I got to drive in the Presidential motorcade yesterday. I drove a 15 passenger van with Representatives Ryun, Moore, and Moran and some Whitehouse staffers. We had to drive to Forbes in Topeka to pick everyone up because the fog kept them from flying helicopters into Manhattan.

On the way to Topeka with escort. Traffic seemed kind of light

It'd be funny if the vehicles were on 24's with spinners. Wouldn't surprise me with the way our government is.

The first picture was by the football practice field on the KSU campus. The second pic was enroute from Manhattan to Topeka. Air Force One landed at Forbes Field, Topeka.

Marine One on the ground. The weather cleared so they were able to bring in the helicopters and fly from the KSU campus back to Topeka.

I live about a mile from the Truman Library. Over the years I've seen motorcades from every president since LBJ.

Got stopped and searched by a secret service guy one time at Gates BBQ because Dan Quayle was coming in for a sandwich.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living that you are in the presidential motorcade. If replying to this will cause me to lose life or limb, please disregard. I am a tax paying citizen who loves america, I didn't mean to be nosey.:)

Do you think they would have gotten the joke if I charged at them dressed in a ninja suit with my paintball gun screaming "infidel pigs"?

After the President left a Secret Service agent was kind enough to leave the Presidential flag on the SUV long enough for me and Trndogirl get a pic.

Good thing you didn't do that, or this post wouldn't have been possible.

Yes. Everyone would have had a good chuckle. The head of the Secret Service detachment probably would have taken you out for a beer in Aggieville afterward.

I'm an attorney. Although I have a background driving in convoys in the Middle East, that's not have I got in on this. Believe it or not, the Secret Service only supplies transportation for the President and his immediate staff. The White House provides transportation for guests and the White House press corps. They usually work with the appropriate state political party to arrange for advance work. Essentially, I was a volunteer. Just one more way the administration is saving your tax dollars.

Good stuff. Last summer when Bush was out campaigning he came through my hometown and they had the everything locked down(as far as roads). But it was cool to see his bus ride by with him standing in the window waving. That was a pretty cool motorcade also.
