 lead into halftime.

But the Wildcats recovered a fumble with 41 seconds left in the second quarter and Caldrone hooked up with running back Carlos Anderson for a 23-yard scoring pass to make it 21-14 at the half.

"That was a big change in momentum," Caldrone said. "We felt good at the half."

With a 35-mph wind at their back, the Wildcats felt like they needed to take charge in the third quarter.

"We didn't want to have to try and come back with the wind in our face in the fourth quarter," Blue Springs coach Kelly Donohoe said, "so we really went out and tried to make something happen in the third quarter."

Blue Springs cornerback DeAndre Clark picked off a Dalton pass that led to a 31-yard Chase McCoy field goal to cut the deficit to 21-17.

Sean-Tray Bryson then sacked Dalton on the Jaguars' next possession and Mack got off an 11-yard punt into the teeth of the wind, giving the Wildcats the ball on the South 41.

Four plays later Caldrone hit Bubby Williams for a 27-yard touchdown, and suddenly it was 24-21 in favor of the underdog Wildcats.

"They made some big plays, and we didn't help ourselves with all the turnovers," said Oder, whose team had three turnovers in the game, "but this team never gives up."

In the wind and sleet, Dalton avoided a big pass rush and found Bartlett in the end zone. Somehow, the big tight end fought off two defenders and the elements to catch a 44-yard bomb that turned into the game-winner.

"Blaine threw it the only place I could catch it," Bartlett said. "It was perfect."

And so was the ending of the game for the Jaguars.

"This is just an incredible feeling," said Dalton, who actually broke into a smile in the locker room. "I know how much it means to our coaches, the seniors on the team and everyone in this locker room.

"We'll enjoy it tonight, and then get ready for Jeff City."

Both of our big school's teams--Texas High and Arkansas High (Rod Smith and Eric Warfield's alma mater)--are both still in the hunt and favored to take their respective state titles.

In odd news, however, the local news just announced that if #1 Texas High and #2 Highland Park (Dallas) both win this weekend, they intend to play their game at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, LA.

Who the hell ever heard of a high school state championship game being played in another state?

Well, we won't be getting our 15th championship this year. Lost tonight to Sequoia Claremore 15-6. Our O never could get going. Our QB completed more passes to Claremore than he did to us. Our D did a solid job - I read something in the paper about how Claremore hadn't scored less than 40 all season.

I think the kids have won for so long they just took it for granted this season. No where near the intensity they had two years ago. Same thing happened back in '02. We won 2 champs in a row, then the team took a year off.

Well, in Cedar Hill's (TX) first playoff game we whooped a private school (Dallas Jesuit) 63-7. If that doesnt show how superior we are, I dont know what does.

Tomorrow we play Lewisville Hebron, a team that has only lost once this year (we handed them that loss 42-6), at Texas Stadium at 4 PM. All you guys in the Dallas area should go and check out that game as well as the game before it, a matchup of the 2 state champs from last year (Euless Trinity and Southlake Carroll). Should be 2 great games.

I'll keep you updated, I have a feeling we are going to win state.

After that, they went on a roll, winning out and coming into the game today, they were 10-1. I guess we're their kryptonite, we won 42-17 this time. Revenge didnt come so easily for them. Montoursville (PA) Warriors won tonight 41-7 at home versus an admittedly shitty Shikallemy team. We've been district champs the last 2 years and were 2 games from the state final last year and 1 game the year before. We looked ok tonight, but there are a few big tests coming up quick against traditional rivals. We have a sweet home schedule though so a 3rd straight district title is not out of reach.

We got a kid at WR. He's probably 6'1 or 6'2. Long and lanky, not real big, but fast as ****. I had him in class when he was in 7th grade. Natural athlete. He came in second last year in the 110 m high hurdles. He scorched em for 2 long TD bombs and took a couple of routine hitches and flag routes and glided a good 20 more yards. I haven't seen the numbers but I bet he was close to 200 yards tonight. The kicker is this is his first year to play football and he's a senior. He had been stuck on the ****ing soccer field for 3 years because some dick of a Pop Warner coach told him in 5th grade that he'd never be big enough to play football.

We looked much better than any time last year. Kids are very serious right now. Beat what is probably the best team we will face in the next 6 weeks 30-8 (and our coach backed things off and played backups through most of the 4th).

New QB this year looked rather decent, he's only a sophmore. Our starting RB put on 20 pounds this last year and it shows. Though our backup RB looks better than the starter, I think he could take over the starting spot - the starter is a Jr and the backup a Soph.

Defensivly we look really strong. The one TD the opponents scored had a long pass in the drive where both DBs went for the INT instead of one of them playing the WR. The TD itself was an interesting play itself. They were inside the 5 and couldn't punch it in. Finally, the QB starts running right, jumps up in the air like he's shooting a jump shot and throws it accross the LOS like he's spiking it, right into the TEs hands as he's laying in the endzone. Outside of that one drive, they couldn't do much of anything at all against our D.

I can't wait to see what we look like when we get clicking on everything.

We are still undefeated - had something like 2 TDs scored on our starting D all season.

