I'm just curious on everyones opinion on this.....he seem to round out into form as the season went on.

I think it'll probably depend on what happens during the offseason... if DV leaves, who his replacement is, any FA moves, etc. If he feels like he'll just be wasting his time, he'll probably retire.

Probably, the same could be said about Roaf too.

I think Roaf comes back, but Shields retires. Shields almost retired before this season. I don't see anything that happened this season or likely to happen in the next two months to get him to change his mind.

I hope it isn't, but I think it will be. He's had a great run, but his return was a close thing this year. IMO, he retires after this year and enters the HOF in five.

I think Shields is done. Just like you said it took him many games to hit his stride. I think the only reason he came back this year was for DV and the possible SB trip.

I think Shields and Roaf will be back next year, for one more run and an all-time NFL rushing record. I think being part of such a record would cement both of them in the HOF.

Shields reportedly has an arthrimetric back. It may be getting to the point where playing much more football jeopardizes his chances of having a normal quality of life in his 40's and 50's.

IMO Sun. will be Shields' last game.

The chance to block for a 2500 yard rusher named Larry Johnson hopefully.

Shields is gone for sure. Roaf will probably be back.

He is still playing at the top of his game as evidenced by another Pro Bowl trip. Early in the season I would have said absolutely he would be retiring but now I have my doubts. I guess we will have to wait and see what HIS decision is.

He should retire at the TOP with a Pro Bowl trip.

The chiefs get salary cap relief and have the chance to replace a future HOF OG and the next year maybe a future HOF T.

I think he was off and on this year, it was clear that the pain was impairing him. It has been a good run Will, thanks and enjoy your retirement.

Yes I think he will retire.

They are already cemented into the Hall. A rushing record does not improve on 100% odds.

I think he will retire. I think this is his last hurrah. If Roaf goes too were screwed on the O-line. We have nobody waiting in the wings to take over. Those are some awfully big shoes to fill and we would be lucky to ever get them refilled.

I think we are witnessing the last of this explosive offense.

I agree.

Roaf convinced Shields to come back, and Roaf might feel shorted by his hamstring injury.

Tackles can play until their upper 30's.

He better come back, our offense depends on him.

I talked to Tim Ryan not too terribly long ago (ex DT for da Bears) and asked him if he ever played against Szott, Siglar, Shields etc... He said he lined up against Szott and could halfway hold his own but when he went against Shields (when Will was a rookie) he knew it was time to hang em up. He said Will Shields was so big, strong and fast that he knew it was time to hang the cleats up. That is a heckuva testimony coming from a player who played against him. One thing we have to admit, we have been truly blessed for a very long time with top notch O linemen with the likes of Grunny, Big John Alt, Siglar, Szott, Shields, Waters, etc..... I think Big Will hangs em up this year and is a first ballot HOF'er.

I agree with the idea that if we get a shit hot new HC and DC, Roaf will stay and Shields MIGHT stay.

I can't imagine either of them will stick around for another year of DICK. :#

Shields has that consecutive game streak going. He will break it if he comes back next year, I think.

I remember when they gave him whatever award it was at the Patriots game and for some reason I have the number 19 in my head as the number of games he had left after that one. I could be wrong though.

You've really got to be careful with those arthimetric backs...
