Last nights game was an embarrassment.

Hopefully we get back on track on the winning side today against Arkansas. Should be a good game.

Let's go Jayhawks and bench Russell Robinson for gosh sakes Self.

I don't follow 'em closely, but any radio station that carries Jayhawk games that has a webcast.....can probably be accessed "live." Just do a google search....

Yeah.... KU looked very very undiciplined last night.... Chalmers gave up back-to-back turnovers and looked like an ass......

Kaun looked good though......

I found that the Iola radio station streams, and even though they are supposed to turn off the stream during the Jayhawk games, they often leave it on.

Here's the link, but they seem to have regular programming on right now....maybe it's because it's in Hawaii? :hmmm:

They're playing great tunes at the moment, though. :thumb:

You have to throw the record out with this team. Games like this are good for them. There's no real way to practice the stress of a back and forth game with a team that's pretty much your equal. These types of experiences (along with the Zona game) were good for these kids, plus it puts them in a tournament situation. That's something a lot of young teams can't cope with, the awe of just "being there" and all the stuff that happens on the side.

Might as well jump ship now. As a Jayhawk fan I cannot recall ever seeing KU rely on so much youth. It is going to be painful at the beginning, maybe this entire season, but Self has a plan. He took Illinois farther than I believe those teams should have reasonably gone. His recruits just went to the national title game last year. You have to have faith and give him time. You had to have expected it would be like this as far back as last season.

as far as the sloppy mess comment, before he was trying to take a corvette and use it as a snow plow. Now he's got his snow plow, it's just not broken in yet.

I don't see why anyone, including Self, would think that Hawkins deserves to be the starting point guard. Chalmers may have made a couple of mistakes, but overall he is a better ball-handler, better passer, better shooter, and more physical. His D is not quite as good, but that is a trade-off.

Slide Chalmers to point, put Downs at the 2, and replace Wright with Giles. That is what I think the starting 5 should be.

who said anything about jumping ship?

but when i noticed trends i get nervous

last year we had a sloppy @ss team because the guys didn't fit his system and he couldn't/wouldn't adapt his system to fit the existing players.

so most of the players left (transfer/graduated)

now we have a sloppy @ss team because the players are young

if i recall correctly, the team Self had in Illinois was a sloppy, street ball type team as well.

i'm sure we'll improve as these young players learn etc but seems like this is self's type team.

drag'em down, beat'em up and hope your entire team doesn't foul out .

yuck

Like I said in the KU vs Arizona thread.....it's going to be a long year in Larryville. I think you'll see some real ugly games with some terrific plays thrown in along the way....

I was poking at you, that's all, I know you're crimson and blue. All I'm saying is that if you're that impatient, you may want to turn your head for a few months. It won't be pretty.

Self's Illinois teams were sloppy because his players weren't the best talentwise. Self is a great recruiter, but at the time Illinois wasn't the greatest draw. you saw him build that up, and what his last recruiting class there was able to do. Now he's got the brand name, and is getting the pieces. These guys will be refined, and I believe, fit together well. We've got a killer noncon. We'll be below .500 going into conference play. I think we'll struggle with that till about early Feb, and then things will click. A couple of the freshmen will hit the "wall" though, which is all I"m really afraid of. Guys like Chalmers and Rush to me look like the real deal. We'll be a team no one wants in the Big XII tourney. If we get into the NCAA's, we'll be a double digit seed and upset some poor schlub in the first round. That's how I see it. All of this sloppiness and losing has it's purpose. The tough games against killer opponents has it's purpose. The juggling of the lineups, playing Hawkins and Moody seemingly too much has it's purpose. All we can hope is that the learning curve is steep for everyone and that guys keep putting in maximum effort toward getting better.
