I remember the call but don't remember something out of place...here is a post from another board...

So I was watching the Kansas City/Denver game in my bedroom and there's about 6-7 minutes left in the game. It's KC ball, 2nd and 2 and Tony Richardson runs outside for about 7 yards and there's a flag.. holding on #81, Chris Horn for KC.. 10 yard penalty.. so now it's 2nd and 12. So then they run a play with Larry Johnson and he gains about 4 yards.. and then all of a sudden it's 1st and 10.. Did I miss something here seriously or did anyone else happen to notice this if it infact happened?

Did this happen?

It wasn't a mistake. Holding is a spot foul, so it wasn't 2nd and 12, it was 2nd and 4. And then LJ ran for 7.

holding past the line of scrimmage is a spot foul, no?

I belive it did. I said the same thing to my buddy when it happened. Shoulda been like 2nd and 11 or something and they only marched off 5 yards.

Oh yeah. Spot foul. Forgot about that.

The ref called it a 10 yard penalty on his mic. Damn officials anyway.

Yeah, that threw me off at first too. I wasn't even sure what the ref called.

That said, I figured if something was actually missed, you know Shanahan would've been out in the middle of the field screaming bloody murder. He doesn't miss that stuff. (Like getting 1 second added to the clock before the 2 minute warning)

I think Horn was actually closer to the line of scrimmage than the 37.

The only thing the refs may have gotten wrong would be where Horn and Lynch were when the holding happened.

I had to dig deep in the rulebook for this, and I could be wrong about it, but I think it might have possbily, maybe could have been a spot foul.

SPOT FOUL !!!!!!!

Casual FB fans don't understand.....it's 10 yds from the SPOT of the foul....meaning, where ever the holding took place, the Chiefs lost 10 yds from that point.

I'm sure glad gunther fan was in here to yell "spot foul" in big bold letters after 15 other people had already pointed that out.

Way to be on the ball, man. I don't know what we'd do without you.

The refs sucked ass today-the only call they got right is the one overturned by the replay in the 4th quarter. It was not even close and was a ripoff they even called it for the Donkeys to begin with. The refs so love the Donkeys, it is an embarrasseament to officiating around the league. The Refs totally SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

So, the feeling that I'm getting from the consensus of the Planet posting on this thread is that it was a spot foul. Well, we really ought not to be fouling those spots. :p :D

There was a spot. It fouled Lynch. Then the spot ran over and defecated on Shanny's shoe. It was a spot foul, committed by a foul spot.

I was confused too, then I realized it must've been from the spot of the foul. How come holding usually results in 10 yards and replay of the down but in this case it didn't?

How come holding usually results in 10 yards and replay of the down but in this case it didn't?It did result in 10 yards and replay of the down. However, since the foul occurred past the line of scrimage, it got stepped off from there. If it occurs behind the line of scrimage (where most offensive holds occur), then it gets marked off from the line of scrimage. What I'm not sure about is how they do it if the hold takes place downfield, and the ball doesn't reach the spot of the foul. I guess in that case, they'd mark it off from where the ball is spotted? Or do they call that something other than holding? Does the foul have to happen behind the line or behind the ball carrier to be called holding?

Whew, I just spent the last two days researching this, analyzing the rule book, calling the NFL offices and studying ancient runes and the old Hebrew texts. I've come to the conclusion that, with 87% certainty, it was a spot foul.

After nearly a year of exhaustive research, the Hochuli Commission has released their findings (http://imagesocket.com/view/hulksmashwtc500.jpg):

It is our conclusion that the penalty was to be assessed from the spot.
