Surprise Surprise Surprise Lebo wants Butch Davis, which has nothing to do with the fact he's an Oklahoma grad.

Butch Davis is a joke...i'd rather let Al have a shot then butch, but i think Carl should go after gregg williams. snyder is bluffing about matching any offer, hes all talk, and williams could bring the old defensive mentality back to the chiefs cause god knows gunther hasn't.

You do realize Gregg Williams was a worse head coach than Davis right? Buffalo players made fun of the guy for being a dope, I view Williams as worse than Davis in the head coaching area.

They haven't exactly kicked ass for the new guy either. Maybe the coach wasn't the problem.

I'm not on board with hiring Davis, but what makes him a joke and Williams the answer? Davis's record as HC is bettter. I'm not enamored with either of them.

They did have a nice turnaround last year where they put together a streak at the end of the year and almost made the playoffs. They let Bledsoe go and not having a solid QB pretty much ruined thier season this year.

I'm hoping the Butch Davis rumors are Carl's way of making everyone thankful for whoever he actually hires. "He sucks, but at least he's not Butch Davis!"

According to 610, Butch Davis was at the game yesterday as a "personal guest" of CP and he sat in the suite with CP.

Right before Vermeil was hired, the rumor swirling around was Rick Neuheisel. So you may be on the money.

Kinda like Vermeil did in 2000.

I messed up. Bob Stoops was a guest in CP suite at yesterday's game.

I wouldn't be upset. He didn't succeed in Cleveland, but he inherited absolutely jack. He took over a team that had won a total of 5 games over the previous two seasons. The offense was dead last in the league, the defense in the bottom two or three. It would have been rough for anyone to turn that franchise around. He went 7-9, then 9-7, but the team regressed in the third year to 5-11.

In Cleveland, the cupboard was totally bare. But the Chiefs are not a team that someone is going to have to implode and rebuild from the ground up. 2 or 3 key acquisitions on either side of the ball along with some new coaching philosophies might be all that it takes for this team to get to the next level.

Not every good football coach is immediately successful in the NFL. He can coach football, everyone knows that, the question is whether he can make the personnel moves. Butch Davis had a hell of a hill to climb in Cleveland after Palmer's abject failure in thier expansion seasons. I wouldn't expect the same thing to happen again. I would consider him.

Eh, it's a minor detail. Trent Green said Butch was at training camp as a guest, though, so this quote still applies:Kinda like Vermeil did in 2000.

When I first heard about Davis yesterday, I was totally disgusted. However, from what I could gather, Davis did pretty well in Cleveland until the cap forced him to cut some vets. He and the leadership there didn't manage the cap very well. He won't have that responsibility in KC.

Before that he finished 2nd in the nation with the University of Miami going 11-1.

Before that he spent time alot of time with Jimmy Johnson as his D-Coordinator and D-Line coach in Dallas, at the Univ of Miami, and at Oklahoma State. We need help at D-Line coaching so that may be a good fit.

Williams also didnt have any talent in buffalo. he has some in washington and look at his success. plus, hes defensive minded, something we need, and motivates his players well, similar to dick vermeil. regardless, i think we need a defensive minded coach to switch things up a little bit.

Bullshit. He had talent in Buffalo. Bledsoe was a 4000 yard QB in 2002, he had decent WRs in Moulds and Price. An 1000 yard rusher in Travis Henry and then his third offseason there they brought in a lot of talent on defense, guys like Takeo Spikes, Jeff Posey, London Fletcher, Sam Adams, Lawyer Malloy and that third season his team totally collapsed and went 6-10.

Gregg Williams was a complete failure in Buffalo, and it wasn't because he didn't have the talent... he did a miserable job.

Those people who are quick to bash Butch Davis and kiss Gregg Williams ass forget the fact Butch Davis actually took the Browns to the playoffs (which is amazing considering how pathetic that franchise is), which is something Gregg Williams failed to do in Buffalo.

Butch Davis wouldn't be my choice to be the Chiefs next HC, but I'd rather have him compared to Gregg Williams.

There is no clear cut choice. Every option has had their flaws exposed.

It would really have to come down to the interview and the plan that each candidate presents.

From what I've read today 75% of this board is going to hate whoever gets the job.

I agree, hell I don't even know who in the hell I really want!I'm with ya. This has me leaning towards Saunders for now but I seriously doubt that he'll get the job.

I've heard a lot of the cases against and for the current front runners and all of them sound like the same person to me.

I'm hoping that there's an unknown dark horse that will present themselves at the last minute.

Butch Davis' coaching record= 24-35, 1 winning season, 1 playoff appearance

Gregg Williams' coaching record= 17-31, 0 winning seasons, 0 playoff appearances

Not sure why anyone would want either one, but if I had to choose one, I'd pick Butch.

You can add in that Buffalo had far more talent than Cleveland did when they were the coaches.

AFC East was arguably a tougher division with Buffalo having to play tough Pats, Jets, and Dolphins teams twice a year. AFC North then still had the pre-Lewis' improvements Bengals, and Pittsburgh wasn't at the level they are now.

Well at least we'd get good draft picks so we could trade down into the second round and stock up on 4th rounders ;)~
