Now that football season is coming to an end and NASCAR is about to start I'll be spending many a Sunday afternoon until Summer lounging and watching a rented movie or two.

Personally,I prefer a good psychological thriller,a drama based on a true story or pretty much anything to do with the the mob, gangsters etc. Independent films work well too.

In the past I've gotten some good leads, most notably The United States Of Leeland from Rausch.Anyhow, just trying to get a list together so if you have any suggestions please share.

I'll 2nd that recommendation. But caveat, the movie is mostly slackerish easy-going humor. The kind that elicits a reliable series of glazed, stoned chuckles. The all out gut-busting is saved for the end.

I loved the first 45 minutes of that movie...the indian guy was the best character, IMO.

I thought it ran too long and got somewhat tedious at the end, either that or I was just tired because it was after 1AM when the movie ended.

I recently rented three Korean movies from Netflix:

Oldboy
Tae Guk Gi :Brotherhood of War
Musa the Warrior

All were very excellent. Oldboy is a very deranged flick about a guy that is locked in a room for 15 years with no idea who or why put him in. TGG is about a pair of brothers in the Korean civil war. Well done in the same vein as Saving Private Ryan. Musa the Warrior is about a group of soldiers who are sent to treat with the Ming dynasty. Violence ensues over one of the soldiers falling in love with the Ming princess. Again, extremely good movie that is very pretty to look at, and the action is top-notch.

I can't remember the name, but has anyone seen that movie about the lady who loses her daughter during an airplane flight? I was thinking about renting it. Does anyone recommend it?

It stars that girl who played the FBI agent in that movie about the guy who eats people. She was also in that movie about the room you can't get into and the one where she sat in a big silver ball and got sent to outer space where she saw her dad again.

Thanks.

It is a Brooklyn accent goddamnit.

40 Year Old Virgin, was IMO, laugh out loud funny.

I also recently caught, for the first time, on one of my 398 useless cable channels a Japanese flick (subtitled) The House Of Flying Daggers. A good movie, much like Crouching Tiger.

I have Hotel Rawanda sitting around, but I assume it is depressing as hell.

Oldboy was very messed up but also a damn good movie. I wouldnt reccomend it to everyone but I think you would enjoy it.

The other one that TrickyNicky suggested, Musa the Warrior is well worth checking out. Im suprised it wasn't more popular.

I've got Bound, but haven't watched it yet.

Saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose a couple of weeks ago. Not great, but worth watching. Cinderella Man was great. Fantastic 4 could have been so much more than it was... but it's worth watching just for the 90 minutes of a scantily clad Jessica Alba.

That's incorrect. Rockstar had initially planned a minigame simulating sexual intercourse titled "Hot Coffee" to trigger when you completed the girlfriend sequences in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas." Before retail, they decided against it and blocked the minigame away.

There is no "code" to unlock this. You have to download a hacker's patch from the internet onto your PS2 to unlock this. The only way you can do this is if you look up a long series of numerical code lines to enter into a Game Shark or Action Replay third party cheating peripheral. It's a pretty complex undertaking for the kid under 18 who SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING THIS ANYWAY. Plus, it's barely explicit. The characters are fully clothed. The Sims 2, a multi-million selling PC game has more explicit sexual content, and it's only rated T for Teen. Regardless, the public wasn't supposed to be able to access this, and can only by way of manipulating the game code. Rockstar is getting screwed in the media for something that's next to impossible to do.

And if you want to go through all of that trouble, possibly an hour or two worth of time, to unlock this, one could just look at real porn for free on the internet anyway. This is another case of the media looking for a scapegoat, and parent's too lazy to do their f***ing jobs.

It's interesting though, the city of Los Angeles is suing the manufacturer for illegally hiding porn in their game.

This is one of my favorite movies of the last couple years. The fight scene in the corridor is freaking brilliant. A must see.

Hustle and Flow is also one of my faves. Very underrated and I guess I am not a great judge of acting because I think T. Howard gave a performance that rivaled Charlize in Monster and yet he was the longshot to win the Globe and I don't think he is even nominated for the Oscar.

You can judge acting just fine. Terrence gave one of the 3 best performances of the year, along with Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain and Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote. Joaquin Phoenix was good in Walk the Line, too, but not award winning good.

Terrence Howard should be nominated for Best Actor, and I'd be happy if he won it.

Last month when you guys were discussing "Jarhead" several posters mentioned that "Three Kings" was better. I had a free rental at Blockbuster and checked it out. You guys were right, 3Kings is really good, I might even buy it.

I never saw a Batman movie before, I finally checked out "Batman Begins", it's definitely a keeper. I ended up going back to Blockbuster and buying my used copy for another $6. In surround sound the score was fantastic.

About three weeks ago I rented "Red Eye", it was a good thriller and I would recommend it, but I just rented "Flightplan" last night. Between the two, Flightplan seems more plausible and appears to be a much bigger budget film with regards to the cast, soundtrack and overall production and style. I preferred Flightplan but both are good thrillers.

I caught "Saw" on Cinemax HD last week, for a low budget flick it was one of the best horror films I've seen in quite awhile, although Danny Glover still can't act.