Played the HS Troy Aikman played for tonight. They have been talking trash ever since we got re-rated and dropped into 3A. We barely beat them last year (off year) and they were talking a lot of trash this year. Beat them tonight 28-0. Everytime they got into the red zone they turned it over. The refs helped them a lot and they still couldn't score.

Next week we play another team that is pretty good. Winner of that one is district champ and gets 2 home games in the playoffs (privided the win the first week and earn the second game).

First we're going to see South-Rockhurst next Friday night at Rockhurst for the District championship. They're the two top ranked teams in Mo Class 6, yet one of them will not reach the state playoffs. The winner should host No. 3 Blue Springs in the state quarterfinals. I'd be surprised if Blue Springs didn't win their district.

People more in the know than I am say that beating Oak Park handedly pretty much wrapped up the district for Blue Springs. Obviously, any given day...esp in HS football but it looks as though BS will be waiting.

I am laughing my ass off at Rockhurst actually having teams with a pulse in their district these days. Districts used to be the time when Rock would see how their sophomores and young guys could do in varsity games. They have to bring it now.

The Joplin radio announcers told me tonight they think South is better than Rockhurst. The Rock beat Joplin last week 49-21. South has way too much speed on both sides of the ball for most teams. The second half has been a turbo clock special all season except for the Blue Springs game, which South won 24-14.

It's one thing to hang around with Blue Springs South for a quarter or two. The Jags almost always pull away and make the game a blowout. The Jags defense has totally shutdown some of the best running backs in the area. Their defense has too much speed on the outside and they have a stout front seven. Some teams can get passing yards on them, but not enough to keep the game close.

I put in a call to catch up with an old friend and coach of mine. A guy thats been really good to me in my life. I may go and take photographs of a BS\BSS game if it happens. He said South is indeed really good. Everyone expects them to beat Rock but that you can't take anything away from BS. They have a really solid OL and a great running back. He feels they are underdogs but could go in and beat them if they played well.

It is about time the title comes to the right side of the city. That thing does not belong south of 40 highway.

I will say BS was missing their regular starting quarterback when they lost to South. The problem with BS was their kicking and punting. Carlos Anderson got his yards, but he couldn't break a big run against South's defense.

Ha, no shit. Stinson is a stand up guy. He was a soph I think when I was a senior. It is funny because nobody really saw all the potential there. He played QB and was very smart but people didn't think he was going to be THE guy after Justin Whitworth and our '01 team took the title. I always thought he wasn't going to get a shot. I do remember one time Justin took a few plays off and wasn't feeling well so Stinson came in to run the offense during practice. They called a long play and he just rifled it down field...it was truly a thing to behold. I remember everyone being on sideline with their jaws dropped...and the coaches looked over wondering if it wasn't actually Justin in there. He started planting the seeds even then.

He turns out to be arguably one of the better QB's in team history leading them to the title in '03. He was so strong in the air and on the ground and was incredibly smart. A true leader.

Well guys, how are you all doing?

We are still undefeated - had something like 2 TDs scored on our starting D all season.

Played the HS Troy Aikman played for tonight. They have been talking trash ever since we got re-rated and dropped into 3A. We barely beat them last year (off year) and they were talking a lot of trash this year. Beat them tonight 28-0. Everytime they got into the red zone they turned it over. The refs helped them a lot and they still couldn't score.

Next week we play another team that is pretty good. Winner of that one is district champ and gets 2 home games in the playoffs (privided the win the first week and earn the second game).
I thought Aikman played for Henryetta. The McDonald's there has pictures of him all over their walls.

Zumwalt West beat Jeff City 45-36

I took my son to the Hickman vs FZW game last week. Great game from start to finish. The Kewps have 2 really good runnig backs.

Zumwalt West 8-1 will need a Hickman loss and a win over Zumwalt South to have a chance for the playoffs.

Hickman has a 10 point lead over FZW in the tie breaker.

Blue Springs South will look back at the first half tonight and wonder what happened. They kept running when it didn't work, and they only threw three times in the first half. Then they went down field in the second half and it worked. Rockhurst did to BSS in the first half what BSS had been doing to their opponents all season.

Rockhurst had 225 yards in the first half, Scheelhasse had 176 of them. It takes multiple defenders to tackle him. Rockhurst put pressure on Dalton all night, which definitely helped them.

Lee’s Summit West football team grows together, makes history

ST. LOUIS | On the day when the Lee’s Summit West Titans created a new benchmark for all those who will follow in their steps, the talk centered on history.

The boys were ready to rush the carpet at the Edward Jones Dome, and stomp Parkway Central on it, but assistant coach Chris Barrows calmed their fire. As he always does, Barrows huddled them all for a little chat. Nobody moved. They just listened.
“When you run out of these doors, out of this tunnel,” Barrows said. “You’re going to make history.”

History in the sense that these Titans, 14-0, are the first Lee’s Summit school district team to win a football state championship. Just four years in existence, Lee’s Summit West turned a Friday afternoon into its championship coming out, rolling Parkway Central 35-0 in the Class 4 Show-Me Bowl.

