When you compare how each team did against other teams of differing records, here's how everyone stacks up. Note that this is through 15 weeks (14 for New England since they play tonight).
Opponent Record Chiefs Steeler Jaguars Bengals Broncos Colts Patriots
4-11 or worse 4-0 3-0 5-0 3-0 3-0 5-0 3-0
5-10 to 7-8 0-2 3-1 3-1 5-1 3-0 3-0 2-0
8-7 to 10-5 4-3 2-1 1-0 2-1 5-3 2-1 4-3
11-4 or better 1-1 2-3 2-3 1-2 1-0 3-1 0-2
A few things emerge from this:
1. Our schedule wasn't notably worse than many other teams' schedules, though it was one of the tougher schedules. Counting the Bengals next week, we'll have 10 games against above-.500 teams, the same as Denver and New England. Jacksonville got off easy with only 6, but those six were more likely to be particularly strong teams. However, Jacksonville will also face 6 teams with 4 or fewer wins (most likely) this year, more than any other contender.
2. We're the only team that lost more than 1 game to sub-.500 teams.
3. We played above .500 against teams with winning records. We can compete in the playoffs if we make it, especially now that we're healthy.
4. While I truly do hate the Broncos, they won 2/3rds of their games against winning teams. Only the Colts did better. I really do hate the Broncos, though.
5. The Broncos won the division because we stumbled against Buffalo and Philadelphia, while they didn't.