I'm not much into comedies anymore, they all seem kind of stupid. Napolean Dynamite was the first comedy in a few years I thought was really good. At Blockbuster I was asking which was better, "40 Year Old Virgin" or "Wedding Crashers" and a big debate broke out in the store between the staff and the customers. About half liked the other one better. I'm still undecided on which one I'll see next.

My God!! Mr. patteeu. You too!!!

Every single, last, sole, solitary, friggin' DVD I've rented from Blockbuster in the last month has gone south in my DVD player at some point in the movie. You have to take the disc out, wash it with baby shampoo, dry it with a pristine, organically-grown, cotten towelette, and say five Hail Mary's to get it to work.

Then, when you take the damned thing back to Blockbuster and complain, they always say the exact, same thing, "Oh. Oh, really?".

About half liked the other one better. I'm still undecided on which one I'll see next.

Check out BATMAN - Keaton, Nicholson- right now 49cent VHS rental Well worth it Hell just go buy it right now its that good.

Three Kings was on TNT last night :p

I have not seen 40yo Virgin.. but I do Reccomend Wedding Crashers

My God!! Mr. patteeu.

I was just thinking this morning that I need to become a netflix customer too. I haven't heard anyone say they don't like netflix.

Rent Wedding Crashers before 40 Year Old Virgin so that your viewing experience doesn't suffer by comparison.

40 Year Old Virgin >> Wedding Crashers.

It's a good deal, Mr. patteeu. I particularly like the "no late fees" part as it relieves that stress associated with movie renting. Occasionally, they seem to mess up your order, but it's very rare.

It's a very good deal and I can heartily recommend them.

Netflix is awesome. 2nd day delivery here in manhattan. If I return a movie, I'll have the next one on the third day. I haven't had any problems with their service and they have a lot of foreign movies that BB just doesn't carry.

I've been trying to rent Lord of War for over a week, and Constant Gardener for three weeks. Now that Blockbuster did away with the late fees, it seems nobody ever bothers to return movies, so the local store is always out of the hot movies. Very annoying.

Oldboy is a very deranged flick about a guy that is locked in a room for 15 years with no idea who or why put him in.

I watched it tonight and like Miles,I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone, that said it's one I won't be forgetting anytime soon, deranged is a good descprition.

I hought the same thing until I realized the movie was more of a love story than anything else. I wouldn't call it a "spy game" like the cover does. I found the shots they did of the landscape to be quite breathtaking, but in parts this did remind me too much of The fugitive with regards to the flase trials of the new drug, etc. and also the movie with sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, it was about Africa, and the starvation and death and greed, etc. The subtle shots of their relationship was meant to hit you at the end of the flick...I don't know, usually I don't fall for shit like that but this one worked I guess, for me.

Other than that the more I absorb what I watched, the better I find it to be.

Instead of start a new thread thought I'd add this here.I just finished watching a 2004 movie called Freeze Frame. The main character was played by Lee Evans who I found out was in Something About Mary but I'll be damned if I remember his character(s) Tucker/Norman Phipps.

Anyhow,if you like a good puzzle for a movie I highly recommend Freeze Frame, the jist of the story is about a guy played by Evans who was accused of a triple murder and got off.He then proceeds to tape every second of his life from that point on putting the tapes in a vault in case he's ever accused again.

A few days before the 10th anniversary of the triple homicide the police come calling once again.I won't say anymore in case some of you decide to check it out.

Good story,good acting,enjoy.

I've rented lots. I had a 30day trial of blockbuster and kept on for another month now. If i run into scratched discs, I'll be sure to switch to netflix. Blockbuster's instore coupons make it worth it!

Anyway, most recently I rented:

The Interpreter - Meh.
Finding Neverland - Depp once again is fantastic. Bloodly brilliant movie, on the whole.

Oh and I liked Sideways, but it definitely isn't for everyone. Actually, its for a select few people and Im surprised I liked it.

“The Brothers Grimm” was fun. Gilliam’s odd directing and nice performances all around. A fun romp. Certainly worth a rental.

“The Island” was far better than the reviews led me to believe. Sure, it was escapist fluff, but there were some great action set pieces and the story was interesting.

“A Sound of Thunder” was every bit as bad as advertised. I really cannot recommend this movie on any level. Just crap.

Anyone seen Munich?
Just saw it....

It's a long drawn out movie but very well done. Movie itself is more about vengeance than the 1972 Munich Olympic terrorist attack.

'Munich' is, on the whole, a straight forward hit-man movie. The assignments are handed out; the five man team is assembled, each with their own specialty; and they travel about Europe plotting and carrying out their hits. We have the inevitable paranoia, the double agents and suspicious loyalties. So far, so familiar. Only 'Munich' is wrapped in the thin veneer of 'history' and 'fact', and mob bosses and corporate espionage is replaced with Middle Eastern politics and Israeli-Arab relations. I mention this because the politics of 'Munich' are really nothing more than a topical plot devise, used the same way as cold-war relations and soviet villainy was used thirty years ago. Eric Bana steals the movie.

Thanks, I am watching it tonight.

Two I just rented were Aeon Flux and Waiting.

I like both, I could see how people hate Aeon, but if you are a comic book fan, it's cool to watch. Not a bad story...I hated the MTV cartoon.

Waiting is hilarious, especially the "war" they have in the kitchen (batwing) ROFL