Seven straight losses, Camdenton, Webb City, that’s all history, too. Now stored away, forgotten in favor for a new identity.
“It’s unreal,” coach Royce Boehm said. “You can’t prepare yourself for a feeling like this.”

They’ve arrived. The Titans may be a young program, but have been a contender since opening the doors back in 2004. From the very start, Boehm built a team that believed it was more than a city champ. The Titans actually believed they could win it all.

When these kids were freshmen they lost the first seven games of their varsity career then swept the final three and took the district title. As sophomores, they advanced to the Class 4 state semifinals only to lose to eventual champion Camdenton. The next year, another semifinal berth, another loss (see: Webb City).

“We’ve had a lot of history,” senior Matt Holt said. “Every single year, we’ve had emotional losses.”

Holt has played in 53 varsity games like many of the Titan seniors but is the only four-year letter winner. Holt vividly remembers the hard knocks. Especially the one that made him see stars right before his first varsity start as a freshman.
“It was pretty scary out there,” Holt said. “The first-half kickoff, I got knocked out with a concussion.”

Now here we are in 2007. The Titans drop a running clock in the biggest game of the year and dominate Parkway Central. And the Lee’s Summit West lifers led the way.

After senior Malachi Bickle blocked a second-quarter field-goal attempt, his play enlivened the team. Moments later, senior Aaron Rollin caught a 63-yard pass for a touchdown. Then, senior linemen Kody Boles and Max Brown cleared the path for Aaron Vanderpool’s 2-yard touchdown, and the Titans held a 14-0 advantage. Jake Johnson closed the half with a perfect 45-yard spiral to senior Vinnie Defeo.

“It showed today what these kids are capable of doing,” Boehm said.
This fall, Lee’s Summit West as an athletic program in the Suburban Conference has won all nine team fall conference titles. The girls’ cross country and volleyball teams celebrated state championships, now the football team becomes the third winning program.

They’ve accomplished everything possible in Class 4, now it’s time to bump up to a higher playing field. Next season, the Titans will be a Class 5 team but shouldn’t expect decline because they’ve already proved they can beat larger schools.

With history already made, now they can simply enjoy the moment.
“I’m speechless,” Boehm said. “These kids have bought into the program. These coaches have coached their tails off … it’s surreal.”

When we faced them in October we beat them 28-0, they said that "Gave" us the game. Well, last night we beat them 29-0 and completely dominated them in every aspect of the game.

Next Saturday we face Kingfisher. We played them on our last game of regualar season, ended regulation tied and had to play 4 OTs to get the W. Should be a great game.

I'm currently watching Jenks vs Union play for the 6A state title on an obscure local TV station. Ch. 53 KGEB. During halftime they mentioned the Clinton Red Tornadoes. I missed what they said. Will I get to see your team on TV?

We're heading to St. Louis tomorrow to watch Belton in their first state championship game. My nephew starts on the offensive line, so we're hoping they can bring home a trophy.
Belton lost a heartbreaker last Saturday against Waynesville. We held a 7-3 lead with about 4 minutes left and Waynesville facing 4th and 7 on Belton's 37. Belton jumped offsides and they were able to convert 4th and about one and a half yards. They scored a TD to go up 10-7 a few plays later.

Belton still had over three minutes left to mount a come back, but fumbled the kickoff and Waynesville scored again two plays later to set the final score at 17-7.

Both teams were in their first ever State title game.

We play tommorow (Sat) at 1pm. KSBI 52 is showing it out here. I will be staying home and watching it on TV. Don't know if you will be getting it up in Tulsa or not. Should be a great game, it took 4 overtimes for us to get the W in the regular season.

Wow! We've been behind the entire game. We just marched down the field for the go-ahead score with 1 minute to go. On the kickoff, their player muffed the fair catch and we recovered.

Sweet!!!

My son starts football camp next week with the defending state champs. The following week is 2 a day practices. A week off then full blown fall practice starts. Inour 5th year we move up to Class 5. Bring on the big boys. Heck our sophmores beat Rockhurst last year at Rockhurst.

When does your team start? Any news?

I'm currently sitting on the computer with my MP3 player ear buds in my ears listening to the game while my wife sits on the couch watching Titanic (I'll bet the boat sinks again and leonardo dies again too).

We are currently up 48-17. Our RB has 302 yards so far and most of the TDs.

When "Titanic" was in the theater, the KC Star's movie page had a short synopsis of each film that was showing, so you could get a handle about what each film was about.

For Titanic, the movie description simply said "Glub....Glub....Glub...."

It was tough to lose. Surprised that Tuttle lost too. I think most people had us and Tuttle playing in the championship. We had the lead in the 4th, but let S-C tie it up late, then they kicked a FG with 2 seconds left for the win.

Almost seemed like we went back to what lost us the two games earlier. We, and the D, keyed on our stud RB instead of a team effort. Add in our secondary had holes all season and they were exposed today. With 4 -5 turnovers, we did pretty good to even be in the game in the 4th, much less fight back to take the lead.

It's funny, most HS teams would be delighted to just make it to their semi-final matches, In Clinton, its expected that we win the semi-final. FWIW, we've played in something like 26 state championship games since 1960.
