View Full Version : Does anyone Remember....during a Donkey game at Arrowhead w/Elway...

There are some pretty die-hard folks on this site, and this memory keeps popping in my head and making me smile during Donkey week.

It was a game at Arrowhead sometime early in the 90's...

John Elway got injured and was getting carted off the field, and the camera was following right with him as the cart rode along the back of an end zone.

So a bunch of fans start standing up, then the TV announcers say..Look at that what good fans they are giving Elway a hand as he heads towards the locker room..then all the sudden you can tell he is totally getting cussed out and someone tosses a beer on him and the cup lands and sticks in the back of the cart and the damn announcers just got quiet as hell?? ROFL ROFL

Hoping some of you old time Chiefs fans that this site seems to be full of would remember that?

God I want us to beat them damn Broncos this Sunday

I must have missed that game, but it does sound as if it would have been memorable.

IIRC, it was in 1994.

He got pelted by more than just one cup as well.

That's funny?

Donkeys, Elway, it doesn't matter.

That kind of thing is just classless, and I'd hope that we as, KC fans, could have been represented better.

Oh well, at least it wasn't batteries.

Wow imagine that, more Elway bashing.....what else is new?!?! Dudes been gone 7 seasons and you all STILL talk about him. I know he was a great QB and he kicked your teams ass a few times in his career but come on now.......he's in Canton, he's got 2 Superbowl rings, he's got numorus records, he's got a championship Arena Football team in the Crush, he's making $$$$$$ from car dealerships and restarants.........ooops I was trying to make you all feel better...haha but I guess I failed......oh well...

I think that was 1994 game, and I think that was the one where Booker scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

come on baby.

it's a little funny.

I guess I'm just old school.

If it had been Montana in Denver, we'd all be decrying the Donkey fan as classless.

But it's Elway in KC, so it's OK.

That's just hypocritical.

I'm not sure I think the act of throwing a beer on an injured player (no matter who he is) is funny. However, the announcers commending the fans on their sportsmanship, follwed immediately by an act of complete unsportsmanship, is pretty damn funny! I was 12 at the time, but I would have liked to have seen that.

While I don't condone behavior like that at all and fall into the "it's classless" camp, I will say that it wouldn't have happened if Elway had reported to the Colts as he was supposed to do.

You're probably one of those fools who think it was okay for Eli Manning to so it though, huh?

Would you have been happier if the GREAT JOHN ELWAY would have went to KC?!?!

That's "You're" not "Your."

You're is a contraction of "You" and "are."

Actually, I despise Eli Manning for exactly that reason. Even though he was drafted in our division, he should have shown up and played for the Chargers instead of whining and whimpering and forcing a trade. I despise that behavior no matter who it is. The game is bigger than individual egos.

I hope Eli-way retires looking up at Ryan Leaf in terms of QB rating. (Spit.)

Would you have been happier if the GREAT JOHN ELWAY would have went to KC?!?!

That's the football equivalent of posting child porn. I'm going to have to ask you to remove this offending statement from the site.

I was at a Chiefs, Donky game when Elway was complaning to the Refs about the croud noise so the croud just got louder, then the Refs threw a flag for unsportsman like conduct because they were too loud. It was back in the early 90's, maybe 92. Deburg was the Chiefs quarterback at the time.

I think after that year the NFL backed off on the penalty for the croud being to loud.

I think it was Elway's rookie year, or maybe his second year, when he ballhogged the ball on 3rd down and tried to run for a first. Of course it was a bad decision and he got stopped way short. I remember laughing uproariously because he stood up and hurled the ball toward the Kansas City bench, and the refs called him for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Hilarious.

I remember this in part because it was the first Chiefs-Broncos game I saw after he cheated the Colts.

Not sure of the year, but I do remember that was the year Denver went 4-12 or something pathetic.

However, throwing a cup of beer at a player is just wrong ...

do you have any idea how much a beer costs? No way would I waste it on a Donkey.

So busy at work, did not get a chance to come on here and check the thread.

Love the responses, and there sure are a lot of Broncos fans on this site. I dont wish anyone harm, but I still find it amusing that it happened.

It feels good because John Elway is a hall of famer and he beat us a number of times. It wasnt a career threatening injury, so donk lovers, dont act like we are eagles fans cheering on Michael Irvin when the stretcher came out.

Cant wait until Sunday
