Ya know sometimes living on an island really blows! :mad:
Wind wise that is.

I head to work Monday, no biggie, come home in a freaken hurricane ( well not really, but it felt like it with gusts up to 100km) only to be stranded home all day Tuesday. :shake:
Wednesday I head to work knowing the "wind is due to come up again", with a clean set of cloths, and a spare set of work whites for a "possible over night stay with a friend of mine and his family.


I just got home about an hour ago. :banghead:

as far as wind strength 100km = 62mph (aprox)
Not "hurricane" but when you consider that the ferry (36 car) has to cross 4 miles of OPEN North Atlantic ocean, yeah, it's bad for us folks living on the island.
The boat can't dock safley in anything over 60km. :banghead:

EDIT: I see that the guest book entries are screened. That's probably a good idea.

EDIT#2: Bell Island was the only place in North America to have seen enemy action in World War II. The pier where 80,000 tons of iron ore was stored for shipping was torpedoed by German U-boats in 1942. At low tide you can see the relics of the 4 ships that were sunk during the attack and on shore stands a memorial to the 69 men who lost their lives.

That's freakin' fascinating. I didn't know that.

In Delaware, we still have submarine lookout towers along the coast that were built in WWII, but I gotta say they never fired torpedoes at us. You islanders are tough!
