Both conference championship games had a wild card team?

I know 3 on the road in a row is unlikely. But i'm not prepared to bet against carolina. Denver i have more confidence in, but you never know.

Don't forget it's the 40th Anniversary of the Super Bowl,I wouldn't be surprised to see a first, with two wildcard teams facing off.

36 years for the anniversity of the first wild-card team to win a Super Bowl.

It will be cooler if Pitt makes it. Its a playoff year for firsts. A #6 seed goes on the road and wins all three playoff games to get to the Super Bowl.

Having confidence in Denver will not be tolerated on this BB.

Were Jax and Caroline both wildcards the year they both advanced to the championship games in their second or third year in existence?

Guess I was wrong. Looked it up and Carolina had a first round by in the 96 playoffs.

Jacksonville was, Carolina wasn't IIRC.

Under the current 12 team format, as far as I can see, no team has ever won three straight road games to advance to the Super Bowl. Those 96 Jags won the first two road games, then got clobbered in the AFC title game. The wild card teams that have made it all had a home game the first week. That's impossible anymore because of the 4 division thing.

Theoretically, the #5 could host the #6 in the championship game, right?

Id like to see the Panthers in it. Steve Smith is awesome.

Yes, that's true. That's the only way.

And to answer the original question up top, if I read it right, the 1980 season. The Dallas Cowboys were a wild card that made it to the NFC title game and lost to Dick Vermeil's Eagles. And the Oakland Raiders were a wild card team that went all the way and won the Super Bowl. They were the first wild card team to win the Super Bowl.

Yeah. If they both won their first two games (6v3, 6v1, 5v4, 5v2).

I was originally going to Steelers/Seahawks in the SB, but I'm leaning towards wanting to see Steelers/Panthers.
