failing to address personel needs. we've had 4 years to fix this defense. and obtain a threat at wr. to loyal to players who don't deserve to be starters, ie eric hicks, dexter mcleon, wesly and woods.

Not firing Greg Robinson, Greg Wesley, Warfield, Bartee, Hicks, Etc...after the 2002 season.

His biggest mistake? Loyalty. He sticks with people too long, whether it be coaches or players.

I'd say it would be the offseason following the 13-3 season and loss to Indy in the playoffs. That offseason the Chiefs hired the wrong guy to be DC and they made the wrong decision to bring back guys like Jerome Woods, Eric Hicks, and Greg Wesley.

Imagine the defense with Gregg Williams as DC, and Bert Berry at DE, opposite Jared Allen.

Berry was a free agent that offseason, 2 years ago when Hicks was also a free agent. The Chiefs could have let Hicks walk and signed Berry. In fact Arizona was interested in Hicks I think, instead the Chiefs decide to re-sign Hicks, and Berry ends up in Arizona.

Berry has had double digit sack years the past 2 years I think.

Bringing in Robinson, definitely. That set the tone on the defensive side of the ball, which has been an unmitigated disaster during his entire tenure.

over loyalty.

Being too loyal to "nice guys" who can't play football for shit. Being too loyal to Ancient position coaches who have proven they suck again and again.

Thats for starters.

Add to that my list of contenders.
Greg Robinson
No tacklin' drills in camp after a horrible tacklin' and _efensive year.
Giving the team the week off after they've just shit in their nest.

In short.....He's too soft, made his team into a bunch of candy asses.

One thing which has already been mentioned.

Dick said himself early on that he is loyal to a fault.

Grob as D.C.

Letting Donnie Edwards go!

Not enough urgency after the 2003 season to improve.

hiring Greg Robinson has his defensive coordinator

Robinson scheme did NOT fit the existing personnel AND didn't fit Vermeil's personnel preferences.

was a match made in hell from the very start

Hiring Robinson. That was an obvious mistake from the moment it happened, especially when there were half a dozen really strong candidates available at the time. That was a truly inexplicable decision.

Not keeping John Tait
We were put in a situation where the Bears had tons of cap room to spare and frontloaded his contract to a ridiculous cap number. There was no way we could keep Tait.
I think the obvious failing that DV had was not firing his DC who gave him the 32 defense.
